Well I guess that depends on if we get a chance to kill off the council again or not. I would bet on retirement if we live but I would like to think supreme ruler of the galaxy.

I think he might die, like finally die, IMO. Shepard's always been a larger-than-life character, so I couldn't imagine him getting on with normal life after facing a horrible alien threat.

Would be cool if your last action in the third game of the trilogy would be to order the crew to abandon ship, take the helm yourself and plunge the Normandy into a Reaper, sacrificing yourself to save others. At least, that would be the paragon thing to do. A renegade would demand that his crew go down with him or sacrifice someone else instead.

Come to think of it, kind of like the end of Dragon Age.

Retire to some distant world beyond the commotions of every day life, escape the politics and corruption that plagues the universe.  Build a house and spend the rest of my days with my woman (Ash or Jack depending on which Shepard.)

Did they say that 3 was going to be the last mass effect or just the end of the shepard story?

Kingdom of Heaven style. Yeah, I'd like that ending.

Just the end of the Shepard story, the Mass Effect universe is worth too much to EA to abandon it.

Paragon : I think that Shepard will die in a blaze of glory saving the universe

Renegade : Shepard will rule the universe with an army of reapers at his side.Posted Image

Oh retire for sure. He should get to keep the Normandy and whoever on the crew wants to retire with him, and they'll float around and sightsee and drink tequila and generally just mess about for a few years until they all settle down.

Actually I think he'll take another young spectre candidate under his wing, one who is the opposite morality from Shepard. Then, in a climactic firefight, Shepard will be shot and die just 2 days away from retirement. Young Spectre will then go on a rampage of revenge.

Head Reaper: "Killing me won't bring Shepard back!"

Spectre McSomething: "Aint that a shame." BLAM!

Then there's a sad funeral scene at the end where Shepard vows to protect Shepards widow and children. He was just 2 says away from retirement...

I hope there's happy ending for a Paragon Shephard. I'm a sucker for happy endings and I dislike if Shep's only choice is to die. I should get to live on with Liara until the end of days, or something else :)

At the ending of ME3 you'll be presented with 3 choices:

Renegade: You do something renegade and it backfires and kills you and your entire crew, but you kill "the Big Bad Guy" too.

Paragon: You sacrifice yourself to safe your crew and/or life as we know it

Undecided: Pretty much the same as renegade, but accidental instead of badass.

He'll be dead. There's no way he survives ME3.

Don't know...

I think the way Bioware is going, YOU will decide if Shepard lives or dies.

Although sacrificing himself to save the world (or to kick a reapers ass - renegade) would be a logical ending to the series.

Whatever it is, I don't want Shepard to die. I'd like to see him grow old or something, perhaps something that involves one of the romances.

I can't see a happy ever after ending working at all tbh, it just seems far to Disney. Shepard has seen so many horrible things and survived with a general lack of support from any of his superiors. Shepard would be so jaded that he would either sacrifice himself to end the current threat and avoid the inevitable sidelining and political BS; defeat the Reapers and then vanish into uncharted space to escape an unworthy galaxy; or get so fed up and discontent with the Council that he would become a villian in a later game.

So, my prediction is; sacrifice death, Revan-style disappearance, or hero-turned-villian for a future game. You heard it here first folks. B)

I second that... I hate tragic endings in fiction (games, movies, especially games, life already is full of tragedy) like "Fallout 3" (Bethesda even came up with DLC to remedy that)... for me personaly it has something to do with the attachemnt to the main character (it's like part of me dies)... with Shepard it would be even worse (after all those things he got trough)... just my 2 cents!  :P

I would also be ok with second (bolded) conclusion... (but no death, Shepard cheated death once already).

I wouldn't mind if Shepard could finally die in one of the possible endings but that should neither be the "ultimate/best" ending (which should be hard to achieve, btw.) nor should it be reserved for a paragon character.

A paragon character might decide on selfsacrifice because he thinks "Better me than anyone else, there have been enough losses already".

A renegade character might also decide on selfsacrifice, though, perhaps because he thinks "There is no other way" or "I want to make sure that everything is done the right way".

I just want a vacation with Thane, or Kaidan, err, depending on what happens in ME3. My FemShep will need a nice, long break after everything. :P

As much as I love Shepard (the single best protaganist in gaming history, IMO), I would hope his story would conclude with Mass Effect 3. Any games after that should have a new protoganist with a new backstory, new squadmates, and a new set of enemies.

I wouldn't mind a graying, middle-aged Shepard returning as an NPC in a Captain Anderson role, however.  Posted Image
