This has been my only problem for the last 3 days. I have tried everything I have read on these forums to try and fix the issue. I guarantee that if you reccomend another person's post, I have tried their advice. I've tried using the search tool, but it doesn't work, so now I am posting this pity-plea to anyone who can give me some advice. I meet all of the system requirements:
-Nvidia geforce 8600 gt 256mb
-2046mb Ram
-intel core duo 2.00ghz
-SOund Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
-Windows xp 32

I don't get any error reports or notifications, just a black screen. I've driver sweeped everything and reinstalled it all.

The black freeze occurs right before the character creation screen(I assume).

Appreciates any help..:crying:

I am having this exact same issue. Were you ever able to get the game working?

I think I might have had the same problem. If you have a dual-core processor, do Control-Alt-Delete to pull up the task manager. Then click the Processes tab. Then find the one labeled "daorigins.exe", right click it, then click Set Affinity. There should be a list of checkboxes saying CPU0, CPU1, etc. Deselect all except CPU0. Do all of this while on the main menu screen of Dragon Age Origins. This will turn off the second processor temporarily for that particular program so it can run at regular speed. You'll have to do this each time you play Dragon Age unless you happen to know a way to permanently turn it off for that program. Hope this helps.
