I am really enjoying DA:O. Since I have what I consider an excellent job with a decent income, I would be happy to purchase additional content for this game, but, sadly, it is not the price which is holding me back. Rather, it is the fact that I have still not been able to obtain the "free" additioinal content which I had registered with the "coupons" which came with my game. My time is valuable to me, and I have invested more than 4 hours in searching these and other forums, and (since I am not a technical expert) yet I still find myself unable to DL and install the content, and it appears that one need be a technical expert to fix whatever problems are still prevalent in EA's system. I will be happy to pay for additional content, but not at the price of additional hassle.

are you using the current version of the game, which is 1.02a?  What vare you not able to access and why are you not, or rather what error codes are you receiving?  PM me if you are so inclinded as I do not stay on the forums.  I review and post and follow up via PM's..

Either way Good Luck!

Have you tried manually downloading, since you are on PC and manually installing?
Honest offer:
if you live near enough I'll drop by and install the stuff for you :wizard:

I had some trouble at first too but I had some good advice from this thread and it has been working fine since then: http://social.biowar.../58/index/81613

Maybe you can find your problems here too if you are willing to try one last time?

So because YOU can't figure out something, you are boycotting purchasing further stuff? That is SO vain and ignorant.

THOUSANDS upon thousands of people easily figured it out, you can too.

Sorry but that is just lame and stupid.

The DLC system has a lot of known issues. Calling people stupid over that is...
Let's settle for rude :P

There are fixes, especially for the PC. If the OP wants, I think we can easily get the DLCs working for him.

By the way:
A boycott implies activism by the consumer. The OP in no way tried to persuade anyone else into not purchasing, neither is he collecting signatures. Stating one's reason why one isn't purchasing a product is feedback, not a boycott.
THOUSANDS upon thousands of people know that difference, you can too.

If it's not installing right or not installing at all, why should he buy more things that have the potential to do the same. Some systems are wonky, not everyone has a smooth experience. I for example, have yet to get the blood armor. Code redemption and everything seemed to go fine, but no armor. I haven't had the time to mess with fixed, and tbh, I'm not really that upset over not having the armor. There's plenty around.

Not everyone is a computer wiz, I'm sure not. I can't install the toolset because MSSQL and my unit don't like each other much. Yes, I'm aware there are options to do things manually, but they lose me after the second sentence. I'm not stupid, but my MSc is definitely not in computer science.

Ah sod this.
Here goes:

Step 1:
Find the link to the content you need to download. A list of the links can be found on the wikia HERE
And download the content you need. (remember the location where you have the downloaded files stored ;))

Step 2:
Find the daupdater file.
To do so go into the install directory of the game. (e.g the /Dragon Age folder)

Open the bin_ship folder, like the one in this image:

Here's the file you need to run:

(yes, I use greek windows...)

Step 3:
Use the updater to find the .dazip file (the DLC you downloaded)

in this example I am clicking the Kal-Sharok mod created by doctorofdarkness)

Step 4:

Install it

If you still need help. Shout.

Thank you for your constructive posts.

Particular thanks to you, Melkathi. Your help is invaluable. Thank you. (Please note that I do not feel that most paying customers should need resort to help of this sort, but be that as it may, it is merely a disincentive; I was not attempting to "whine" in my post but to point out to whomever cares at the publisher's direction that there is probably a significant segment of their main target group customer base who are in my shoes: people who are waving their wallets at them should only the minimum of post-sales support exist.)

I do, however, need help. I think I understand all of the steps -- but when I click the first link to which you linked, I can see lots of information on that site about the two bits of content I have already registered (Stone Prisoner & Blood Armor), but I cannot actually find any files to download anywhere. Can you point me in the right direction please? I think once I DL those files, I can follow the rest of your steps, and will indeed yell again if that did not do the trick.

Thank you.

