First people whine about the game mechanics, and then you have the people whining about the people whining at game mechanics. Now we are at the "people whining about the peopled who whined about the original whiners, who wined about game mechanics" phase.

I like this phase the best. :-D

This forum has nothing on the WoW fanbase.

Yeah really.

Though to be fair, the ultimate whinefest is definitely on the Star Wars Galaxy forums.

^^ This.  I think it is just the nature of gamers.  I know there have been a lot of threads basically saying "This game is broke, I'm never buying another Bioware game again", but if you do actually look there are some very well structured and very Constructive critiques of the game. (you just have to shift through the dross).

If you really think these forums are bad then I challenge you to go to the SI games forums when they have just released a new version of Football Manager.  Some of the whingers there are professional at it and create the same threads year in years out.  All because due to the feedback they got on the previous FM they made some changes.  It was even worse when they went to a 3d match engine view.

Any way slight rant over.

I concur, definitely. These forums are actually some of the best I've ever seen.

Sometimes the feedback is constructive, but regardless, the community here is actually pretty respectful, and can certainly type far better than the typical groups of random people on most other forums I've been to.

Far better than, say, the Infinity Ward forums.

The other forums I go to, for games like Natural Selection or Project Reality (a BF2 mod), the communities are great, because they're built around an independent developer (in the case of Natural Selection 2) or a skilled, dedicated mod team that exists entirely because of the support of the community (in the case of Project Reality, which even though it is a shooter, is HEAVILY tactical and has the best community I've ever seen in any game).

These forums are, of course, different because they're built around BioWare, but still. Good community, not too bad on the whining front. No worse than the mean, at least.

Wow, Tuesday must be THAT day of the month. Everyone's been really pissy with these troll threads today.

But yes, in truth, I agree. The game is great even if the rpg aspects did take a bit of a back seat. The game is fantastic, that's all I'm really interested in..

Fact! Haha...I loved that game, as soon as Jump to Lightspeed came out, I had a blast. A shame I have a mac now, I'm in the mood for some good old fashion SWG RP again.

Yes. All video game fans whine and complain because they value the quality of the experience or franchise. Because they value the franchise, they feel entitled to make suggestions or demands of the developers on how to make the game.

i support all constructive criticism, but most whining is just worthless.

The whiners that post in these forums are the vast minority. They are just the over-zealous haters that need to stop talking.

This. The people here probably wouldn't even make up 5% of the game's entire fanbase if you added them altogether - including the lurkers who never even bother registering.

These forums are generally void of the trolling and retardation compared to others but the majority of the people "whining" as the OP so elegantly put it are avid gamers with expectations that companies like Bioware move forward and innovate rather than sell out to a larger parent company and stagnate in order to ensure that 2% per quarter growth projection.

Yes that's why you blatently have to state your opinion everywhere because the company tried it's best at doing this. Bioware tried catering to us, and apparently your ego was bruised and all your spewing is "FAIL FAIL FAIL"

Honestly if you feel like you could do better go right ahead, no one's stopping you. Go right ahead and code the Unreal3 Engine all by yourself to function with a sci-fi game. Once you do so expect GREAT reviews because it was your work. That's what you deserve right?

Well that's still not the acceptable amount of whine-lessness.  :)

Kids on the internet complain.  It's their outlet, and there's certainly going to be a bias towards whiney, often irrational feedback because the medium does not easily foster any other kind.  Positive feedback is often not volunteered because there often isn't enough of an unresolved internal conflict for that opinion to be readily shared with others.  Those without feedback (obviously) don't post.  That leaves the disgruntled and the deranged left to fill the void, and skew any statistical measure you take of the population based on this venue.

That's life.  There's really nothing to be done with it and I'm sure that the fine folks at Bioware are smart enough to weed out the worst of it and take what's left in the appropriate context.  So (speaking generally), don't worry and just enjoy the game as you see fit.

I must make this statement. That forums are a haven of people who try to get attention by crying. Usually why I stay away from most forums.

I find that if I want to have a lively and intelligent discussion of the game, I actually will go start a thread on /v rather than come here.

It's frankly insane that you get fewer people over there decrying Mass Effect 2 as an awful game than over here. /v ****es about EVERY game, but for some reason Mass Effect 2 is pretty much universally loved over there (at the moment)

Its because people here have the tendancy to whine because games are seriousbusiness. They also try this in real life with their moms about the state of their basements.

Mr. mobius,
Can you imagine all the whining that would go on IF life was fair and people got what they deserved?

Yes.

That's why I don't play RPGs, I play games. Games are fun. Mass Effect is fun. Mass Effect 2 is fun. That's the bottom line, I don't nitpick changes.

Even worse, especially for multiplayer FPS games.

Been that way since, well...  Doom.  Yes, I'm dating myself.  ;)

Wasn't on the internet though.  BBS systems.

Doom 2 opened the door to the first "LAN parties" though and all the trolling was in real time where you could throw stuff back and forth.  Good times.

Shadowwolf_kell do you remember the origional "DOOM" or "ZORK" the true RPG's what I mean by those were text only. Now those were the days when you had to use your..... what is that word.....ahh...oh ya IMAGINATION.

Some fool once postulated that a million monkeys slamming on typewriters could produce the entire works of Shakespeare. The Internet has proved otherwise.

Yes I do.  I loved Infocom games.  Deadline had me enthralled for quite while.

Their packaging was superb too.

whining? maybe to you. These are forums wher people can express their thoughts and share ideas. Whining isnt going to get you nowher, but discussing the game with fellow gamers on a forums that the devs looks like might go somewher.

I played the game and am just sharing what i thought worked and didnt....its just an opinion in the end? why are you whining about me and other pople sharing their thoughts???

Whining is where you only talk about negatives, and say stuff like "THEY SHOULD HAVE LISTENED" and draw it out like that.

Sharing your thoughts is where you say there are negatives, but do the mature thing like swallow your pride and ego and actually say good things about the game
