There is a code hidden in the IFF that transmits once it is hooked up to the Normandy's system.

Indeed. After going to the IFF, you have time for, like, one or two missions before the collectors appear.

Once you go to the IFF, it happens the next time you click on the helm to go somewhere.



UNLESS you go to Legion first, wake him up and get his quest. Once you have his Loyalty quest you can use the helm as normal and go do his mission. The abduction will happen after you finish it.

so as long as you dont do legions mission you can keep doing stuff?

No, if you don't do it the collectors appear right away.

No... you can do up to 2 missions, when you try to do 2nd or 3rd it fires up the abduction scene.

Edit: @SelphieSK not entirely true, I sent Legion back with Cerberus and then did Grunt's loyalty mission and another N7 mission then when I went for another N7 mission I got the abduction sequence on my first playthrough
