Just ran another experiment.

Ex 5)
All recruited except Thane
Loyal: Garrus, Jack, Mordin, Tali
Lead: Garrus (both)
Vents: Tali
Escort: Mordin
Biotic: Jack
Boss: Jack/Tali

Results in everyone lives. This is the first I've managed to do with only 4 loyals.
Having less people recruited apparently lowers the total count you need to hit.

I went back and picked Garrus/Tali for the boss, leaving Jack; and Miranda dies. So it would seem that Miranda is higher on the death priority than Jacob per my previous attempts.

I'll probably experiment a little more maybe leaving Zaeed and Samara unrecruited and seeing how far I can get.

http://social.biowar...5/index/1165725

Ok, this is what I have so far for Kasumi, if they don't change it with the DLC:

Normandy Ship Upgrade Deaths
No Armor - Jack
No Shields - Kasumi -> Legion -> Tali -> Thane -> Garrus -> Zaeed -> Grunt -> Samara
No Weapon - Thane -> Garrus -> Zaeed -> Grunt -> Samara

Hold the Line Death List (Weakest first)
1. Mordin
2. Tali
3. Kasumi
4. Jack
5. Miranda

NOTE: Non-loyals will die before loyal squadmates.

The first time I played the suicide mission my logic was almost totally wrong in my choices.  Everyone was loyal except miranda.  Jacob went in the shaft because he volunteered so he died. Samara led my first fire-team because I thought she was the oldest and most experienced warrior but apparently she was a bad choice. Jack led the second fire-team because it was a supposed to be a distraction and I thought she would be good at that after her demonstration on the purgatory prison ship, but she got shot in the gut.  I sent Garrus back with the crew because I figured hes smart enough to handle the situation by himself.  Someone died holding the line when I took Grunt and Zaeed with me to fight the final boss, but I forgot who it was. I lost at least 3 people. At least I was smart enough to upgrade my ship.

I think its dumb that miranda is supposed to be a good leader because no one trusts her (including me), same for jacob. I think miranda would waste time fighting with jack if she was the leader at the least.

I updated the original post to include links to the latest post by Malysoun, which explains how to have everyone survive with only 4 loyal and to Ecael's "The Worst Possible Playthrough" thread, which explains how to deliberately create specific non-"perfect" endings.

My first playthrough, everyone lived.

Everyone was loyal-

Miranda led the first fire team, Legion into the shaft, my crew was the ME1 bunch(Garrus and Tali).

Then Samara was the biotic, Jacob escorted the crew, Garrus led the second fire team, and my team was Miranda and Tali.

is there any way to control who gets carried off by the swarms? I'm trying to figure out a "dramatic" playthrough (where I'm hand picking certain crew for non-loyalty and deaths) and I have Thane, Garrus, Mordin, Legion, and Zaeed as potential choices. Do any of them take priority over thane in surviving? (imagining they're all loyal, since I don't think a non loyal thane can make it past the attack on the ship if you don't have any upgrades, unless taking a non loyal thane to fight oculus protects him from all other dangers)

Also is the only factor for surviving the fall after the final boss battle dependent on whether someone is loyal or not?

Is there a way to get someone to die after the final boss even if they're loyal?

Edit:
I'm wondering if it's possible to get these all to happen:

Jack - killed by laser in hull (disloyal)
Tali - dies in engine explosion (disloyal)
Samara - impaled in normandy (disloyal)
Active Party - Does picking someone for the boss fight prevent them from dieing on either of the 2 later incidents?

Jacob - sent into vents, shot in head (loyal)
Garrus - leads first fire team, survives (loyal)
Active Party - I can just throw someone in here for the sake of variety

Miranda - used for biotic barrier, survives final boss (loyal)
Legion, Garrus, or Zaeed - escorts survivors, (don't know enough factors here to decide, need to also know reactions for following choices for who i pick here)
Grunt - leads second fire team, dies (loyal)
Thane - taken by swarms (not sure what party combination will result in thane being picked if he's loyal, or how to get him here through all the rest if he's not)
Active Party - Thane and someone who would fall as a lower priority to the swarms (thane gets taken)

Mordin - dies holding the line  (loyal)
Active Party - Miranda and whoever is left that will still allow mordin to die (i'd probably end up with legion and garrus loyal, unsure if zaeed would be unloyal or dead)

(how do you know which party member gets caught while falling during the collapse after beating the final boss?  I'd like to ensure that that scene is with Miranda)
I've been trying to figure out what combination of loyalty and if I would need zaeed in my squad to force any of these to all happen.  I'm not shooting for worst possible playthrough, I'm just trying for a very dramatic one.

Also these are conflict related: Can you have casual sex with jack before doing her loyalty mission, or after siding with miranda during their conflict?  Also do you still get tali confronting legion if you mess up the trial?  (Handing in her father's evidence, i'd like to combine her getting mad about her father's data AND legion's scan into the same playthrough for super dramatic character development type whatevers)

I just went through my first playthrough of the suicide mission, and even though I had gotten Legion's and Tali's loyalty, they still ended up dying on the mission. I loaded up an older save file I had right before starting the Omega Relay, and I still had all the characters' loyalties. I resolved Legion's and Tali's issue using the Paragon option, if that has any effect towards the outcome.

