As soon as you get Legion on the ship, activate him. After your little chat talk to him immediately. He will tell you about his loyalty mission on the geth station. Then you can go.

I've read that it depends on your dialog choices during the great race to the final boss. If you say "we'd better hurry" someone dies...apparently.

How do you keep Joker alive? I want to make sure the crew lives and I come out of this end game with a full squad.

Joker is ... immortal. Kinda.

He survives as only one even if Shepard doesn't.

I read in other threads (why can't I search the forum?) that you can do the legion loyality quest, but it makes sense that you can. I didn't realize that Mordin was random. My experince (with my femshep) is you can do lots and lots of missions after IFF and only Kelly dies.

AT least these posts make sense :) Tme to reload and replay until Mordin lives, I guess.

Interesting you have to choose between Kelly and Legion...

Isn't the Iff mission where you get legion?

Someone did another thread where they said Mordin's death also depends on who goes with you on the final boss mission. If you take too many big guns Mordin may die--I do not know this personally as Mordin never died for me---only ever Jack and the crew. One play I took Samara and Thane, and another I took tali and Zaeed. Mordin didn't die either time.

you mean this very same thread with the post from the dev stating it?

Just to give the dev's quote a nudge seeing as people keep bringing the question up about Mordin.

Dusty Everman wrote...

Mordin's death is not a glitch or
bug.  I believe that when people are surprised with Mordin's death,
it's during the "Hold the Line" time where you leave crew behind as you
and two squad mates move onward.   Tech had their moment in the sun
with the tunnel infiltration.  A biotic is key for the protective
bubble.  The Hold the Line sequence is time for your soldier types to
do their best.

Basically you want your best DEFENDERS to hold
the line.  Don't think about offensive solo strikers.  Think about the
guys that can dig down and hold a position with moxie.  You want them
to hold the line.

Under the hood, each character has a "hole the
line" score, which gets a bonus  if the character is loyal.  Characters
like Mordin, Jack and Tali are squishy and not exoeruenced with
bunkering down and holding out for an extended period of time.
Characters like Grunt and Zaeed are tanks who thrive on this type of
work.  The score is tallied for all the team members that are holding
the line, and the number of survivors are calculated.  If people are to
die, the non-loyals squishies go first through the list to the loyal
tanks.  Alas, I think Mordin is at the head of the death list.  Some
characters can't survive without help even if they are loyal.  Others
can survive even if not loyal.

Here are some examples for the group holding the line:
Loyal Mordin by himself:  He can't hold the line by himself.  He dies.
Non-loyal
Grunt by himself: Grunt lives.  He hunkers down and gets the job done,
and doesn't have to worry about helping any one else.
Loyal Mordin
and non-Loyal Grunt:   Grunt dies, but Mordin lives.  Grunt is able to
hold the line but goofs up helping Mordin... he was just too aggressive
without his right of passage.
Loyal Mordin and Loyal Grunt: They both live.

Note it is possible to get non-loyal henchmen to survive through the end game with the proper group holding the line.

So
what is a good strategy?  Send back a loyal squishy with the crew, like
Mordin or Tali.   Leave your defensive bad asses to hold the line
(hmmm, Garrus defended a base all by himself to an extended period of
time....)  and take your loyal offensive favorites with you to the end.

As
for saving Kelly and the crew, you just need to make sure you go
through the Omega-4 relay right after the crew is taken, and make sure
you send a loyal squad mate back as an escort.

I took Tali & Jack to fight the Human Reaper. After reading that dev post it turned out to be a better choice than I thought since neither are good with 'Line Holding.'

did the same here...though I might of also taken mordin for the T-100 bashing and sent tali as an escort.

I'm having similar problems as the OP, I don't seem to have enough time between the Reaper IFF and Legion's loyalty to save the crew, the IFF installs too quickly. I want to have Legion with me when I do Tali's loyalty as well, but if I bring him the IFF installs before I can make Legion loyal. The best thing I've done is to do Tali's loyalty before the Reaper IFF mission, and then afterward do Legion's loyalty, which sometimes I still won't have enough time before installation, but this is the only way Kelly lives and I still get all loyalties. Point being does anyone know how I can bring Legoin to Tali's loyalty mission and get his loyalty mission done before the IFF is installed and I get screwed. I know it's not necessary to bring Legion to Tali's loyalty mission, but I want to do it all the same, for the extra dialogue.

I`ve finished the game 2 times and the first time I was able to do every loyalty quest including Legion`s  The Second time I was told the Iff was installed before I could talk to Legion. I knew this would cause him to die, (I send him in the tunnels) So I re-loaded my last quick save and I huged the wall to the elvator. As long as I didn`t get to close to the star map, Edi wouldn`t tell me the Iff was ready so I could sneek to Legion, start his loyalty mission and that would overide the Iff is ready message. After I could do the Iff instalation normaly.

 I hope it helps

Aww, I remember back when we didn't know any of the formulas or who does what right or how to keep mysterious dying Mordin alive. That was fun. Not as much mystery anymore.

You're right, langelog. You can't complete Tali's loyalty and Legion's loyalty after getting Legion without losing half the crew. It's actually sort of disappointing- Legion has tons of lines all over the game that are amusing, but most people will never see them because you get Legion so late. I believe Tali's loyalty mission can be done after you save the galaxy, though, if I'm not mistaken. So technically you could leave her unloyal (use Legion for vents, and use a combination of loyal Kasumi, Mordin, and Jack on the final boss and escort leaving Tali with the big guys holding the line) and catch her after that with Legion. I think.

