The only reason I am posting here is because I think this thread might be stickied, and if so, I would like this to be documented as well:
Thanks to all of your persistant help here, I was able to get the DLC up and running, the last trick was manually running the updater in that .cmd mode Hawks mentioned ....
... and NOW I cannot load my saved games anymore. I receive the error message that I have to log on as the owner of the premium content, which would be almost amusing (considered I AM logged in, I don't HAVE another account) except I just want to play the damn game now without this ridiculous additonal content. Frankly, I would be pleased to deactivate the content and never attempt to install any again ("free" or purchased), I feel the headache is certainly not worth it. I AM logged in (although if I knew I had to play online from now on, I would not have installed it, I would have liked to be able to stay offline).
If anyone can just help me get the saves up, I would be grateful, and I will never post here again, although I do think that there might have been some kind of warning somewhere: "danger, DLC unsuitable for non-programmers".
Well thank you

rofl!!!
Sorry, I can't believe this ****. You would think that after developing a game for so many years things like DLC should work ingame...? It shouldn't be so much agrivating...
I just did a check ingame to see if I could figure something out and this did the trick for me...
Again, first of all, I'm asuming you have all the DLC stuff you want to use downloaded and installed.
I turned of the DA:O - Content Updater running in the background for this test. I had the "Unauthorized" message as well when I tried to load an old safe.
Startup the game.
Check the DLC stuff in the 'Downloadable Content" area. It will probably say some things are not authorized.
Now LOG OUT (left bottom corner)
Check the Downladable Content tab again, you shouldn't see any "Unauthorized" messages behind any DLC stuff.
Load a safe game/start up a new game, it doesn't matter. All the DLC stuff should be active now.
The game should work without problems making your headache go away because you have too much fun playing
I hope this method will finally make the game work for you.
As a last resort you might want to delete/remove all the DLC stuff you manually installed, then try that thing I told you earlier with the .cmd mode.
If you registered the game on the bioware site and all the DLC stuff you bought the game would try to download and install that ingame. You can follow the progress of the downloading and installing in the "Downloadable Content" area.
Again, happy hunting!
Hawks

Oh hey, thanks so much for your help.
I have actually started over with a new character and will be avoiding the DLC until the issue is resolved, if ever. Simply too much hassle.
Thank you for your help nevertheless.

Mine was nuts too. I fiddled around and finally it downloaded, errored and downloaded again.
It was weird beyond belief but all I can say is that first, I opened up the game and went to player profile and did all that horse pucky.
Then I *opened up a totally different window* and turned off my NoScript [firefox] RELOGGED IN...then manually typed in the url for the content.
Then I punched in all the silly numbers and nothing happened.
A couple of hours later, while yapping in the forums--it downloaded itself. Full of errors, eventually I got it.
But it didn't show up anywhere as being there.
Then when I turned off the game and left and came back--there it was.
I felt like I was drinking vodka with the Mad Hatter...
That was after WEEKS of trying.
I am so not impressed.
From here on in--if it ain't in the box, I don't want to know about it!

The only thing i have to add is that from a few negative comments posted here the community is great. I had the same troubles getting my mods to work months ago and the community stepped right up and helped me get working. This is a testament to the quality of the people who play these games, try this on the Steam forums for L4D2 and the experience is VERY different.
While i have figured out with help from the forums how to fix the very same issues months ago, i will say thanks to the responders here who tried to help, not that it means anything more than i appreciate the help i recieved when i needed it.
Nice work folks

I completely agree with the original poster. I also had issues trying to get my DLC and I think that just shouldn't happen. This should be as easy as clicking a button and getting what you are entitled to.
I agree too! I've been reporting DLC purchase/redemption issues up the ladder since I started. A lot of them should be resolved in a future update (release date TBD).
Does "release date TBD" mean not in our lifetime?