Legion possibly could have died because I put him on the Line, and he got shot right before the final boss fight. But I'm still wondering, what I could do to prevent Tali from dying? I put her as the Technician, but she died as she was closing the door.

My choices were pretty dead on first time around.  I didn't have Miranda's loyalty due to that Miranda/Jack scenario (i chose wrong) But I did it like this.  First fire team was led by Miranda and Tali went up the shaft (should have sent Legion but hey it was my first time through) Got all the way to the meet n greet at the doors and of course wouldn't you know it, Tali gets shot closing them. Hmmmm  Sent Mordin back with the passengers and crew.  For the crawl thru the seeker swarm infested area I chose to have Jacob run the biotic shield and went with him and Jack leaving Miranda yet again to run the other team.  Needless to say, Jack got eaten by seekers at the end of that run.  I took Jacob and Miranda to the final battle where we won, Miranda quit Cerberus when I refused to allow the base to survive but she died running back to the ship.  Didn't have any Zaeed nor did I have loyalty of Miranda, Samara, Thane due to failure on side quests but woah what a ride that was when we left.

You find yourself touring the ship at the end and pausing at the places each 'deceased' crewmember died.  I sacked the whole game and started over because I wanted Miranda and Samara loyal along with Thane and Zaeed and of course 'soon to be' Kasumi for my 'Insanity' run on the reapers.

My choice for the biotic shield this time around would of course be Samara or Miranda.  Jacob is powerful but I want to change up the batting order.  And oh yea, NEVER do I want to arrive at the end boss without at least one hottie from my team.  [Zaeed and Grunt?] pure firepower but not for the end.

I was up many hours when I went through this sequence. God only knows how I pulled it off as well as I did. Well, off for another go round on Hardcore. Saving Insanity for Kasumi ;D

I just have one question, loyalty or not, who would choose Jack to run a fireteam?  Sure, she showed promise decimating the prison ship but SHE DID ALL THAT BY HERSELF.  She wasn't directing a team to achieve an objective, she was simply blowing everything up to save her ass.

And never choose her over Miranda for loyalty.  I've seen both sex (or not sex) scenes and Jack just creeps me out.

Er - Quarians created the Geth so obviously Tali is on par with Legion (if not a better choice) for the vents.

Idiot.

I wouldn't call it common sense considering Mordin protected the clinic on Omega. Then again, he had those mechs...

Regardless, this is good to know. Either way, though, I always bring Mordin with me to the end-boss for his Incinerate.

no mordin protected the clinic without ever using the mechs he said so it makes sense.

If this has already been posted then please disregard, but has anyone tried to run the suicide mission by recruiting everyone, upgrading the ship, not completing any loyalty quest, and making sure that the proper teammate is chosen for the correct assignment (i.e. Tali/Legion vents, Jack/Samara/Morinth biotic shield, etc)?

I think in that situation, xJackDianelsx this likely happens:

Disloyal Tali or Legion gets shot as they close the door.
Disloyal Fire Team Leader (Garrus, Jacob, or Miranda) will get technician killed, if Technician isn't already killed.
Disloyal Jack/Samara/Morinth will get a member of your squad killed.
Disloyal Second Team Leader (Outside of Miranda, she lives regardless) will be killed as you close the door.
If you send someone disloyal back with the Normandy Crew, they will die regardless, with a possibility of the crew dying as well.
Anyone sent with you to fight the Human-Reaper that is disloyal will be killed by the Collector Base as it falls apart.
Anyone 'squishy' and disloyal will die at the Holding the Line part, starting with Mordin, moving to Jack, Kasumi, Thane etc etc.

Onto how I did my first time around.

Acquired all upgrades, so no deaths there.
Had a loyal Tali go through the vents, Garrus led the second team. No deaths.
Had a loyal Samara protect us with Biotics with a loyal Garrus and Legion in squad. No deaths.
Had a loyal Mordin escort Normandy Crew, no deaths.
Had a loyal Garrus lead the second fire team, no deaths. (though Garrus did shock me for a moment as he gets shot regardless, but shrugs it off if he's loyal.)
Loyal Garrus and Loyal Legion accompanied me to Human-Reaper fight. Everyone else stayed back to hold the line. Miranda was killed, holding the line as she wasn't loyal.

I foolishly took an unloyal Miranda to destroy the human reaper.

Why did she finally have to stick it to TIM? I wouldn't have really cared about losing her until she finally saw sense... RIP miranda.

On par probably, maybe a little worse canonically(this a word?). Not better. Machines are more efficient than organics with emotions, hesitation and fear. Alan Turing can be considered the father of electronic computer, that doesn't mean he could multiply or divide any better than that computer.

im not sure where the comment from the person who was wondering if non loyal miranda for choosing jacks side would survive, other than by fluke accident, and she does. i lost her loyalty, hate her guts, and shes spiteful enough to survive. left her at hold the line but brought her with me using samara as my biotic.

I have a question:

How do I get everyone killed? I've tried, but I can't get my shepard to die!

There's always someone left to pull shepard up in the end...

Er- Tali is a Quarian Mechanical Engineer so if Paris Hilton was an engineer, I wouldn't argue if she wanted to do my taxes...

No ship upgrades, no loyalties done, dont recruit Zaeed, make the worst choices possible on suicide mission.

But is it even possible to not get a single loyalty done? I tried and I couldn't get the horizon/IFF missions to trigger until I did some of them
