"Shouldering" is a common tactic in 3rd-person shooters that takes advantage of the fact that your bullets come from the camera over your character's shoulder rather than the character itself. Basically, if you press your character right up to the edge of a wall so that your targeting reticule is barely looking around the corner, you can shoot enemies even though your character is completely protected from damage. IMO, shouldering in this game isn't worth the hassle except against the big mechs. Easier and more effective to sit behind cover and spam your squad's biotics.
