the only way to win this mode is to cheat and shoulder. if you were to play legitimately then yeah it's not possible, but if you shoulder every enemy it's quite easy.

I'll bite... what do you mean by "shoulder"?

"Shouldering" is a common tactic in 3rd-person shooters that takes advantage of the fact that your bullets come from the camera over your character's shoulder rather than the character itself.  Basically, if you press your character right up to the edge of a wall so that your targeting reticule is barely looking around the corner, you can shoot enemies even though your character is completely protected from damage.  Generally considered a pretty cheap tactic, especially in a multiplayer game.

IMO, shouldering in this game isn't worth the hassle except against the big mechs.  Easier and more effective to sit behind cover and spam your squad's biotics. :)

I think the keyword here is INSANITY. Its beatable... alot easier on certain classes than others many people done it, so theres really no need to complain. Just take it slow pause alot and look around make sure to take out enemies that are trying to flank you first,  and don't be like me and punch krogans while they're still standing.

Whichever BioWare developer decided to make Insanity THIS F***KING difficult needs to be kicked in the daddy bags.

The game is not fun at this difficulty... at all. In fact it's downright aggravating. I played my first go through on Veteran and I thought it was a good challenge, I enjoyed it. But Insanity is simple ridiculous and sucks all the fun out of the game completely.

Enemies swarm you much too fast, cooldowns are too slow, and the G*ddamn Krogan and Vorcha with their regeneration are just a nightmare.

I got through recruiting four members of the team, but I'm going to stop now, because dying 25 times in every single combat is no longer fun, it's tedious, frustrating, and totally unnecessary.

Congratulations BioWare, you just succeeded in making me not want to play your game anymore. Well done.

Now the fanbois may take over the thread to brag about how they beat insanity without ever dying on a broken controller with one hand...

Well, its supposed to be hard. On insanity, you have to be tactical and select teammates based on their abilites and you have to be extremely tactical and patient. Its very hard but it will be a sweet feeling when you finally get that achievement.

dont flame this guy i know what he is going through

im on my Insanity run as a sentinel and it is "doable" but very very very tough.  It will most likely take weeks to beat it on insanity, but im running out of patience so i might just go play dante's inferno

I agree. I hope I didn't come across as flaming. I spent 2 hours on freakin Purgatory with my Vanguard on insanity. I know its crazy tough. It makes you focus more on your squadmates and tactical abilities.

Would you like a tip? Miranda has warp and overload (good for nearly every level in the game), Mordin is helpful with incinerate, and Grunt is fantastic with his super health.

For my vanguard, I use Miranda and Mordin or Miranda and Grunt. Samara can be extremely helpful as well. The biggest thing is patience. I have had moments where I want to throw my controller through the wall. You gotta be patient and try out different tactical positions. I have found that helps a lot.

I dont know what all the fuss is about, especially from people talking about biotics. I had very little problems on insanity with my vanguard. My only problems were the collector ship and my squad trying to play the hero and running out in the open. The way to beat spamming enemies is to keep moving forward. If you stay back they keep spamming. I hardly used my biotics as "only" finishers. I used charge even when defenses was up because with the right weapon, I was able to take down defenses and health on that one charge. I also always constantly charged scions which was how I beat their shockwave. I also used my shockwave against enemies(even with defenses) who were behind cover to stumble them so they are open for he shot. Also on insanity I found that even though defenses may be down that doesnt mean they are easy to finish which I put one point into pull. Pull them out of cover and they fall into a void or lifted for a couple seconds. Even if you miss them while they are in the air when they fall it still takes them a few seconds to get back up so be dirty and shoot them while they are down

It is interesting to me that a topic like this can be started when there are so many videos online of people showing successful strategies on insanity level encounters. I don't play on insanity, because I'm pretty casual. I find veteran to be sufficient to hold my interest while allowing me to bring whoever I feel like bringing and not have to replay any fights. Even so, I've seen and read enough videos and discussions that it is very clear to me that insanity is a long, long way from impossible.

Currently I'm stuck on Omega trying to get through the krogan and Vorcha in an effort to help Mordin cure the plague. I just can't get past that last wave but I'm sure it'll happen. I just need to get in the groove or something. For the record, I'm playinga lvl 30 engineer with armor piercing rds as my bonus skill. I brought Miranda and Zaeed though I'm thinking I should've brought Jacob so i can use his biotics but I'll try to make do.

Without sounding rude, I completely disagree. I found Mass Effect 2 on insanity to be one of the easiest "highest difficulties" I've played in a long time. I basically breezed through every fight without a hitch. I was surprised by the number of topics and such (at GameFaqs) where people are asking help on the "Collector Ship." The first thing I thought was: "The first time or second time? Because both were incredibly easy."

That is a lie and a half lol ;P i see you play DA:O and that set to the highest difficultie is about 100 times easyer than ME2 on insanity!^_^

And ME2 on insanity is great fun

Oh god... I laughed so hard.

Anyway, come on Op... the highest difficulty is stupidly hard for a reason... its the hardest difficulty! Thats like complaining that a chair is a chair...

