Is that soundtrack in the end really from Lord of the Rings or is it just very similar? If yes, then which track is it?

Oh, but I digress, we should speak of this new character, yeah, great new spell, trees come alive! Other than that, it's too short to say anything. How long was Anders' trailer?

A good point Stompi, but first impressions are vital.

Anders is the funny Mage in Awakenings. Alistair was the funny Templar in Origins.

Morrigan was the bitter witch in the wilds. Velanna is the angry witch in the wilds.
[Same Hair Style Set Bonus]
Awakening is looking a liiiiittle like a rip off of Origins.
Also notice how we get two mage companions this time around? Just like Origins! [XD Not that I'm complaining about MAGES of all things...]

If you would read some interview, they say specifically some character might appear like Origins companions but are really different. I mean does Anders really seem he would be anywhere near as whiny as Alistair? Of course not, he is defiantly a sarcastic comedy relief like Alistair, but more with a harsh smart a** undertone. Plus, Alistair was more of a man of the law, so to speak, and Anders clearly isn't.

As for Velanna, she was raised with a hatred of humans. She is "risking", though she seems to be in total control, her life for her sister and friends' revenge...Morrigan didn't even have any sort of friendship until the Warden came along and even then it was fleeting. Her hatred will probably be her dominant personality until you bed/friend her. Morrigan was always focused on power/survival and was more open to ideas for personal benefit and scorned ideas which confine. Her knowledge of magic defiantly goes beyond that of the Circle like Morrigan's though. But the main difference is their upbringing. How could you even manufacture another character like Morrigan? She was raised by a f***ing abomination. Velanna =/= Morrigan, not in a thousand years.

Big differences and I am drawing all this information from a video clip which people thought was too short and were unable to say anything about her because of it

Honestly, Anders was only 5 seconds longer. There was alot more building up to Velanna though with the guy running away from her

Heh... the trailer is definitely to short for me to judge the character in any way.

One thing though? I dislike the hair-recycling as well.
I wouldn't really comment about it if it they were about reusing the hairoptions that we already had in the first game, but Duncan and Morrigan were absolutely unique in their whole design, and I loved it. Reusing parts of this unique design simply tones down the appearance of the new character for which it is used. They look.. well.. recycled.

Anyway.. looking forward to the next trailer/news

Question is: Will there be a new race/class/spells. I presume they might add these, since we are beginning to see new spell animations and effects. I definitely like the Ents.

yeah I love to see the lore and description behind them too. I hope there are dark elves, or a werewolf you can play as a side character, that be cool

She has the same haircut as Morrigan = fail
She has the same hair colors as Anders = fail

Can't you make her look like the spririt of the forest with long hair and black or brown ? so she will look like a bit more as a original character -_-"

SEE I WAS RIGHT, I predicted that she would be the next female mage character and she could control tree's......

all those people saying she attacked the sylvans in the first awakening trailer and that she was a NPC, IN YOUR FACE! / rant

Don't like her personality and looks, though controlling tree's would be awesome... I have to see more of her to know for sure.....and.....are Anders and Valenna using the same robes?

On the subject of nature mages....> that's awesome, it has been my favorite spell options in the game...

So ironic that the same day I lament there being no romanceable female elves for my male elf warden we get this trailer.

Yet I’m not feeling really warm and fuzzy about Velanna.

* First impression is that she’s another mentally unstable type. Where are the stable women in this game outside of Wynne and the short appearance by Teyrna Eleanor Couslad?

* That outfit ... I realize that it’s supposed to be sexy, but the way it defies gravity, especially in the opening of the trailer, bothers me. It’s like they tried to put a big “LOOK HERE” sign right on her lady parts.

* I’m worried about the voicing. Yes, she’s angry when speaking her opening lines, and there is hope that things will be better when she’s speaking calmly, but that angry voice … It makes me want to avoid hearing it as much as possible.

On the positive side, the hair bothers me not at all. I like the summoning and magic effects that I’m seeing. I like that we have such different choices in potential mage companions.

I don't think I've seen this many people work themselves into such a tizzy over hair since Wigstock.  Bizarre.

In general, it seems people's expectations for these teasers (they're not really trailers, after all) are waaaay too high.  I mean, how much of a sense for the original DA:O characters could you get in 30 seconds?  It's pretty safe to assume that Anders and Velanna and whoever is on deck are just as likely to be a little more complex than their generic description, which is about all that's revealed at this point.  And really, would you want more revealed now?  Isn't figuring everybody out half the fun?

I like the idea of a hostile Dalish mage and a wisecracking Circle run-away.  These seem like interesting jumping-off points for new, different characters, whatever overt similarities we might find to our former companions on the basis of the tiny bit we've seen.

hardvice makes a good point. Though I think teh issue with the hair is that the style was uniquely Morrigan's. If she'd had one of the other hairstyles I doubt there'd be this more furore over it, though then people would be like 'O.M.G. Her hair is like so totally bland, y'know'. Well, maybe not exactly like that, but you get the picture.

