Just want to know what characters you have with you and why? Who is your favorit and what combination of characters do you think is the most fun?

It depends upon what I'm doing. Since I never play a sociopath, I leave Morrigan at camp for almost all interactions. She's great for combat, however. I love her interactions with Alistair, Wynne and Lelianna so if Morrigan is in the party, they tend to be as well. Oghren and Shale are always with me in the Deep Roads for thematic reasons. Sten can also have approval issues with conversations. So I tend to use him only when fighting or traveling. I take Dog to each area at least once for Mabari Dominance and freebies.

Other than that, what companions come with depends mostly upon what the quest is, what they are equipped with and what spells they have and if I think they will be entertaining.

My first playthrough had Alistair, Leliana, & Wynne for most of the game. That's a very nice "good" party that works well with Warriors and Mages.

This time around I'm trying very hard to shake things up and have different companions for different areas. The one thing that's really stood out to me is Sten. He's somehow ended up being my most used NPC to this point ... and he's both interesting and effective to boot.

Simple group up:

Alistair for tanking. I had him since the beginning of the game.

Wynne for healing. What can I say other than that she is a healer?

Morrigan for DPS. Mage damage is pretty good, plus she can Crowd Control too.

I myself am a DPS as a rogue.

Most of the game I had Morrigan and Alistair, plus whoever else, often Sten, as a final member.

Late game I used Morrigan, Sten, and Oghren. This didn't have a tank persay, but the the amount of damage that Sten and Oghren did made it a very effective group.

I am just heading to the final battle at the tower and have decided on

Alistair, Sten, and Oghren.

Definitely play around a bit with groupings, they give a very different combat feel.

Pretty much same, wynne is healer + glypher/hexer/shatter, Morrigan dps/cc/aoe + i like her comments and personality at all (shes not simple good/evil, seems more neutral and practical seeing world in its raw form), rest of utilities r on me (pickpocket, lockpick, stealth, trapdisarm, as staby rogue assasin/bard focus on singletarget-bosses/casters).

I also enjoyed Sten on 1 playthrough, he has best random dialogs with Leliana and Morrigan.

I tend to have one mage, one rogue, a DPS warrior, and a tank on each playthrough. So my mage took along Leliana, Dog, and Alistair; my dual-wield warrior took Morrigan, Zevran, and Shale; and my rogue ususally brings along Wynne, Sten, and Alistair. I try to match up character's personalities with my PCs so they don't hate every decision I make, and this way I get to know a few of them really well on each playthrough.

Dog - Doesn't complain unless it's injured.
Morrigan - Whine(Wynne) is downright annoying.
Shale - Because Shale can stop the pigeon.
Leliana - Kinda necesarry if you've not got Device Mastery for Zevran yet.

I use them all depending on whether I'm playing a good, evil, or neutral character. However, my favorites are:
Morrigan (on the side)
Oghren, (**spoiler** I laughed my ass off when he told Wynne, "Yeah I'd give you a roll" and she was like, "a roll"?)
Shale (and the birds)
Leiliana (the 'good' girl...yeah ok)
...and my trusty companion, Dog.

Morrigan, Alistair, and Leliana, as often as I could get away with it (meaning I didn't specifically need a different character or have one forced on me). I really enjoyed their banter.

I make my parties based on RP choices

Male City Elf Rogue - Shale, Dog/Sten, Morrigan - I don't like interacting with Humans
Male Dalish Warrior - Zev (dalish cousin), Morrigan (foresty), Dog (animal)
Male Human Warrior - Leliana, Wynne, Dog or Alistair
Male Dwarf - Similar to City elf with either Zev or Sten/Dog depending on class
Female Mage - Alistair (used to Templars + giong to bang him), Zevram (fellow Elf + going to bang him), Shale (owned by mage again sucka!)

Me (currently) - Human noble dual-wielding, ass kicking female warrior
Sten - Because he's a bad ass and my favorite character next to Leliana
Leliana - Because I love her
Shale - I finally got around to downloading her, so I'm using her to hear her banter (which so far is very entertaining). The only problem I'm having with her is that she seems pretty useless in combat, but that may be because I haven't been able to level her much yet. Low armor + low defense gets her killed really fast, regardless of her high HP. I'm trying to learn her bottom set of talents, though, which seems like it will make her very useful for buffing my party.

I try to rotate, but for whatever reason, I have a hard time without Alistair. I think it's because I don't really make Sten or Oggie into tanks, and I've never really got the hang of Shale (seriously, I'm on 16th level now, and she just got munched by a dwarf fanatic mob of all things). But if I've got Alistair with his shield wall up and a taunt or two, life is good.

Plus, he looks cute as anything in that Warden armour.

