Hey bioware tech or tech guys in the know, i am going to be buying a new xbox and want to transfer all my stuff over to the new system, but i have heard and come accross before a problem where the hard drive if used on another xbox will not recognize the DLC or other parts of the game because of a different xbox code on the system from the one you downloaded or played on previously.

Is there a fix to this?

If i go on the xbox site and do the "reclaim ownership" thing like for arcade games to the new system will that fix the problems and allow me to continue playing on the new system?

thanks and hope to hear an answer soon,
-Cory

as far as i know you can use a memory card (yes they do sell them still) and move stuff over, or buy the transfer cable from microsoft for like 14 bucks or something.

You can buy a file transfer kit at Gamestop or Best Buy and that will let you transfer files from your old HD to the new one.

No you can't. My Xbox red ringed last week and I used the transfer cable to move the save and it's corrupted. Some games are tied to the Xbox serial number and will only work on that Xbox ever. ME2 is one of those games.

I was 90% done with the game too and I can't bring myself to start it again.

Good job, bioware.

I have a similar problem..I hadda buy a new xbox because my old one blew up..

I played ME1 on the first xbox which was an arcade (so as far as I know, I dont have an HDD) and that was the first xbox with the memory card. Luckily, after my xbox blew up I moved all the saves from the memory unit to my new xbox (which is the new arcade) and moved the saves from the memory card to the MU of the new xbox (which I thought was the HDD).

Now my saves don't pop up on ME2...is it because I have the arcade xbox and therefore no HDD? Can I just buy an HDD without buying a new system (aka elite) and move them to there and just beat Saren again to get the hidden autosave?

First you have to transfer the licence
http://www.xbox.com/...censemigration/
Plug the old hard drive into the new system
Then re-download the content for the xbox 360's menu it should just update the licences to do this press the
Xbox logo on the controller then go to
account settings/ Download history/ Game/
And it should list all the dlc under Mass Effect 2 Click what you want to update and click Download Again

You will also have to re install the game on you hard drive but you shouldn't lose any saved content

We aren't talking about DLC and your post is completely useless.

You're talking about games tied to you SN. That what the licence transfer is for, so you can transfer from one 360 SN to another.  If I misunderstood your question. Please clarify you question in a manner that doesn't berate me and I'll try and help.

Pardon my stupidity, but are you saying that your ME2 save file won't work on your new Xbox?

thanks for this. I remember doing something similar before (a friend's 360) and it worked out fine, and I couldn't remember the steps.

I just bought an Elite 360 and need to transfer my game saves/files/DLC from my Halo 3 Limited Edition 360 to the new one.

Yep, it says that it's corrupted, even though when browsing through the memory tab on the Xbox I can see the save and my character level, etc.

Just transfer your licence. it only takes a few minutes, and you'll have to do it at some point anyway.  And you can yell at me again if it doesn't work. if it dose the only thing hurt is your pride

The license tool has absolutely nothing to do with saved games. At all. Period. I did the license transfer before I even tried to play the save game when I got this new Xbox, and you can only do it once a year.

I'm not asking for help here, I'm stating a fact. Save games will not work and cannot be transferred from one Xbox to another with this game.

Okay let me test that and I'll get back to you. I just happen to have 2 360 on hand.

If it does work, which method are you using? Memory card, moving the hard drive from Xbox to Xbox? Transfer cable?

It's possible that the saved game is signed with the hard drive security sector, meaning that it will only ever work on that hard drive. One of the things I'm looking to try is to copy the save game to a memory card through the Xbox interface to see if the save game will be re-signed.

Test results
Another 360 with the same Hard Drive Works
Another 360 with another Hard Drive and a 512 memory card with a transfered file works
Another 360 with no Hard drive and a 512 memory card with a transfered file works
Have not tested transfer cable, but I see no reason the others would work and that one wouldn't
All were tested logged on to Xbox live

I would delete and reclaim you gamer tag then test the save
If that doesn't work and you installed the game to your hard drive try reinstalling or playing from the DVD and try the save

You should be able to access all of your ME2 saved games if you transfer files to a new HDD. The only issues to be aware of are: The MU cannot be used to import an ME1 char into ME2. Transferred ME1 saves cannot be imported using the Import Utility into ME2. I have tried this myself when I upgraded my 20gb HDD using the transfer cable to the 120gb HDD. The ME1 save files appear in ME1 but do not appear for import to ME2. It's due to the particular way Bioware wrote the Import Utility to look for a hidden file that does not transfer over when upgrading HDDs.

wow lots of info, thanks for responding to my origional post guys.

celrath is right, if you have save files on a HDD and move them to the new HDD by a memory card, the saves work fine. you must redownload the DLC to get the save files to work right with the new xbox otherwise if you also move the DLC over with the memory card (or however) the DLC will not work and the save will not work.

the redownloading of things to the new xbox(new hdd) will make everything work correctly, you can use the liscence transfer tool on the website and xbox to do it if you have a ton of other things to transfer like arcade games and such like i did, yeah 578 things to redownload it took almost 3 hours, haha, thank god you can que up to 30 items to download at a time instead of the old i think 5 haha.

so to sum up, transfer all the saves to the new HDD by memory card (or transfer cable) but not any of the DLC. Once the new HDD has the save files, redownload the DLC through the new xbox (using the transfer liscence tool or not i dont think it matters). the save should work.

as for the guy with the currupt save file, if it's currupt it's currupt it has nothing to do with transfering, save files can become currupt especialy with a red ring, while it sucks man, it's not biowares fault, thats on microsoft.
