Velanna disapproves -10 ;)

But seriously, could be an interesting character. The trailer is too short to really judge her.

Mah, not nearly enough to even start to judge the character, but I can say that was a pretty damn poor trailer.

This. Would someone PLEASE explain to me what the hell was going on?

Something about MERCHANT KIDNAPPERS! But she thinks she can tangle with a Grey Warden... lol... cmon...

Also where is the warrior woman everyone wants? I'm sick of women being frail waiflike mages or rogues... Give us a tough plate armor wearing chick in the vein of Ser Cauthrien! Except not a complete tool!

I have to agree with this. Based on what I saw in that trailer, it's going to require a lot for me to spare her life. People who summon trees to beat up me and my friends are trouble. Angry female mages are trouble. With Anders as another possible mage companion (who reminds me of myself based on what I saw) it's very likely Velanna's gonna end up headless.

Bioware's probably gonna surprise me though. I bet something will happen and I'll take her along just because I'm nice like that. Then she'll tell me about some sweet ritual she knows about and I'll collapse crying before finally killing myself.

Hmm...another mage. I also wonder if Velanna is the new mage specialization. Given that she seems to be somehow tied to nature effects.

A good point Stompi, but first impressions are vital.

Anders is the funny Mage in Awakenings. Alistair was the funny Templar in Origins.

Morrigan was the bitter witch in the wilds. Velanna is the angry witch in the wilds.

[Same Hair Style Set Bonus]

Awakening is looking a liiiiittle like a rip off of Origins.

Also notice how we get two mage companions this time around? Just like Origins! [XD Not that I'm complaining about MAGES of all things...]

It's almost as if it were expanding on the original game with a tried and trusted formula.

Um yeah, so was I supposed to get interested in the character by that trailer? For the whopping .8 seconds we saw her and her 7 words. My interest has never been higher.

That was oddly short. A burst of angry yelling and some magical effects.

hehe that was Valena.  I thought the same thing - i ignored it as being born on valentines day tends to make you see the "val" in anything.  ( I tend to avoid it for the same reason! ha!)    It's sick really. lol  I guess they really like the name asthere are quite a few vals ingame

Hi, my name's Valadras, my friends call me Val, pleased to meet you Image IPB

heh you are evil I tells ya, evil!    Pleased to meet you  :P

Too little there to actually drawn any conclusions. If we had a pre-release trailer of Alistair losing his temper at landsmeet, we wouldn't have a very accurate idea of what it was like to have him in the party. That being said, if she has that level of chip on her shoulder all the time, however justified, my PC isn't going to enjoy her company much. Doesn't mean she won't be interesting. While Morrigan became more likable, she was never warm and fuzzy, and she was a very interesting character. You don't have to like the people under your command, though. You just have to be able to point them at the enemy effectively. It was nice to be able to come back to camp after a particularly crappy day and talk to Alistair, though. My warden might feel a whole lot more isolated on this mission.

The trailer is regrettably short, but I like that she is a Dalish Mage, and I really hope that this could become another available specialization. My Elf Mage always dreamed about learning the old magick of yore, and what better time than after becoming leader of the Grey Wardens? :D

All in all, even if the trailer is too short to judge the character, I really like the potential!

Seems interesting.

So, Velanna's some kind of Druid then? Methinks we've got ourselves a magical Ranger specialization (although isn't that basically what the Shapeshifter is?). Summon Wild Sylvan is for sure... not sure about the others. Hopefully there's a bit of uniqueness with the class.

My plan? Romance me some Elf booty, then teach the Druid spec to Anders. That leaves me with my Arcane Warrior/Blood Mage, Andy, Oghren and someone else.

Hopefully there's some cool Rogues to choose from.

After seeing both character reveals I thought to my self "they seem like B-rated actors or bench warmers"

She doesn't look so interesting but a fellow dalish would be good for my warden :)

I have question marks floating above my head.

She looks like the lovechild of Wynne and Morrigan... However! If BioWare have any sort of sense then it'll be 2 rogues and 2 warriors to go!

I have to say, based on what little I've seen thus far, I think I prefer Velanna to Anders.

I am, I already hate her.
This is also probably because I'm tired of mages and hate them.

I like the pissed off elf. It reminds me how I imagined my first char felt, (female city elf) "You killed my friend and raped my cousin you brought this on yourself" As she got the dual wield decapitation killing blow on Vaughn.

And to those doing the whole she is morrigan thing, well they did say most of the companions would seem like the old ones when you first encounter them till you got to know them.

Ha! I knew since the first video that she was going to be a companion, although she is a bit scarier than I thought she would be.

The first thing I'm doing when Awakening is released is to replace her hair with a mod

I think shes stupid and shallow. I want Leliana back.

that's funny, Lelianna is one of the stupidest and most shallow characters I've ever seen in a Bioware game.
This character actually seems like my elf could relate to her.

And I can finally use the pickup line "Hey baby! Want to kill all humans?"

You didn't take that seriously right? If you did then you took it the completely wrong way and need to reread the entire post.
