I would prefer ending where Shepard sacrifice himself and then have big funeral where all squadmates past and present would say some words. That would be uber cool!

I want to be emperor of humanity and preferably the entire galaxy.

Of course, one of my Shepards will end up building Tali a house on the Quarian homeworld...

Another will probably die fighting the Reapers...

There's something very unrealistic to me about happy ending. It's like, things don't work like that, a happy ending is always another threat in disguise.

/Vengeful Nature-brand cynicism.

If your playing a Paragon one of the responses to Grunt in ME2 is "I'm not going to do this forever"

Meaning that while Shepard does enjoy gallivanting around the galaxy killing hundreds. Eventually he wants to retire settle down, just like every soldier does.

That is if your playing a Paragon

Shepard returning back from the dead isn't unrealistic?

I am sure Bioware will come up with something to fulfil everyone's needs. Undoubtably they are going to have several multiple endings, one of which has him die and one has him live.

Ive also noticed people have been playing the Force Unleashed and Dragon Age Origins a bit to much. Come on video game endings don't have to be as abstract as wether he dies in a blaze of glory or not. It could function as a lesser of two evils ending. Like Shepard has to sacrifice himself to save the rest of his crew to survive. Like a true hero is trained to eventually do. Or better yet go with a Deus Ex style in that Shepard has to choose one out of 3 endings that all really screw the universe over in some way, but redeem it in others. All depending on your perception of what should really happen.

Either that or I would prefer Mass Effect 3 ending like the original began. With Shepard looking out on Earth, a planet he is a stranger to.

Another RPG saga, probably another trilogy. Either with a new character and crew, or Shepard returns to save the galaxy again. I'm probably in the minority when I say I would like to see another set of games with Shepard. Just because this story ends with a trilogy, doesn't mean he/she can't return and fly around the galaxy with Garrus/Tali etc being space miscreants forever. Or team up with Jack and become a pirate. Still room for other races/planets/threats/characters to keep things fresh.

Say no to MMOs.

I think Shepard should have a glorious death.  Not using the in-game engine, because that doesn't look as good.  And when I say I think he should die at the end of ME3, I don't mean he should get blown up by a Reaper or something.  He should slam the Normandy into some sort of Reaper control center that will turn them off forever.

Pros and cons of him dying:
Pros- Goes out with a bang, very climactic, goes down in history as a savior
Cons- Such a cool character is dead

Pros and cons of him not dying:
Pros- He's alive, leaves room for more of Shepard's story
Cons- Not climactic at all (see good ending for BioShock), boring (somehow I don't think he will want to do much after defeating the largest threat to galactic civilization)

Edit:  NO prequels or sequels please.  Only spin-offs.  Star Wars Episodes 1-3 showed us what happens when a good character is ruined by bean counters.  BioWare need to end Shepard's story before EA get too greedy.

I would much rather have episodes for Mass Effect (ala Half Life 2) after the trilogy ends than ME4.  Trilogies are always the way to go.

Shepard can't die. Look what happened to his crew when he was dead for 2 years. Shepard is the glue of these people. Dying makes no sense.

I really hope that Bioware has it in them to make something like the fallout series endings (except 3...WHAT UTTER CRAP ENDING). They tell you how your choices effected the universe around you at the end. Like my awesome pornstar ending at the end of Fallout 2. It not only told about my ending but every choice i made in game effected those characters later in life. (i think thats the one)

Too me shepard is indeed larger than life. Bioware made him pretty much invincible. It seems like whatever task he gets he succeeds. It seems like his legend would be so far out there if he didn't die after mass effect 3. If he survives where does the next story go. No one is ever gonna be better for the job than shepard.

So to fix this here is my scenario for the next game:

Shepard is inside of the leader of the reapers alone. He has fought his way through to the core of the vessel. He is armed with a bomb made of dark matter. Badly wounded he goes to detonate the bomb, then the reaper sends a spear like weapon goes through his body. Its Garrus He can't let the humans save the galaxy. He betrays you he goes to detonate the bomb and leave you there to die. "It was a good run old friend", he says , but full of adrenaline u won't let him leave. So u pull out the spear. And with no one in the universe watching the two tango fist to fist, the last battle for both and they r never seen again. No one knew where shepard went but the illusive man and he sent Garrus after him , apparently humanity doesn't need a shepard. "scene"

not good for me i want sheperd to take illusive mans place and in me3 he has a son that follow his footsteps so a new enemy comes along and fine sheperd and then kills him and with his last breath you see the face of all his friends in flashback and then his son finds him dead so his son go to fight the killers and at the end he has only one way left and uses the dark matter bomb "scene" the end

Actually I think he'll take another young spectre candidate under his wing, one who is the opposite morality from Shepard. Then, in a climactic firefight, Shepard will be shot and die just 2 days away from retirement. Young Spectre will then go on a rampage of revenge.

Head Reaper: "Killing me won't bring Shepard back!"
Spectre McSomething: "Aint that a shame." BLAM!

Then there's a sad funeral scene at the end where Shepard vows to protect Shepards widow and children. He was just 2 says away from retirement...

That would simply be setting the new character up for fan hatred.  Evil version of main character, only not as bad ass, is one of the worst, and most overused, cliches in videogame-dom (see Metal Gear Solid 2).

Kinda hard for Shepard to top the Reapers. So either he goes out in a massive blaze of glory, taking out an entire solar system along with the Alpha Reaper or we have a balls-to-the-wall happy, sappy ending. Think waking up injured with all your squadmates looking on and Grunt & Wrex becoming so overjoyed that they leap up onto your sickbed, where they commence to jump up and down while giggling uncontrollably, with everyone else tearing up, etc. Followed by you and Joker sitting on a porch nibbling on some Varren skewers, drinking beer and cracking jokes about melting down all the metal from the your squads medallions to build a new starship.

Shepard must die. The guy can't face a race that wiped out life for millions of years and win for three straight games and go unscratched. Civilization survives, but shepard must die. Who is he master chief. Is he Steven Segual. Jean Claude Van Damn! he is invincible.

My shep is going to settle down with Liara in that swanking pad he won on Penical station and raise a couple of little blue bundles of joy.

I would like to think that you have the option of going to Fero's or Eden Prime, with you LI and just dropping off of the galaxy's radar. If there is another story, involving a 'Shepard', let it be your son, daughter or grandchild. Who takes up the call of saving the galaxy, like gramps once did, back in the day.
