I hate people that use the phrase 'I'm sorry, but ...'

You're obviously not sorry. You're not fooling anyone.

The easiest way to finish the insanity is with team specialists and knowing what the enemy is for every mission (Geth, organics, or biotics). Since Miranda is the best well rounded, you just need to compliment her attacks. Right shift should be your best friend and nothing can beat 3 powers targeted at the same enemy. For example, Miranda blows the shield off the geth, you hammer it with cloaked sniper shot, and whoever finishes it off with AI hacking or throw.

You need a strategy to take down barriers, shields, and armor quickly in every mission. Thane and Miranda excel at knocking at barriers (Horizon, Turian Reaper vessel and suicide mission), Garrus and Miranda overload works great at shields, Mordin incinerate great on armor and regen. Don't waste ammo on unprotected enemies (throw, shockwave, slam, pull, incinerate) work well to one hit the enemy. Don't bring down the Praetorian, just draw aggro, keep your shields up, and your henchmen will eventually take it down. Learn the best combo's (double heavy warp and incinerate) (double overload, slam/pull/sniper shot) and for Krogan (incinerate, pull, throw/slam) .

Here is the really simple insanity guide 1. (PC excels at attacking armor) 2. use Miranda, Garrus for taking out shields, 3. Thane and Miranda warp for collector battles 4. use Slam and Pull or Concussion shot on unprotected enemies to finish them off.

I gotta admit after starting an Insanity playthrough I completely lost interest in playing the game.

DA:O was much more fun on higher difficulties.

It's not even that it's too hard... it's just not fun to sit in cover so much and being forced to spam Incinerate/Overload (I'm an Engineer) on even the most basic enemies.

I enjoy the additional layer of tactical depth provided by the increased armour/shields but I hate the lethality and the fact that my shields go down like paper.

That's basically how I feel about it.  It isn't more difficult so much as it's more time-consuming, without any margin for error.  I guess part of my problem is that I really don't have the patience for long fights.

I get the rush of adrenaline that people talk about after finishing stuff on insanity, I've felt it a few times myself, but for me there isn't really anything that makes the game any more fun than it was on less difficult settings.

I beat the game on Veteran, and put it on Hardcore for the 2nd try. I want to fix some mistakes I did on my first playthought and use the new one for ME3.

Besides, I want to enjoy the game, not getting frustrated. I got a nice level of difficulty on Veteran, and Hardcore offers me a balanced challenge to take. I suggest you to do the same.

Or Contra 2. I still nominate that as the hardest game ever.

biggest problem on insanity is the non story missions...infinite spawns and limited ammo are a bad combo

I beat Insanity with a broken controller, a broken Xbox, no hands, I just smashed my face on the disk until I won.

You had to smash your face on the disk?
Haha! I beat it just by looking at it.

my first playthrough was on insanity not sure if it was unlocked because i imported a char or if they never had a lock on it in the first place for the most part i was only really frustrated on one fight and that was doing the archangel recruiting quest at one point theres an L shaped corridor with 2 low walls that you have to climb over on eithar side of the corridor

theres a pyro around the corner behind the low wall and he starts to shoot you the moment you jump over the wall hes around the corner so you cant use any powers on him and he kills you if you jump over. it took me like 30 tries to get past him

Is it mostly the RPG purists having a hard time? I certainly a lot of RPGs, but I also play a lot of shooters, and this was about on par with what I expect of the hard difficulty in shooters for the past few years. It definitely feels fair, as opposed to, say, Insane on Gears of War. Alternatively, I found Dragon Age to be damned hard even on medium, though this could have something to do with playing it on Xbox.

Hardly impossible - I just got the achievement for beating it on Insanity about three hours ago. The most important part is, as others have said, picking good squadmates for each mission and using them intelligently. Don't expect to steamroll through all the missions with the same squad like you could in Normal or Veteran - if you can't strip your opponent's protections and kill them quickly, they'll overwhelm you through sheer numbers and resilience.

Insanity is easy, except for the fing overpowered Scions. The Scion version of the Vanguard power should function exactly as it does for Vanguards, which is to do almost no damage unless all shields and biotic barriers are completely down at which point it knocks you off your feet and does minimal damage. Making the Scion version take down shields in one attack is completely unfair.

Just make sure you're in cover when fighting them.....not just behind cover to break line of sight, but "hit the cover button and hugging the crate/wall/whatever" ..... if you are the Scion attack does not hit you. The way to kill them is to shoot for a sec hide and wait for the shockwave to go past, shoot for a sec, repeat.

If you're fighting husks + scions, just bring along the Firestorm heavy weapon, find cover and flame the heck away when husks get to ya. Then you can take care of the scions on your own time. Luckily you can get that Weapon as soon as you want to after Freedom's Progress.

I've found that the best way to kill scions and praetorians is to get them alone and then just dash around them in a circle, dodging their lasers while periodically taking potshots at them. Adrenaline rush helps, if you're a soldier.

I see a lot of people complaining about the scions, but I thought they were some of the easiest enemies on insanity. Basically they stand still and let you shoot them. Headshot + Widow + AP rounds absolutley murdered them.

I beat it on Insanity and I'll probably never play on that difficulty again. It was very hard in the beginning, but after upgrades to my tech and to my powers, it got really easy. I breezed through the Collector's base and the final boss and everything.

But it wasn't really fun. I was just doing it to do it and to see what it was like. Once I beat it on Insanity, I started a game on Veteran and I am a god. I am literally just standing there, out of cover, shooting enemies dead. It's kind of funny. I may have to up the difficulty to Hardcore or something.

But, yeah, there's no shame in not being able to play Insanity. It takes determination to get through the first half of the game and some people can't/don't want to give that kind of commitment to a video game. That's understandable, but it's not really fair to complain about your ineptitudes.

Currently I'm stuck on Omega trying to get through the krogan and Vorcha in an effort to help Mordin cure the plague. I just can't get past that last wave but I'm sure it'll happen. I just need to get in the groove or something. For the record, I'm playinga lvl 30 engineer with armor piercing rds as my bonus skill. I brought Miranda and Zaeed though I'm thinking I should've brought Jacob so i can use his biotics but I'll try to make do.

For those having the same trouble as I was on this part, Jacob was the key.  incendiary ammo to keep the Korgan and vorcha from regenerating and his biotics made it tons easier.  Zaeed and his concussive shot was also very helpful against charging krogan.  Still died a couple times but it was no where near the hasle it was without Jacob.

In normal difficulty it's a lot easier to bring whoever you want and power through the mission even if your squads skills aren't ideal for the enemies you face but on insanity, I'm going to say it's a must if  you want to avoid getting frustrated.

Up next is recruiting Garrus so it's going to be Miranda with her Overload and Warp skill and Mordin with his incinerate.  Sabotagingthe big mech and the gunship also a must... plus it's just fun to watch.

I got the basic sniper rifles for my engineer on the Collector ship.  I hope I can upgrade to the Widow on my insanity play through when i get to that part again.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their constructive and unconstructive criticism alike, lol. I finally got past Insanity today and finished the game. It got a little better as I went along and was able to get more upgrades. I re-speced and took Barrier as my special ability and that helped immensely.

Glad I could bring a lively discussion to this forum! Thanks again!
