Well, what do you guys think? Do you guys suspect those sylvans are spirits or demons (possible pointing to a bloodmage starting spec)? If you go to Youtube and search the video and look at the Anders/Velanna trailer, you see at 52s it appears she might be activating Blood Magic.

I feel like we got to know Anders alot more from his video than Velanna from her's. All I noticed was she is pissed off at every human because some guys killed her friends and kidnapped her sister. I am assuming she is an elf mage which grew up outside the Cirle her entire life. This video makes me think that she will join your group, but not become a Grey Warden. I am left wondering what might compel her to join the Wardens. Maybe her sister is killed and she has nothing left, sort of like how the Origins Warden is rescued and forced to go.

Also, there's the Warden, Anders and maybe the next  companion to be released. Looks like a rogue, but what kind who knows. I believe I have seen him fighting with daggers, but here he has a bow. Bioware just leaving us to wonder I guess.

I guess she has a new specialization... something like Druid or who knows whatever else it might be. At least, that's what I think.

But I guess we'll see soon enough, no?

I have nothing to really judge the character on... we learn pretty much nothing about her besides she's angry and controls trees (perhaps hinting a new druidish specialization?)

But i can say it was a pretty lame trailer. I like Ander's trailer, we get some good background info... but like I said, I still know next to nothing about Velanna.

yup looks like pissed-off-druid-ish to me too! Very-Morrigan-esque at first glance, but we know how dangerous though first impressions can be :)

Seems like an interesting character. Disappointing trailer though.

I can't believe they have made a white-hair Morrigan.

Seems like Mages will be getting a Keeper Mage ally. Yay at one of the specialisation almost definitely being confirmed to be druidic/elven magic. My elf mage will def. be happy to reclaim some of his people lost heritage. Im indifferent to the character so far.

The trailer was disappointing, and as others have said - you learn almost nothing about her from it other than her friends have been killed, her sister kidnapped, and she is one pissed off elf. First impression is a bit 'meh', but I'll reserve judgement fully until the game. I hope she gets a descriptive passage like Anders did, that might flesh her out a bit.

a little disappointed, we might as well play the guessing game who's hairmodel gets reused for the next companion

After this I'd laugh really hard if Oghren *was* actually a different dwarf who was given the same hairstyle.

Initial reaction: Mentally unstable, nature loving female mage. She even has Morrigan's hair! Great! Her voice is going to grate on my ears like nails on a chalkboard, I think. Gritting my teeth at the thought of taking a female companion anywhere in my party will bring back warm memories of the original campaign.

Still, could be worse. Morrigan could be back.

Sadly it does not seem unlikely.

EA must be cutting Bioware's budget real bad...

Just impossible to eveluate her from few seconds and scenes... Must wait for the game and see... BTW... happy to see the first new female companion :)

Oh, I'm actually looking forward to seeing Oghren again. I seem to be in a minority, though. I just hope that Velanna isn't as much like Morrigan as she appears. And her voice, as Harelda noted, will possibly make my ears bleed.

I thought at first they did say new specializations, but after researching I couldn't find that interview or article about it. Just something about new talents and spells. Maybe what I read was just about the expansion of the original specs. Can anyone link a confirmation about if there is new specializations or just the old ones with new talents/spells?

I like the idea of Oghren returning.

But Velanna, I would have prefered not seeing that trailer.

If we say we know 3 of the companions for awakening so far, Oghren, Anders and Velanna, Oghren is the only one that I am looking forward to.

Yes, but we can make cynical and jaded remarks based on the few seconds we have seen. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Besides, the trailer is supposed to show how utterly awesome she is and sell us the next expansion. If our initial reactions are "Meh" then it doesn't bode too well for how much we'll like the character.

...I'm still buying the expansion though. Even if Oghren is the returning character and I'm forced to take that Mage with me everywhere.

 Edit: For clarity.

Well if she's a Dalish Keeper/Keeper's Apprentice (or ex-apprentice possibly, kicked out because she's a bit unstable? to early to judge on that though, just look at Leliana's trailer) I'm definitely recruiting her. A Dalish mage should be very different from the circle mages and apostates we've had up till now (including a very different view of magic etc).

Still not to much from the video, other then it looks like we have to fight her first

I believe everyone here is going to buy the xpansion Image IPB

BTW.. The only thing I saw is a really angry woman, and hearing her words I undestood her reasons.. But we are not able too see how she will be when you will have turned her by your side.. Maybe she will be the sweetest character ever... or not... who knows??

Mhmm, but my point is that the trailer is supposed to show the character in their best light, to give you a taste of their personality and some idea of what to expect. If it doesn't do this, and Velanna turns out to be a sweet natured, adorable girl with an infinity for nature and a habit of breaking into song every five minutes then...I have no idea what I'll do actually. Sit staring in disbelief at my computer screen?

 Bioware, just messin' with us.

Only if they are hot for each other :)

I'm buying it - you (probably) can't properly grasp a character in a 45 second or less snippit.  Sure, you can judge them in that length of time but chances will be good that you may in fact be wrong.

She looks cool to me. A Dalish Mage was something I felt was lacking in the original game so I'm happy to see there will be one in Awakening. She has that typical Dalish holier-than-thou/f*ck off attitude but I am sure there is more to her once you get to know her (like almost all the characters). It looks as if she may start off as your enemy, too.