Thanks, I'll have to try this, and thanks to coffeemugjeff, I'll have to bust out my stealth skills and sneak down to the AI Core without EDI noticingPosted Image lol thanks again.

How would Grunt and Samara be good squad leaders? Samara is a Justicar, she is ALWAYS fighting alone. She wouldn't have the slightest concept of effective squad tactics. Grunt is a little more possible because of potential knowledge instilled by Okeer, but even so, he's very individual and gung-ho in battle, which are NOT qualities you want in a squad leader.

I did put them in the Middle category. Which essentially meant they wouldn't be a total disaster (e.g. they die right off the bat or get everyone else killed).

Samara is pretty freakin old, so she has experience as a non-Justicar and was a merc at one point. So experience in squad matters wouldn't surprise me. If Grunt is loyal to Shepard , I could see his gung-ho ness getting people through.

Thats funny, as Gung-Ho is actually chinese for 'team work'.   [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/lol.png[/smilie]

if you send Mordin back with the crew then he'll live. i've done it three times and he hasn't died once. Also, make sure he's loyal.

I've done the game three times with three very different Shepards with different choice variations and every time I have saved every crew member including Kelly, all of the squad members including Mordin and had a loyal Legion.

First playthrough: Earthborn Sole-Survivor Soldier Male Paragon Shepard.
First team leader: Garrus
Tech specialist: Legion
Second team leader: Garrus
Biotic specialist: Samara
Crew escort: Jacob
Final two squad members (plus during every in between sequence): Jack and Miranda.
Holding the line: Zaeed, Thane, Mordin, Grunt, Garrus, Samara, Tali, Legion
Everyone full loyalty

Second playthrough: Colonist War-Hero Vanguard Female Paragon Shepard
First team leader: Garrus
Tech specialist: Tali
Second team leader: Miranda
Biotic specialist: Jack
Crew escort: Zaeed
Final two squad members: Samara and Thane
Holding the line: Thane, Mordin, Grunt, Garrus, Tali, Legion, Jack, Jacob
Everyone full loyalty
During the in-between sequences I picked a mix of different squaddies to accompany me.

Third playthrough: Spacer Ruthless Sentinel Male Paragade Shepard
First team leader: Garrus
Tech specialist: Kasumi (first time in game)
Second team leader: Miranda
Biotic specialist: Samara
Crew escort: Thane
Final two squad members: Kasumi and Jacob
Holding the line: Mordin, Grunt, Garrus, Tali, Legion, Jack, Zaeed, Samara and Miranda (so this time there was an extra person there!)
All loyal EXCEPT Zaeed (I couldn't get Zaeed loyal because I didn't have enough paragon points as this time I was playing both paragon and renegade choices)
During the in-between sequences I picked a mix of different squaddies to accompany me.

During all playthroughs, I also make sure that all the squad members were skilled up with various level 4 evolutions to their skills. I think the first playthrough I chose all defensive evolutions giving them all extra health and defense bonuses. Second and third time I think I mixed it up a bit and did some offensive ones too. I'm sure that helps their Hold the Line scores.

Also I made sure I upgraded everything - every squad upgrade bonus and special weapons e.g. Mordin's special omni-tool and Jacks amp upgrade - I'm sure those help their Hold the Line scores.

I also read through some of the skill descriptions and it sounds like Miranda's Cerberus Leader skill gives whoever she's with a defense/health bonus.

I've had Mordin holding the line each time and surviving.

Analysing the choices for each specialist my faves are:

Squad leaders: Miranda and Garrus - Miranda is a trained Cerberus leader with bonus protection and Garrus has experience with you from ME1 and leading his own Archangel team. So I didn't feel confident using anyone else, although I may give Jacob a chance in a future playthrough (with his Cerberus soldier and alliance training experience). The good choice of leader is what prevents the tech specialist getting blasted in the head during the frantic door closing (I've never had it myself, but I've seen people mention it).

Techs in the vent: Legion, Tali and Kasumi - Legion as a synthetic is best for hacking stuff and can probably stand hot vents well, Tali is a techno genius and her suit probably stands up well in vents, and Kasumi was excellent at getting through locked doors as well.

Biotic specialist: While Miranda claims any biotic can do the bubble, my gut instinct was that only Jack and Samara had the power to do it well, as their background stories and loyalty missions emphasise.

Crew escort: I don't have any particular favourites. So far, it seems like anyone can do it. All three times I've picked a loyal person though, just in case.

I'd like to add that my first playthrough was before coming to these forums, so getting the mega-happy ending first time I played ME2 was so awesome! The second and third playthroughs, I don't think my choices were influenced that much by other people's claims of "You must use this person" or "send your squishies away!". I just went with common sense choices based on my impressions of their characters. I've been open to switching them up on my subsequent playthroughs, because it's interesting to see the different conversation options.

Please someone help.

Done everything.

Explored 100%

All primary and secondary missions done.

All upgrades researched, everything to be bought i purchased.

in the last mission the team i left behind to hold the line , someone always dies randomly from that team.

I have tried many combination and i end up loosing one team member.

My latest attempt was to send mordin with the crew. he makes it with all the crew alive

I pick up tali and jack for the Boss but still someone dies from the other team. usually it is Garrus

Side note: i remain loyal to Ash, but i don't think this is the one affecting the outcome.
