Quarians aren't anything like gypsies.

The second I saw the first quarian ever (tali) everything about them SCREAMED gypsy

They are migrant, artistic, and love dancing. They are disliked by most stationary races. they have a distinct unity to each other based on the groups they travel with, and their religious/cultural recitations are basically word-for word the english translations of hebrew text. they. are. space gypsies.

... but Jews aren't gypsies...

Right, so every member of one of the various races and ethnic groups of this wonderfully varied planet all have the same interests, aptitudes and values...

I knew a Jewish girl once who was hopeless at finances. She had to get her blonde friend to help her.

Stereotypes are not your friend.

My point was that Jewish people are in most professional fields.

I know, it just seems ironic that you immediately pulled two more stereotypes to argue against another.

Wasn't aware there was a Jewish Doctor or Jewish Lawyer stereotype.

Yeah, I kinda got a "stereotypical Jew" vibe from the Volus. Then again, I'm probably just racist and/or read the Merchant of Venice one too many times

Except for the migrant part, dancing and stationary population dislike, every part of that is no. Gypsy music is anything but "artistic", and they have no other artforms to speak of. The distinct unity in gypsies only happens irl because they usually have immense amounts of (illigetimally obtained, see our grand europarlament representative - George Becali) money, much more than most people in this country, which they use to buy insanely expensive clothes and cars. They also have an amazing tendancy to make their own (unauthorized) cities on state teritorry without running water or sewage. The houses themselves, on the other hand, are usually huge and nearly palace-like in luxury.
Damned typos.

I've never seen the Salarians as being similar to any human ethnicity, like at all... don't know where anyone got "asian" from.

It's better to compare the alien races to certain cultures rather than human races. I still stand that Quarians are akin to the gypsies (not of the modern day) but of the past. Wanderers looking for a home.

Krogans are like the barbarian tribes of various cultures.

Turians are like the militant cultures, Sparta is a good comparison actually.

Not really.  Sparta was probably the most advanced democratic environment within ancient Greece (and Europe), and the ONLY one who gave women an equal say.

Or to put it bluntly, they were way ahead of their time in many of their views.  Krogan are much more similar to the barbarian hordes (and even used the same tactics before the Genophage.)

d'oh!  It was a joke because of the I am Sparta line... *sigh*

I always kind of imagined the Turians kind of like an older asian culture, like maybe a dynasty? They seem too have a tough military doctrine and a strong sense of honor and obligation to their people.

Turians always gave me a pretty "Rome" vibe. I mean the names, the meritocratic society... a dev said that "Palaven," their home planet, was named after the Palatine Hill as well.

That's okay, are you a sexual deviant with ready access to gold? You can still be part of the stereotype party.

Wait, he also needs to have an obsession with carving slabs of meat out of the chests of gentiles.

EDIT: and the ability to shapeshift into cockroaches or other such creature.

I defy every stereotype ever. I'm Jewish/Asian, and I am good at sports. I also have a terribly large penis.

In seriousness, you can't compare an ENTIRE mass effect alien race to any one group of human cultures. It would make sense if every alien race were as diverse and different as humans are from each other.

This actually got me to register my version of mass effect 2 just to answer. So, a nation where two kings ruled and basicly where a majority of the nation consisted of slaves who could be whacked at will (good ol' helots) strikes you as the most democratic enviroment around at that? Hell, even the Athenians were moderately better than that.

Edit: Krogans are totally walking space worms.
