The only reason this is true is a woman's lack of upper body strength.

Three things to take into consideration:
1: Powered Armor
2: Genetic Modification
3: Cybernetics

Femshep is a genetically augmented cyborg in power armor.  Don't try to tell me she can't perform the duties of an elite infantryman.  Thats just silly.

It's not silly. A woman can't perform the duties of an elite infantryman.

I was in the Navy, and I was trained by Navy Seals. We had an obstacle course. One woman happened to be training with our group of men. The men had to climb a 12 foot wall, and the woman had to climb the 8 foot wall.

My point is that women are vastly inferior to men in combat. It's not a bad thing. It is simple and obvious truth that no scientist can deny.

On the other hand science says that women are more easily able to divide their attention between multiple tasks, or targets, making them more capable at tracking multiple opponents--much more important in modern combat than dead lifts or obstacle courses.  Further science says that women have a much higher pain tolerance than men, capable of shrugging off what, to a man, would be completely debilitating pain.  Again, more important in modern combat than muscle mass or strength.

Further, gender differences in men and women in strength, speed, etc. all fall significantly with proper training.  One study showed a 'very significant' decrease in the differences between genders with a mere 8-week special training regime given to members of both genders.

Not only that, but beyond the lack of muscle mass dictated by sex hormones, it's actually impossible to know how much of the femal 'inferiority' is actually related to gender in a real physical sense, as opposed to a sociological sense.  Obviously ballerinas are going to be a bit weaker than linebackers, my friend, regardless of gender.

But even with all this, Audie Murphy was, emphatically, weaker, slower, and had less endurance than your average woman.

He also kicked more ass than God.

You, sir, have no idea what you are talking about.

I would just love it, love it, love it, if my femshep not look like a freaking linebacker. I'm not asking for stripper clothes, but some femininity would be much obliged.

People keep thinking of armor in terms of our modern historical context, with big bulky plates and heavy materials. To me, it seems to make a hell of a lot more sense in the futuristic setting of ME to have a form-fitting, flexible material that isn't made up of bulky plates. In this setting, bodysuits that keep out the environment make the most sense, and shoulder plates and such need be only reserved for the heaviest type of troops.

Light armor in ME should indeed be like a wet suit, but instead of keeping out water, it is primarily for protection against hostile environments. And you don't need to look like a ridiculous linebacker to achieve that.

The biggest difference is in terms of upper body strength.  They also run slower and for shorter durations, though the difference is less pronounced.  I am well aware than no unaugmented woman can perform those duties.  I am in fact adamantly against having seperate standards for men and women.  If they can't hack it, then tough ****.

My point was that once you start down the transhumanist path, all those disadvantages evaporate.  Extensive gene therapy, cybernetic augmentation and a powered exoskeleton would totally erase any physical performance differences.  After that, it would all be in the head.

If you're going to tell me that a woman can't be a soldier because of her brain, I'd have to call bs.
