I don't mind that Velanna is angry I never felt that Morrigan was angry I found her to be more indifferent than anything. Morrigan was only concerned about her welfare and power where as Velanna obviously shows passion for the welfare of those she cares about. Bring them on-I for one can't wait.

Exactly.  Morrigan wasn't really angry so much as "coldly unpleasant" -- at least at first.  And then she warmed up a bit as you got to know her.

And I'd expect the same with Velanna (whose name my brain keeps auto-correcting to Valena for some reason): of course she's angry in this clip -- she appears to be in the middle of a revenge killing, so it would be kind of dumb if she was all unicorns and rainbows.  I expect she'll have something of a chip on her shoulders throughout the game, but I'm sure she won't be one-note angry all the time.  This is BioWare, after all; their characters are rarely simple, except maybe Dog.

But yes, even if her general mood throughout is angry-ish, that's still new.

Waits for bad jokes about Velanna liking wood.

Seriously if she says anying in game about the male Warden's "mighty oak" I'm going to be ill. :)

I can't believe all the negativity about such a short clip. Have some faith! I for one am looking forward to meeting her character. I wouldn't want to know too much about her before I play anyway.

They chose to recycle the hair of Duncan and Morrigan of all people. Those were the only 2 characters that had their unique looks(the hair, the clothing etc). It made them stand out from the rest and rightfully so, being such important characters and all.

But it's still just hair.  I mean, Alistair's pretty dreadfully important, too, and every third person you meet has his $10 Supercuts fratboy hair.  Anora's the freakin' queen, and you can't throw a dirty pair of pantaloons without hitting three noblewomen with the same hairdo.

I just can't get worked up about them reusing assets, particularly of characters who almost certainly won't be appearing in the expansion.  If you had Velanna and Morrigan in your party at the same time, it might be an issue.  Otherwise, it's hard for me to fathom that Morrigan is somehow the only person on Thedas to ever think of sticking a chopstick in her hair.

Velanna == Morrigan #2 (visually, at least, so my first impression of her is "she sucks").

Thank the Maker we have Anders for our mage-related needs :-)

This is awesome! My MHN may have another angry lass mage to romance, since the last one scampered away with his child.

We can't tell for sure, but hopefully she's as powerful as Morrigan.

That is not the point. Re-using the hairstyles that were supposed to be unique it's a step backwards. And not just any hairstyles, the modules of Duncan and Morrigan of all things. Wasn't Morrigan supposed to be the poster girl? The dark character that symbolizes the DA franchise? Way to make her unique.
What will we see next? Farmers running around in Duncan's armor? Mages wearing Morrigan's robes?

DAO was in development for like what? five years? Can't they just design 2 new hairstyles? How long with that take?

I see your point about Alistair and Anora and I truly believe that them too deserve a unique look. But that doesn't make it an excuse to -sort_of_remove- the uniqueness of Morrigan and Duncan.

I never thought Morrigan's hairstyle was what made her unique, personally. <_<

Points well taken melkathi and blademaster. I took Bioware saying that these characters being unique to mean that their backstories, development and personalities would be different from what we have previously seen.

IMO hair-styles just reflect the current trends in Fereldan. Just because we did not see anyone else with Duncan's hair doesn't mean that it's not in style. For that matter whose to say Anders didn't see Duncan when he was at the Circle recruiting and say hey he's a pretty bad a** dude I'm going to put my hair in a pony tail too. Same could be true for Morrigan and Velanna as well.

Like I said I am very much looking forward to the expansion, having had such a great time playing DA:O!

Ah the "have some faith" argument.
I hate it :)
Someday someone has to explain it to me.
Why should I have faith?
Bioware creates a product. I buy the product and enjoy it imensely.
Now they create a new product. And obviously they want all their customers to be returning customers. So they give us teaser information. What it is is a kind of advertisment. It's supposed to get us to pre-order or at least purchase their new product when it hits the stores. It is meant to give us the information that will make us want to give Bioware our money. A consumer should never view advertisement with "faith".

Also... you know how it is when you see a movie trailer, then go watch the movie and realize that all the good bits you had already seen, because they had been in the trailer? That's what trailers are all about; show you good bits to make you want to see more. So simple realism says: if you aren't impressed by a trailer, don't expect too much of the finished product.

Wow, guys, you're as hard to please as we Mass Effect fans are! What's wrong with keeping old hairstyles? I'm just glad they're continuing the DA series.

@ Melkathi, one should never judge too much by a trailer from Bioware. No offense, and this is just my silly opinion, so please feel free to ignore it: the company's marketing is not so hot. If I haven't already loved JE, KotOR and ME, I would never have bought ME2 or DA based on their strange ways of marketing.

Oghren's hair is also unique. Not really trying to make a point, just making a side note.

Eh, Melkathi, I just don't see what's so negative in this trailer. Of course you can choose to spend your money however you please, and if you don't have faith that Bioware is going to make a decent expansion, save your money. I personally think it is going to be great, and have seen nothing to change that opinion in these trailers. *shrug*

What if they are trying to tell us those hairstyles will be available for character creation in the expansion? Will that make you guys happy or raging?

I have faith because every bioware game gives me a great new cast of characters. From BG2 onward this has been the case.

The origin character trailers SUCKED, and I loved all the companions. Subject Zero and Grunt's trailers... mah... but I loved them.

Like I said, I have faith because I've seen this stupid argument and reaction time and time and time agian on these forums and in the end people end up liking the new characters and then it repeats. It gets old.

That's probably true.
Though with the Sacred Ashes trailer, Bioware had seriously surprised me with their Dragon Age advertising.
I didn't like MassEffect, though I try to play through it because what I have sen and heard of ME2, the second part seems like something I would enjoy.

Don't tell anyone, but I've pre-ordered a while back so I too am bying this. But: Shhhhhh. If the devs find out they might not take my crankyness seriously ;)

See, for me, giving those hairstyles to players would be awesome. I only mind that they gave the witch companion hair to the new witch companion. And that they removed Morrigan from poster girl goddess...

I get the feeling we will not be disappointed. Having six companions to choose from for our party I'm sure everyone will be able to build a group to their liking.

Man that clip was short on ol' Val! Who cares if one chick's hair is reused? I mean if we get to keep playing our characters and the STORY ends up awesome, then.......... I mean............. um folks? What we have to go on is that Bioware makes awesome games with rich stories and generally pretty awesome character development. And DAO is totally awesome so we'll be just fine.

She seems interesting, people call her angry but if you listen to the trailer someone kidnapped her sister and killed someone else apparantly important to her... I remember my city elf rogue being just as angry in the city elf origins story, but after painting some walls with blood he calmed down quite a bit later... :)

Also like the suit she's wearing like a sexy version of the standard keeper clothing! :)

I agree tho that its a bit sad that they recycled Morrigans hair, on the upside they at least changed the colour. I would love to see them change the hairstyle to either something plain or something unique for this character and leave Morrigans style for Morrigan... If they don't well I'm just going to have to pretend that its blond and nothing like Morrigan...
