I blew it up based mainly on the fact that it seems like whoever touches anything remotely related to Reapers is screwed.

You are just asking for a horror story it seems. That was my logic at least...

you keep it. why destroy it. ive heard some of our best surgical advances came from the mother ****ing **** sucker doctor at a concentration camp during the hollocaust. you use the knowledge you gain however you get it. it can help for the future no matter how wrong it actually was. same reason i kept the rachni queen alive. maybe theres a way to do some *good* with the technology.

I kept the base my first time through (was playing paragon even) as I thought the greater good was more important then my mistrust of cerberus. However, as mentioned by others, after talking with Legion it reminded me the the reapers want us to use their tech because then they know exactly how to defeat us.

The Turian super cannon is inspired by reaper tech, but is not a direct copy.

Also, after giving it some additional thought, TIM is not above the idea of trying to create his own fleet of reapers to fight for humanity. That's just bad mojo.

Reloaded and blew it to hell :D

The Reapers want you to use the tech they left behind, not to *understand* their tech. Not the same thing. Using mass relays without understanding them makes you predictable for the Reapers. Advancing to the point where you can actually reverse engineer their tech and use it to develop weapons that are actually a threat to them? Not part of their plan. When species start to get near being capable of that, they get Reaped, but Shepard screwed that plan up.

Sovereign says that one of the intentions of leaving the mass relays behind is to encourage organics to develop along certain lines, "To impose order on the chaos of organic evolution" as he puts it.  So, actually they do want you to learn the tech, after all most ships and weapons use mass effect in order to function (and I'm not just talking about the relays, humanity knows enough about mass effect to develop their own FTL engines as does most other races, it just isn't as fast as the relays, and the guns use the mass effect to fire).  It would probably be more threatening to them if a species developed their own tech based on something the reapers couldn't understand because they are blind to the other paths of technology themselves.

You're giving a weapon to a terrorist organization which professes Human dominance in the universe over other races by any means. Furthermore, the weapon is fueled by LIQUEFYING SENTIENT BEINGS.

Need any more explanation about why it's considered the "bad" choice?

I would blow up the place. That place if used for something that should not be allowed to potentially continue. I would have liked, however, a tech specialist to gather what information he could on reaper armor/weapons/shields and general schematics. I could have used these to look for weak points in their structures and try to prepare ships for the fight against them. We wouldn't need to use quite the same tech, but something we made that works just as well if not better. Regardless, I would always destroy the facility.

Well, it all depends on your point of view.

Some of my Sheps thought -
It'd be crazy to waste all that tech, why sacrafice all those people for nothing? Blowing it up is wrong and dishonouring those that died.

My other Sheps thought it was an abomination and it should be destroyed because the methods used to gain that tech is just too evil and nasty. To use the tech would be to ignore all those that died and dishonour their memory.

Well.. EDI did just that.. collected data.. We will find more about that in ME3 :)

If giant aliens were threatening to wipe humanity in the1940's out of existance and HItler was the only option to save us then Yes I might just delay WW2 until the whole extinction threat is out of the way.

Some of these common themes ought to get a sticky thread. "Discuss the final choice in ME2" Or somesuch. It would help avoid forum clutter.

The only ones we know of who actually understood the Reapers' mass relays well enough to build their own were the Protheans. The Conduit they built is the only reason higher organic life still exists in non-slurpee form in the Mass Effect universe. I think it's safe to say that wasn't part of the Reaper masterplan. I think Caz has a good point about the difference between using and understanding Reaper tech.

Because if you keep the base intact TIM will make a Krogan reaper, and no one wants that.

Do you guys not understand the concept of a galatic holocaust.  I find it Ironic with people comparing TIM to Hitler in that everybody arguing against keeping the base seems to think that there is something more important than preventing galactic wide genocide.

I think some people are forgetting here that TIM will most likely use the Reaper Tech after the invasion is over to make Humanity take over all the other races but not for even Humanity(Which IMO, would still be pretty bad.), instead for Cerberus.

Does EDI actually collect data on the Reapers from the Collector Base? If so I might consider blowing up the base.

Otherwise I just kept the base, better to know all we can about the Reapers and their strengths. As far as indoctrination is concerned I don't think that is likely, the only Reaper physically on the base was destroyed and it was only a half formed fetus.

Keeping the base to give to TIM is like if America handed over a nuke to Al-Queda and then asked politely please don't use this for your own means. You just are supposed to study it but not use it as a weapon. Thanks Osama for understanding.

But if Al-Queda were to use it on a species threatening to wipe humans out of existance?

Correct. Bioware's writers must have read the Hyperion Saga because organic civilizations relationship with Reaper tech (Mass Relays) is similar to how the Data Core controls space travel in the Hyperion Universe. In the Hyperion Universe humans don't understand the tech they're using because it was developed by the Data Core.

The Protheans were the only ones that we know who understood Mass Relay technology enough to put a hitch in the Reaper plans. If the organics in the ME universe trully understood Mass Relays the Repaers would have been held back or stopped long before Shepard ever existed imo.

Keeping the Collector Base would allow Ceberus to go one better than the Protheans, they could actually disassemble the Reaper threat as a whole, find weaknesses and maximize on the strengths of their technology.
