Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2

I just finished part one for the first time two days ago and started part two yesterday. Although its been just a "more-than-24h" brake I could feel my heart race faster while watching the intro-cut-scene and seeing the Normandy and her crew in a new adventure.

Here are some of my first impressions...
  • Cut scenes are breath-taking, visuals great, but they are not that great, that they would undermine the visuals of the first.
  • I actually felt like Miranda was looking sweeter in the promo material, but she is still hawt.
  • The 8 available free DLCs worked instantly.
  • The new control scheme requires getting used to after the first one... but I hope it will turn out to be positive.
  • Importing the save game is for RPGs... like going from pixel-graphic to polygon graphic for space simulations (Wing Comander -> X-Wing), this is a feature that should be in any RPG-seequel/threequel game from now on!
  • The new Normandy is great, it was sad to see the ol'girl go down, but the elevator system is much better now on board... and man... Shep gets finally captains quarters... it's about time for this!
  • The skills system -> I am still confused about this one... didn't had the time to get into these mechanics...
  • I do miss the MAKO... Bioware... gimme the Hammerhead vehicle... I wanna go explore planets old-school-style (with more than 3 map styles)
  • Seeing the raising quality in DLC's (Dragon Age Awakening) my hopes are high on some big expansions for this game... ones that would justify raising the level cap to 60!
  • The fact, that pressing the "WINDOWS-BUTTON" doesnt couse the game to crash is like a miracle! Now I can leave the game without REALLY leaving it... the first one was a nightmare on this.
So... here you are.... my FIRST impressions I am getting ready to write a review for both games soon.

Hi there, second day of gaming and some Second impressions:
  • Galaxy map/Travel - I definitely prefer the way they handled it the first time around. What do I have a pilot for, If I have to maneuver this ship through the galaxy... and the controls of this ship are lousy! I mean trying to get the "dock" or "land" option can get frustrating...
  • No numerical stats for equipment. Am I to choose load-out on the base of the description of the weapon? Instead of a numerical system, now I have to check is this an accurate weapon, the most accurate weapon or the uber most accurate one...
  • The graphics are still great, the afterlife club is cool... but somehow not enough going on there... actually I think, that what makes this game superior in visuals are not really the graphics, but the richness of the locations... and of course better animated characters... It is great, that when you see people in the social rooms, that they move and talk... instead of those ME1 statues...
  • the Miranda - Uncanny valey debate - The thing that makes some characters weird in ME 1 & 2, especially Mirande, is the eye movement I guess... there is something unnatural about this. It is enough to compare Sheva Alomar animations and Mirandas... Sheva is clearly the superior one (beeing on the save side of the U-Valey, while Miranda is somewhere down the hole)
  • I also dislike the to much action based game play... shooting is great... but it gets too much for an RPG, although it IS a lot of fun... I somehow contradict myself here... I know...
Well... it seems I have more complaints this time around, but to be honest, the game is still so much fun, and the complaints are somewhat minor and I have to get used to a lot of changes since the first game.

As far as I'm concerned... I would rate both games with a 9 in 10 right now... and after all this fun with ME1 I had, all the fun I will have with ME2 and its (hopefully) rich DLC I will be definitely be getting Dragon Age.
