It's called insanity for a reason.

I really want to see someone complain about Doom's Nightmare difficulty.

Most people complain about the game being too easy.

Then don't play it, fool.

I finished on Insanity. It was easy.

You must suck.

I'd personally guess that it is frustration at being unable to pick up the final achievement the game has left, rather than actually yelling at the difficulty itself. That would seem to be the primary reason to bang your head against the wall about a particular difficulty rather than lowering it to an easier one.

Well said.

In laymans terms. If you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. Don't expect the fire to cool down just because your ego was bruised.

That's part of the fun, it makes it 10x better when you see the achievement pop up if it was an actual challenge (I swore a couple times in happiness when I got it). And even then it doesn't exuse the amount of whining in the OP.

I played through the first time on "Normal", then jumped straight to Insanity for my second run.  I thought it was impossible at first too, but I stuck with it and learned a lot.

You really need to use your different ammo types and debuff abilities like Warp and Overload.  Nearly everything in the game (even Varren!) has armor, so invest early in Incendiary ammo and incinerate.  For the Blue Suns, Heavy Mechs and Asari you'll face (which all have shields), you need someone in your party with Warp, Warp ammo or Disruptor ammo.  Many collectors use Barrier.   Play as a soldier and get used to switching ammo types on the fly during a battle instead of just picking one at the beginning of the mission.  I also recommend turing Squad Power usage OFF in the option menu- that way when you need a teammate's power, they aren't ever in cooldown unless you told them use something.  In that panic situation, you always have the ability to have one of them toss out a pull or Concussive shot to save you.

Most of my battles went down like this:  Incendiary ammo ON, shoot armor while having teammate cast incinerate.  Once armor drops, have teammate use pull, followed by more shooting from me and a Reave or Throw from other teammate.  For people with Shields I switched to Disruptor ammo while my Tech used Overload, then went back to the previous config when the shield dropped.  You can also just reverse the tactics if you'd rather play the Adept, and bring a team of Soldiers like Zaeed and Jacob or Grunt.

Bottom line is that Insanity really forces you to learn which ammo and bitocs counter which defense.  Incendiary ammo/Incinerate beats armor/health, Warp/Warp ammo beats Barrier, and Overload/Disruptor ammo beats Shields.  Lots of switching during the battle, and (most importantly), the right team for the right mission.  If you take techs on the Colony invasion mission where you fight nothing but Husks and Collectors (Barriers and Armor) then you're hosed.  Know your enemies defenses and take the people who can counter them.

So you're complaining that the hardest difficulty is too hard, but not praising Bioware for creating FIVE different settings(probably in an attempt to avoid people complaining about the difficulty). If you can't beat it, don't play it, or, do what I did, Veteran(gets you used to game mechanics)->Hardcore(gets you used to dying REALLY quickly, makes you play smart)->Insanity(THE TEST). The game really isn't all that hard, I found Gears of War on the second hardest difficulty as hard as Mass Effect 2 on insanity.

I think Insanity is a great challenge, hardcore was really easy for me, but this play through I am having to take my time advance slowly and think about what i am gonna do before I just run into the next room that I know is full of juiced up mobs.

Lol, I tried that game, beat the first area then considered it not worth it. I'm hoping to avoid high blood pressure until I'm at least 40.

I can relate with the OP's frustration but for different reasons. For me, insanity really breaks immersion. When even a LOKI mech can take an entire clip from an AR in the head and not die, it really kills atmosphere for me.

I still, want to beat it though as I feel that it is something that I must do as an ME fan.

Playing on insanity requires you do everything right, not make mistakes and maximizing the effectiveness of the class, weapons, powers, and team mates. If you're finding it really hair-pulling frustrating it's likely because there's a lot you can improve on. (Though I think vanguard and adept may have a harder time than other classes, can someone confirm this?)

Haha... this seems to be a "venting" thread. There are some people that just have more knowledge about videogames, and how to beat them, then others. It's really just about finding a strategy that works for what class you have and your 2 henchmen teammates. Rather than becoming upset due to frustration channel that into "ok I lost... now what can I do to change the outcome". Insanity, much like it's name suggests, is suppose to be insane! But once you get some key basic strategies down for your class and party make-up it becomes easy. Personally I would like another difficulty level to be added so I'm forced to adapt even more and test my mental fortitude as a mass effect player.

Stick in there big guy... it'll come with time. Just don't let your frustration impair your mental capacity.

dont dare bash bioware for trying to give a challenging option in gameplay

yeah don't dare criticize them for doing something poorly. :P:P

once you get past the derelict collector ship it's all downhill. i managed to beat it as an adept in 29 hours with everyone loyal and surviving. but yeah, it was a bad idea on their part to make the idea. forcing you to use a cover system by drastically reducing your shields.

Yes, Insanity is hard --and it takes a change in strategy-- but it is supposed to be hard! I loved the Insanity setting. It was a whole new experience for my second playthrough. Now I can't even play on Hardcore, it feels too easy....so I'm playing Vanguard on Insanity to see if I can do it.

Don't take dying personally on Insanity- just learn from it. lol

It's called insanity difficulty, not impossible difficulty. It's tough, it'll challenge you, and for many it'll be incredibly enjoyable in the process. I'm certainly loving my insanity run, but I've gone through on Vet and HC already so I've been building up to the difficulty just as I did in ME1.

Beyond the l2play and QQ advice...a more sensible position I'd take is this, if you're not enjoying it, stop playing at that difficulty. As I said, many are enjoying the challenge, but if you're bashing your head into a wall it's simply not worth it. Achievement aside, it's a matter of personal enjoyment first and foremost playing at that difficulty, and if you aren't prepared, just play some more at lower difficulties until you feel ready to give it another shot.

Insanity is all about being able to assess the combat scenarios, your squads responsibilities, and what skills you need to tackle each objective. All it takes is practice, persistence, and above all, a level head.

Insanity isn't really all that hard it just requires you to use the correct skills for the situation instead of just blasting through everything like a soldier on normal difficulty.

And aside from that "Insanity" is not for people who want to win. Its for people who want to get frustrated and find the status quo (aka the difficulty levels designed for players with speshul needs like) less than frustrating.

Insanity isn't played. It's navigated. You need to be familiar with every encounter--where the enemies are going to come from, the best places to set your allies up, etc--or expect to have to play some encounters several times in order to figure out what to do. Beyond that it's simply a matter of abusing AI and tactics, and picking a class and build suited to do so.
