It appears that Legion's defensive score is higher than Garrus' after all. Ecael made a post saying the same recently, but for the life of me I cannot remember where.

I think the wiki is wrong based on this thread where someone was going for only Garrus, Legion, and Tali as survivors.

Loyal Garrus + Unloyal Miranda meant Miranda survived holding the line.
Loyal Legion + Unloyal Miranda meant Miranda died holding the line.

So obviously the defense score combination was higher in the first scenario than it was in the second.

I think part of the confusion is the fact that Garrus dies before Legion. Order of deaths does not align with order of defense scores. Think it was confirmed that Garrus, Grunt, and Zaeed actually all had the same defense score as well, but I'll likely have no luck finding where that was mentioned in these forums.

The page I gave you used to have Garrus' name in place of Legion's in that particular block. The guy who made the edit claims to have based it on the new issue of Game Informer, which apparently has its own suicide-mission tips or something. I could go and change it back to Garrus right now, but I don't know, really.

Ah, then I think the wiki definitely has it wrong. Here's the Game Informer article. It lists the order in which squadmates die while holding the line, but it actually doesn't give much detail on this mysterious defense score element. Based on what I and other people have tested, it would appear the order of death really is different from order of defense score.

Mordin -> Tali -> Kasumi -> Jack -> Miranda is correct, though. I don't know about the rest of that.

You would think Jacob and Garrus would be much higher on that ranking considering their past history with defensive battles.

EDIT: By the way, the survival of the escort and the two final boss squadmates can affect who dies on your hold the line team. Generally, if one, two or all three of those survive, the game will favor more than one (or only one) surviving. If they all die, the game will favor everyone else dying.

I think I may have to send him a PM and see what he says, then. I'll do it, whenever I'm in the mood.

Isn't Garrus top 3 during hold the line?

That's what I thought, but the GameInformer article says otherwise.

It makes sense that Garrus should be Top 3, though.

Legion? Hmmm could understand if he was high on the list. But top 3 instead Garrus? What's Bioware's logic?

It's Game Informer's input that says so. Check out the link I posted for Pacifien on the previous page; the ME Wiki used to say Garrus, but after Game Informer, someone changed it to Legion based on that. I'm going to PM this guy and see what he has to say. I don't want to edit the walkthrough until I'm absolutely certain of what's going on.

Two different lists here. One is the list in which squadmates die. The other is a list in how effective they are at defense.

As for why Garrus is lower on the death list compared to the defense list, I think it's because Garrus is a bit more selfless with his life compared to Zaeed and Grunt. Zaeed might be doing better about working with a team, but he still wants to be alive at the end. Grunt is just... Grunt.

As for why Garrus isn't, like, one of the very first to die if he's supposed to be all selfless, I think it's because the gap between his defense score and those lower on the list is just too wide. I'm sure he would have given his life to save Tali if he could, but she's just too squishy.

I believe what you say. It's just that from a plot and story perspective I don't get it. Didn't Garrus recruitment mission show that he pretty darn good at holding a defensive position? Legion is a capable fighter yes, But proberly not as tough as Garrus is.

From a story perspective, yes, one would think Garrus is the better choice (he defended an entire base all by himself after all). But it's what Game Informer says that's causing the confusion.

Interesting, Garrus is only mid-tier while Legion is high-tier?

He'll die first. His defense score, however, is higher than Legion's.

lol, I tried to post on this forum about this topic, but hadn't registered the game. In the meantime, I managed to solve the problem.

Got to the very end, and had all but legion loyal. Problem was, he kept dying on me, no matter what I did in the end. I tried taking him with me with the last fight, and that didnt work. I tried taking Garrus instead, and that didnt work. I tried putting the game on easy and that didnt work. I wasnt happy... until I read this forum.

Instead of taking Garrus, I tried taking Samara and Mordnin to try out the whole "hold the line points" thing. Turned out Legion is better unloyal then a loyal person...

Now yay for this forum coz I have perfected the ending with ALL abducted crew saved, all of my squadmembers alive, and the damned base blown up :D

P.S. Mordin and Garrus, max reave and max shockwave kicks massive buttocks.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned it yet, but it helps if you buy everyone's upgrade. Get Jack's upgrade if you want her to do the biotic bubble, or she'll die on that task.

Really? I didnt even know that there was a bionic bubble upgrade.  I just assumed that if she was loyal, you would = win.  If upgrading was really important, they probably would let you upgrade the biotic when your about to start the level.

I'd like to know whats with all the hating for Mordin? He is a lethal addition to the team with the proper upgrades.  Get him level 4 inferno and level 4 <whatever the passive one is> and he will rip apart the harbringers so quickly.  All you need is someone to take out the kinetic barriers (I use Garrus, but im sure theres someone else better suited) and you dont even need to be there.

I'm about to test the theory of whether or not Jack can hold the biotic shield while loyal but without the upgrade. I had heard that you needed both, but couldn't find where I had read it and then couldn't get anyone to confirm it. If it does make a difference, that would lead me to believe that Mordin's upgrade must make some kind of difference as well and possibly Grunt and Legion's weapon upgrades.

What I have found out after my 8th playthru it is if you let miranda do anything, and so far it is only the women who die, all who are loyal. I have also made it thru with non loyal people as long as miranda is only in a support role and not with you. In a way it makes sense, Tim whated you to get the info for himself, that too me was clear from the start and mirsnda was the team leader. But if you went rouge on him, which I do everytime, then mirranda is to ensure that he gets what he really wants.

Okay, Jack theory tested. She can definitely hold the biotic shield even if you don't get her upgrade. All you need is loyalty.
