I don't get it...

Seriously I don't think I've ever had a problem with Paragon/Renegade dialogue options in ME2. I don't think I've ever encountered a scenario in the game where I didn't have at least the one of the options. Heck lot of the time I usually have both options available and I tend to play mostly Paragon.

Have you ever played the ME2 default game or a NG+? If so, do you tend to stick strongly to one morality versus the other? If not, that's very likely why you've never had an issue with it.

I'll admit I've never done a NG+ mostly cause I don't see the point. But why wouldn't you stick to one morality or the other? You really can't play a neutral Shepard.

Even in ME1 this would be difficult cause you have to invest in both Charm/Intimidate at the loss of other combat abilities.

You either play mostly Paragon or mostly Renegade. That's just kind of how the game is. I mean I guess you can try and play a really neutral Character, but the price of that is you are less effective/charismatic leader. It's not like you can't beat the game playing Neutral. You just won't be able to save everyone you run into. You gotta make choices. If you waffle too much between ideals well... yeah. Kind of makes a character a poor leader.

Yeah, I've had this problem. But it...oddly enough...only happens between Legion and Tali for me. I can resolve the dispute between Jack and Miranda fine with my Renegade. Even on a NG +. Hell, I can even tackle Samara's mission, and get to intimidate Morinth all the way. Get 100% Renegade, always choosing Renegade options...and then I can't intimidate on the Legion and Tali dispute.

The biggest curve ball this hurls me is this: My Paragon does NOT have this issue. Ever. Never. She can ALWAYS charm all the situations. My Renegade can't intimidate the Tali and Legion dispute, but handles everything else just fine. Guess it's a trade off, my Paragon can't make it through the suicide mission without at least one person croaking, whereas my Renegade has never lost anyone. I'm so confused.

It's because the Jack/Miranda fight is supposed to be easier to resolve as a renegade while Legion/Tali is supposed to be easier to resolve as a paragon. Also, you don't need everyone's loyalty to make it through the suicide mission, you just have to make the right choices.

Bioware developer Kim Stolz described the process awhile ago, and I recently collected that information in a thread here.

I also wrote what you needed for a guaranteed 100% survival rate on a suicide mission on my blog here. It's a little more detailed than the thread that's stickied on the forum.

Wow...uh...gee...now I feel stupid. I hadn't even considered that. I have no problem with survival rate...just my Paragon loses 1 person every time despite the fact that I make all the right choices.(Always choose Miranda/Garrus to lead, even though supposedly Jacob works too, I don't like him. Always send Mordin to escort the crew back to the Normandy, and always use either Legion or Tali to go through the vents.)

Here's my issue. No one dies on the way there. Nobody. I can still choose everyone(except Mordin cause I send him back and he lives). But after the final fight, when Shepard asks if everyone made it back...one random person is always dead. But it only happens with my Paragon. It has never happened with my Renegade. It's very confusing because I do everything right. Last time it was Kasumi, before that it was Tali. So I don't know what I'm doing with my Paragon that kills that one person that I'm not doing with my Renegade, but it's something.

Don't use an unloyal squadmate to go through the vents, escort, or take them to the final battle. You must leave two of the three big defenders (Garrus, Grunt, Zaeed) to hold the line as well. The part about holding the line is usually where people find they've lost a squadmate.
