Ive actually been hoping Edi will try to woo joker in ME3...hilarity.

They could change the Normandy into a transformer and you can take her with you on missions in which the Normandy (Which is controlled by EDI) will change into a humanoid-robot-form ala Optimus Prime. It could be a soldier class... or perhaps even Infiltrator.

EDI is completely different than Legion, she is designed to appear human, to think more like humans do. When the geth were created, the quarians tried hard to assure they get not too humanlike. Their AI is an accident, EDI's was designed. They even have some talk about how different they are.
Considering hardware, pseudorealistic considerations hardly matter. Nobody said EDI needs all the servers onboard (they surely aren't only for her personality, more for firewalls and electronic warfare), and they can easily come up with some reapertech-processor. The Thanix cannon breaks the rules of ME1 combat because it's new technology (no spoilers) and nobody complains (it's actually nicely explained). What about using the "quantum entanglement communicator" to connect the 2 versions of EDI in realtime regardless of distance?

Or the reapers want to take control over the avatar using the reaper technology in her. And when we believe EDI betrayed us, she self-destructs inside harbingers mass effect core, sacrificing her new beloved human appearence for humans and organics... wouldn't that be epic?

I admit, if I wouldn't be a huge fan of Tricia Helfer, I wouldn't care as much... but she was awesome in BSG!

I suggested this weeks ago. Look at "Andromeda", the ship has an Avatar. There are any number of ways that an Avatar could be created for EDI storywise.

Geth are different, but not in the way you mention.
I can't really say in what way since it'll probably count as spoilers.
So, just ask Legion some questions if you wake it up.

Yeah I think that is a must. EDI should be like a female Data from STNG but more real looking. Besides Joker needs a girlfriend lol.

No, I'd rather EDI just remain on the ship. She works best as an additional member of the crew like Joker and Chakwas.

Well, another aspect is that it would save the dev's from bringing up totally new and unknown squadmates! Heard some other nice options like Aria (at least she is powerful and believably badass).
And old Anderson picking up his gun for the final fight would be nice, too ("Am I the person Shepard wants protecing the galaxy?")

What if she looked human but perhaps had a shiny metallic skin, also they could dress her in a body suit the same colours of the ship with normandy written up her thigh?

A plausable way to incorperate EDI as a playable char is

-You investigate an abandoned Cerberus project that was testing proto-type robotics

-After exploring the lab you find the finished product of their work, a humaniod machine that was being tested to insure the Lazarus project would work. (its just an empty cyborg shell)

-You are given the choice to: Let EDI hack it, she will be permantly transfered into the humanoid body and you lose her as an AI on the Normandy, or Salvage the parts into a weapon (Like the Revanent, Widow, Claymore choices)