I am going to reserve judgement, particularly as I went back and watched all the original Origins NPC trailers, and therefore realise that 'advertised' does not necessarily bear clsoe correlation to actuality. I still think that if I'd watched the Origins main trailer prior to playing the game I'd never have bought it.

The trailers are short, but they are ment to get people interested. And seeing people's responses, at least the second one didn't do that great a job. After all, this is their forum, an audience that actually wants to be interested in the trailer. Many of us have pre-ordered after all.

As for different characters, that's not what I got from those teasers.
What I saw was Bioware saying "We know a large number of people really loved Alistair, but the way the story is written he can't simply become a recruitable character. Since people don't understand that and we do not want to dissappoint them, here have Anders. He is not a wise-cracking nearly/ex-Templar, but a wise-cracking Apostate. And for those who made all the Alistair-hate threads, he is less of a whiner and much more bad-boy."
Then comes the second teaser and they say "We know a lot of you want to see Morrigan again, but get real. There is no way she could be in your party. Especially if you agreed to her deal. And we know a lot of people wanted to see more of the dalish and their magic. So rejoice people: an angry, pointy eared Morrigan lookalike with bleached hair and dalish magic!"

I know, I'm cranky. I get that way, though I try to control it.

She seems to be interesting. Can't give an honest opioion of her until I play awakening or until more trailers come out describing her. Hopefully the next trailer would be a female warrior named Penelope. . . it would be somewhat humiliating getting beat up by a girl by that name. lol. no offense meant by that.

I'm so torn about this!  On one hand, I know I have not seen enough to judge properly. And yet on the other, more after the release of Velanna teaser than Anders though, I have been getting a bit of queasy feeling as there *are* definite similarities.  Whether those similarities play out to be formulaic attempts to recreate what worked so well in the original or not, only time will tell.
From an advertising standpoint, the Anders one was pretty good for what the character seems to be, I was underwhelmed with the second one, as the Children trailer.  I take my own opinion with a grain of salt however as my training and work experience *was* in the creative side of advertising so I may be a bit biased. :police:

Basically, my comment on this is semi-restrained by the fact it is fairly early on and the teasers did not really say much....but *if* ...IF they are being formulaic, replacing character traits and therefore characters with a formula that worked *so well*  in the original...that is a slippery slope to tread.  Would be far far safer to simply give people expanded experiences with the characters they know and love already.  I suspect they weren`t willing or able to hire or afford the voice actors for such small parts.   Still, i am trying to reserve judgement and wait and see what happens.  Perhaps it is nothing like it seems.  Or more than what it seems.  *shrug*  I hope so, because the original game was too good to have it become a parody of itself out of seeming necessity.

*fingers crossed*

I too find it amazing that some people get so worked up over the characters having the same hair-style. Having Morrigan's unique hair-style may just mean that that hair-style is unique to the times. Remember the Farrah Fawcet probably not (dating myself here...lol) how about more recently the Jennifer Anniston c,mon guys it just a hair-style.

I don't mind that Velanna is angry I never felt that Morrigan was angry I found her to be more indifferent than anything. Morrigan was only concerned about her welfare and power where as Velanna obviously shows passion for the welfare of those she cares about. Bring them on-I for one can't wait.

I think she would be Zevran, you can have option to kill her or let her join you. Because there will be a certain fight with her and her trees :)

It would be less annoying if they hadn't reused it on another mage companion.
Companions should be as unique as possible. Using the same mesh in such a small group of characters, that just is a bad design choice. Because it is bound to stand out - just as it has.
If Velanna wasn't an elf but a human, with that hair, she'd simply have been a recoloured version of Morrigan.
Companions are not just npcs. They stand out. The player builds a relationship (and I don't mean romantic) to these characters far deeper than most other npcs.
Choices like this are not even lazy.
We can't judge a companion until we have truly interacted with him/her. Zevran proves that quite well I think.
But it's the devs' job to give us enough for us to actually want to know more.
And having a the new witch companion have the "unique" appearance of the previous witch companion, is not the way to do it. It's as if a teenager tells you he is wearing black and listening to metal because he is a unique individual unlike the masses and rebels against the status quo.

Of course, the amound of people saying they aren't bothered, proves that it's just hair.
On the other hand, the amound of people who are bothered, show that it was a silly thing that could have so easily been avoided.

I feel that if they want to stand by their claim that there will be unique companions in awakening, equal to the depth the origin ones had, they should have avoided this kind of recycling.

What'd you expect, a stable, sane female romace option? Talk about unrealistic :)

Truthfully though I could really dig one of those, unless she just got dropped due to cash concerns in future content.  Then I'd cry.

Agreed with the above post.(melkathi)

They chose to recycle the hair of Duncan and Morrigan of all people. Those were the only 2 characters that had their unique looks(the hair, the clothing etc). It made them stand out from the rest and rightfully so, being such important characters and all.