I have never played past normal difficulty, even though I know I could handle the higher ones. Why? Because I'm not playing this game to prove something... I'm playing it to have fun.

It's not impossible. Many players have already done it for the achievement. It's not meant to be a "fun" setting. It's meant to be a "challenge" setting. Most people will do it once for the badge and then lower the setting, I've done the same thing myself.

That being said, it's pretty sad to see some of the posts in this thread. There's a lot of very angry, lonely, venomous people out there on the internetz. Flaming someone because you can do it anonymously is not the bravest thing you can do and makes you all look quite the fools. Grow up.

There are some people that actually took the time to make posts with very good information that will really help you play through insanity. Cheers to them. Take the advice and don't give up.

For my helpful hints; on missions with mech enemies take Garrus/Miranda with max overload/max warp, on missions with mercs take Garrus/Miranda with max overload/max warp, on missions with collectors take Grunt/Miranda with max incendiary ammo/max warp. For yourself I suggest max Armor Piercing ammo because it gives the most damage and is effective against both health/armor. Overload and Warp for shields and barriers respectively. And take Bioware's advice to kill charging enemies first and enemies behind cover last.

The rest of the game is patience, tactics, and timing. Nothing you can't handle.

good thing there's four easier difficulties for you to choose from. as for it being impossible to complete? you're incorrect

now even though i am a fan of bioware games i'm pretty sure all of my counterarguments were objective enough to trump your initial claims

I'm playing insanity as an Infiltrator and it's not to bad, you just have to keep an eye on your squad and use them intelligently and go for the head shots.

Bro... its called 'insanity'... I play on normal, sure its not very challenging, but the gameplay is fun and I hate replaying parts as it breaks the flow of the story for me. I may crank it up down the road, but I am not trying flex my gamer muscle and beat insanity... f*** it

I think alot of people are missing the point, Insanity in ME2 is like Legendary in Halo 2, it's really difficult and cheap for all the wrong reasons.

Insanity Mode is most certainly not impossible. Especially if you don't do a NG+ playthrough. My Vanguard did do a NG+ playthrough because at the time I didn't know the difference.

Mordin's mission is certainly challenging (as are the Vorcha in Archangel's tunnels), once through that the only roadblock are the dual Scions on Horizon. Once past them the rest of the game isn't much harder than Normal (assuming you've brought the correct party; Miranda for anything except Husks, Mordin and Grunt against Husks)... it just takes longer to kill things.

Notable exception being the first fight on the Flotilla. Having Geth Hunters running up next to you is fairly deadly.

Turn down the difficulty...

That not an option for those that need the achievement.

Oh people NEED the achievement do they? I think the argument against that is that by earning this, you have "achieved" something. And while it's nice to have some easy ones, or achievements that offer up a new style of play, I would always prefer a few challenging one's that shows my skill level over a 10 yr old on casual.

Which this guy obvoiusly is.

I just completed my insanity run last night with an infiltrator so I'll add some more tips and also highlight some other posters points (sorry if I'm not quoting directly):

-As has been said before tailor your squad to the encounters you are going to face in the mission. Characters like Miranda (Warp/Overload/Squad buffs) are godsends.

-Know the enemies you are going to face. It seems like each mob has a different A.I. so that I knew I would have an easier time with Blue Suns (defensive mob) than against collectors (aggressive, Harbinger will flank and spam the player while trash keeps you pinned). I was afraid of husks prior to facing them because they are suicidally aggressive, however they are also very stupid.

-Maybe it was because I was an infiltrator but I found kiting to be a very useful tactic. Storm back and forth across the battlefields taking shots here and there. This was most useful against husks when combined with incinerate or against geth who pursue slowly.

-The Cain is your friend, if you have reached a wall regardless of what you do use this thing, it will clear the room (for me this happened both on legions mission and the one part of the swarm scene in the collector base).

Then don't play it, fool.

I finished on Insanity. It was easy.

You must suck.

See, and you wonder why people get mad.  Rather than make generalizing topics, why not try to offer actual advice to the OP?  I mean, I'm in the same boat.  In ME1, I made the mistake of going from Normal straight to Hardcore and barely survived the game.

ME2's difficulty is compounded by the presence of several missions which are time sensitive, not to mention the fact the game discourages you from using your level 30 in an NG+ on any difficulty higher than Veteran.

Also, you imply that anyone who can't handle Insanity must suck.  Or, as I've seen other posters do, imply that anyone who can't do it on Hardcore/Insanity has no skill.  I did an entire topic about the fact I feel bad that I feel Hardcore/Insanity would be too much for me to handle.  I'd like to get the achievement, but with even Veteran giving me grief early on (Archangel Recruitment mission was hell in a handbasket), I only felt worse and worse.

Admittedly the OP is venting in a public forum, and thus should expect people to respond.  But shouldn't you folks who apparently live and breathe daily Insanity runs perhaps be a bit more respectful and maybe try to help us Normal/Vet folks who want to try some guidance or advice?