My two coppers worth:

I have to say it would be nicer if Bioware came out with a decent updater tool. The service stops running etc and it is definitely fiddly. It was this fact that kept me away from PC games for years as I simply didn't have time to fiddle. My solution was to buy an XBox, slap in a disk and play.

Recently, however, I have started with PC gaming again and deliberately chose the DAO PC version as I read somewhere it was originally designed for PC. And I am loving modding as it is so much easier than it used to be, but if something decides not to play it can be really hard to fix and Bioware/EA rely on this community to help.

There are many good software updaters out there and I am sure it wouldn't be beyond the abilities of Bioware or EA for that matter to have a clean install prog that not only tracks updates, DLC, etc, but also gives a standard for 3rd party mod writers.

I completely agree with the original poster. I also had issues trying to get my DLC and I think that just shouldn't happen. This should be as easy as clicking a button and getting what you are entitled to.

I also had trouble but finally got it to install after rebooting a couple of times. About the third time I ran the game, it finally just worked. Go figure...

Onomastikon: the links for the DLC are at the bottom of the page Melkathi linked. There's a listing of all the DLC under the heading 'Location of Downloadable Contents'.

In an ideal world, problems won't happen. For the majority of customers, this type of thing works just as you describe you want it to. Unfortunately, there are some that experience difficulties. This is going to happen with any product.

As the Yeti-mod said. Scroll all the way down. You'll see a list called Location of Downloadable Content.

But completly against my better judgement (and all that give a man a fish and he'll have food for one day, teach a man to fish blah blah (teach a man to fish and he'll be busy trying to catch fish with a rumbling stomach))
Stone Prisoner Download
Blood Armor Download
Both links link directly to the download, so you should get a pop-up thingie.

And Stone Prisoner might also need Offer File for Stone Prisoner

Though I have no idea what the offer file is, all my DLC downloaded fine by itself.
So you will want to read up on the wiki page anyway

i went through all the faq's etc official support, tried everything. ive been playing games since the days of pong and ive always been able to fix game issues eventually. i have never had the trouble i have had with the dlc with DAO with any other game.

BUT eventually it took a reformat of my harddrive and a reinstall for the DLC to download and install properly, extreme but it worked

You're not really "entitled' to anything here, unless you bought a special version of the game, like a collector's edition.

That DLC they included with the regular game could have just as easily been purchasable content, mind you.

I can't see your point here.

My point is that the download manager in this game is buggy and too many ppl  are having problems getting things they paid for.

And to anyone who thinks this is just happening to a few ppl, you should check the PC technical support page.
Most of them manage to get the contents, but only after several frustated attempts.

3 million copies sold... Take that list of people with problems, and You'll notice that the percentage of people with problems IS indeed small...  ;)

Although that doesn't make their life easier... ^^
I hope that the issue is solved for the OP and anyone with the same problems...
*I had no problems save for the problem everyone had the first days on this forum with linking stuff/accounts but I solved it easily and fast*

And Melkathi?
You sir deserve a big frigging salute!
Kudos to You for showing me and other cynical old techies that there ARE nice, intelligent and helpful people out there, even on forums on the Internet!
I was about to rename the whole debacle "The Outernet" for how many treat eachother in all channels available on it...
Truly people should REALLY learn from Your example or just stay the hell out of public areas, both on the internet and in real life... =)

Cheers, Melkathi. I haven't ever had trouble loading DLC on my PC, but this is great to have in case I do someday.

Yes, I take screenshots of everything, throw them into paint and draw big red arrows on by mouse.
I find it makes life a lot easier to just Print Screen - open Paint - Ctrl V - draw big red arrow - upload to internet.
My skills in the art of Search-Fu may be adequate, but I doubt I could find the screenshots for everything I need to explain.
At least for stuff to do with the forum I don't need to scan stuff =]

Yeah, fix this ******-poor DLC distribution service please. I like the DLC, but not the buggy way it's being distributed. Thanks!

I like that name!
Are you using it for any kind of cyberpunk story?
It has potential...