First run was with:
  • Me as DW rogue
  • Alistair
  • Wynne
  • Morrigan

That was obviously too easy so I switched to nightmare and decided to make a trio. So now I have:
  • Me as a mage (I avoided BM and AW since they are too powerfull and ruin the game for me).
  • Zevran to have lockpicking but also DPS (insane DPS when used with all my frost and stun spells!)
  • Shale as my tank.

I have a soft spot for Alistair, Morrigan and Leleina, probably because they were my first colleagues (I missed out on Dog and Sten was too grumpy). And those three fit no matter what class my Warden is. But I should try to mix it up more as I’d like to hear all the banter. I've heard that letting Zev and and Ohgren rescue you from Fort Drakon is priceless. I’m also going to try a mage-less group, for the challenge and perhaps as a prelude to a solo effort.

I'm using Alistair, Oghren and Wynne most of the time (PC Dual-wielding rogue). I sometimes go back over areas with Leliana to open chests. On shady quests in Denerim, I've been using Dog, Zevran or Leliana and Morrigan, after leaving Morrigan alone for a long time. I enjoyed Morrigan's banter with Alistair, but I got irritated with her constant disapproval.

A lot depends on my characters class and talents/skills. Alistair tends to be in my party the vast majority of times, but otherwise the cast rotates.  I switch characters in and out more in the beginning of the game, but once I've built up a team to complement each other, I tend to stick with the same characters exclusively from about mid-game forward.

- my rogue archers (I've played 3) handled the utility functions like lockpicking, setting/disabling traps, etc., so I didn't use Leliana much since I was basically duplicating her function with my PC.  One playthrough I took mostly Alistair/Morrigan/Zevran, one was Alistair/Wynne/Zevran, and one was Shale/Wynne/Zevran.

- my human noble 2-hander took Alistair/Wynne/Leliana mostly.

- my current DW CUN rogue is taking Alistair/Wynne/Leliana.  I used Leliana mostly for lockpicking/trap disabling in the early game so I could focus on building up my rogue's combat abilities, and intended to drop her for maybe Morrigan or Sten (whom I haven't used very much in any playthrough) once I could focus on my rogue's utilities.  However, I'm finding the idea of stacking Bard songs very intriguing, so I may keep her!

- I've started--and restarted--so many mages, and I've had all kinds of combinations of companions with them.  Except a 3 mage party--that I haven't tried yet.  Maybe my first time through Nightmare difficulty!

I tend to use Oghren and Shale in the Deep Roads in all playthroughs for story reasons.  I haven't used Sten very much at all, but I want to, so I may have to plan my next playthrough around the idea of him in my party.

I'm currently going around with a " girls night out " group its proving quite a challenge game mechanics wise but I am doing it for RP purposes

Morrigan

Wynne

Leliana

Myself as a female mage

It sucks not having a tank lol ( although TECHNICALLY I suppose I could use Shale as " it " is a " she " )

I finally discovered the respec mod and I'm loving it. I'm currently a two-handed warrior so obviously Sten would be redundant and having to start Morrigan as a healer from her beginning set of attributes would be insane. But (and this could very well be called an advertisement for the respec mod), with the mod I am able to do away with Alistair's near ubiquous presence throughout EVERY playthrough and respec Sten as a sword and board tank (pretty cool when a 7ft quanari is your tank), respec Morrigan as a healer/damage dealer (and can reasonably kill Wynne with a clean - gameplaywise - conscience), and, for giggles, respec Alistair as a Templar/warrior Archer - which works fairly well, especially with the Repeater Gloves from the RtO DLC as some of the higher end bows don't always have Rapid Aim as an added bonus.

Before I found/decided to use the mod, it's been Alistair (tank), Leliana (archer, lockpicker), and Wynne (healer) for nearly 3 entire playthroughs. That just gets stuffy.

You know, every 2h warrior can tank, if you have a party with supporting CC's, and even Shale beats Alistair as tanking and soaking damage on bosses. You don't even need a healer as long as you have enough CC and potions.

My actual playthrough is:
Me - Spirit healer, glyphing, buffing, some casual burst
Shale - Tank/Offtank/Ranged burst/Aoe burst
Leliana - Sniper/picklocker
Oghren - Drunken one, just adding some CC and damage

If you play it well on nightmare you can almost one shoot entire groups with only shale, it's kind of depressing even >< Put a repulsion glyph on a door, shale on ranged mood, throw rock+rock rain->switch melee->use earthquake = mobs dead or close to dead, leliana one shooting ranged foes, and Oghren picking the lasting ones, with him random stunning and shale going tank with the almost infinite agro she did at the start, it's a piece of cake

I just love Shale, it's a monster
