I've just had same problem. Achievements dropped to complete 0. That is so not cool... besides there was no "Resume game" option in the main menu. I had to choose career and save game manually. I wonder how that affect import process to ME 3. Maybe some Bioware guys can help us somehow?

I reinstalled windows (upon moving save games to other place so I could restore them) and what happened? Same thing - I can load game (no resume game though - had to use manual load for first time) and no achievements at all. So guess achievements and some account settings are in different place (had to login to cerberus again), which is not nice
you would expect everything is fine after copying your data from my documents... But I guess it wont affect your import to ME3 - it is save game import not some stupid profile
- I believe it works when you download someone's save game so it will work after your crash as well but i think some official explanation would be nice.

I have problems with achievements too, but it's not the worst thing: I can resume game, but I can't LOAD saved game:( When I save game I can see all games that I have saved before, but when I choose LOAD GAME I see nothing:(

The only solution that I've found is to back up your profile every so often. I believe it is located here:
Documents > BioWare > Mass Effect 2 > BIOGame > Profile >
Documents > BioWare > Mass Effect 2 > BIOGame > Profile >

I also had this problem. My computer reboot while playing (possibly got too hot) and now my achievements are gone and the auto save file was blank and didn't work. Also, my first name is missing from the careers list. It just says " Shepard" as my name.
I have a feeling that this is going to cause problems in the future. Any solutions?

It's irrelevant for ME3 save import because you only need your character save not the whole profile. But as for the achievement stored in the profile the only thing lost is the exp bonus and extra powers. Still the only solution for that is to make backup and nothing else. Of course it might motivate you to get them again xD Maybe it's not a bug but a feature
That would be nasty...
but well planned....

That'd be a horrible "feature." I had to reinstall windows and the files don't transfer with those in the rest of the Mass Effect folder? Doesn't make sense.Bartooz wrote...

Vista locked up on me while I was playing ME2. When I restarted, my saves were there but my achievements were set to zero. There's no way to get back the ones that were done?

If your comp is set to keep back ups of some files, there may be one for your achievements. Go to the directory M3lt1ng refers to and see if there's some sort of recovery option when you go into Player1.prf's Properties menu.

Had a smilar issue. Computer Crashed. Restored it. Save games work but Achievements reset. Eg. 'Recruit the Quarian' is not showing as completed even though Tali is on the team. No access to bonus powers. Also don't know how this effects ME3 imports. Is there an 'achievement editor' out there that I can use? I'm not a teenager anymore Bioware! My wife won't let me replay this game!!! Please help!

Had this same issue.
As mentioned above, backing up your Profile will keep your achievement data.
It can be found from:
Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\BIOGame\\Profile

And yet, restoring that file in the proper place still does nothing for me. Do I need to create a new game or something? Not even my saved games are showing up.

Same thing just happened to me, I had every achievement except Insanity and was playing my way towards getting that, now I don't even want to play anymore.

This happened to me too. I was halfway through LotSB, and all of a sudden my achievements were gone. I had everything too, including Insanity.

Would be nice if our achievements were tied to our accounts that we have log in to and not in a local file that is apparently very easy to corrupt.

Is there any type of program to edit this file like the save editor? I've searched around but can't find anything.

I've had the exact same problem. Game crashed and froze the computer, forcing me to reset. When I reloaded up and started playing again, all my achievements were gone (which is annoying), my first name was missing from my profile, and the "rseume" and "auto" saves were both missing/corrupted.
Fortunately, I'd saved it only 5 minutes before, and reloaded and resaved that...which restored the name on the profile. And the auto save and resume saves weren't an issue (litterally 5 minutes of nothing in between, easily repeatable).
However, I lost my achievements and haven't found a way to restore them, short of playing through the game...again (not appealing...it'll be the 7th time I'll have done so :S). Had pretty much all of them too, and obviously, can't restore some of them, as I'm right at the end of the game, after the Suicide mission and downloadeable content (it acctually crashed in the latest DLC, Arrival.)
So...yeah, a little annoyed... Would like an editor or something to fix the missing achievements - not because they're that important, just because, I earned them and damn it, lossing them to a glitch is pretty damn annoying.

I'm having this problem as well. I guess I will have to earn all my achievements back and save my profile now.
