Of course, one of my Shepards will end up building Tali a house on the Quarian homeworld...
Another will probably die fighting the Reapers...

Meaning that while Shepard does enjoy gallivanting around the galaxy killing hundreds. Eventually he wants to retire settle down, just like every soldier does.
That is if your playing a Paragon

There's something very
unrealistic to me about happy ending. It's like, things don't work like
that, a happy ending is always another threat in disguise.

Shepard returning back from the dead isn't unrealistic?
I am sure Bioware will come up with something to fulfil everyone's needs. Undoubtably they are going to have several multiple endings, one of which has him die and one has him live.
Ive also noticed people have been playing the Force Unleashed and Dragon Age Origins a bit to much. Come on video game endings don't have to be as abstract as wether he dies in a blaze of glory or not. It could function as a lesser of two evils ending. Like Shepard has to sacrifice himself to save the rest of his crew to survive. Like a true hero is trained to eventually do. Or better yet go with a Deus Ex style in that Shepard has to choose one out of 3 endings that all really screw the universe over in some way, but redeem it in others. All depending on your perception of what should really happen.
Either that or I would prefer Mass Effect 3 ending like the original began. With Shepard looking out on Earth, a planet he is a stranger to.

Pros and cons of him dying:
Pros- Goes out with a bang, very climactic, goes down in history as a savior
Cons- Such a cool character is dead
Pros and cons of him not dying:
Pros- He's alive, leaves room for more of Shepard's story
Cons- Not climactic at all (see good ending for BioShock), boring (somehow I don't think he will want to do much after defeating the largest threat to galactic civilization)
Edit: NO prequels or sequels please. Only spin-offs. Star Wars Episodes 1-3 showed us what happens when a good character is ruined by bean counters. BioWare need to end Shepard's story before EA get too greedy.
I would much rather have episodes for Mass Effect (ala Half Life 2) after the trilogy ends than ME4. Trilogies are always the way to go.

So to fix this here is my scenario for the next game:
Shepard is inside of the leader of the reapers alone. He has fought his way through to the core of the vessel. He is armed with a bomb made of dark matter. Badly wounded he goes to detonate the bomb, then the reaper sends a spear like weapon goes through his body. Its Garrus He can't let the humans save the galaxy. He betrays you he goes to detonate the bomb and leave you there to die. "It was a good run old friend", he says , but full of adrenaline u won't let him leave. So u pull out the spear. And with no one in the universe watching the two tango fist to fist, the last battle for both and they r never seen again. No one knew where shepard went but the illusive man and he sent Garrus after him , apparently humanity doesn't need a shepard. "scene"

Actually I think he'll take another young spectre candidate under his wing, one who is the opposite morality from Shepard. Then, in a climactic firefight, Shepard will be shot and die just 2 days away from retirement. Young Spectre will then go on a rampage of revenge.
Head Reaper: "Killing me won't bring Shepard back!"
Spectre McSomething: "Aint that a shame." BLAM!
Then there's a sad funeral scene at the end where Shepard vows to protect Shepards widow and children. He was just 2 says away from retirement...
That would simply be setting the new character up for fan hatred. Evil version of main character, only not as bad ass, is one of the worst, and most overused, cliches in videogame-dom (see Metal Gear Solid 2).
