She had dumped Alistair at one point (it was about the heir! really!) and so this was, I think, the same dialogue you would get if your character was on hostile terms with him. "We're not exactly friends, but this is what you wanted, so here we go." That was his response when he asked her what she thought about getting married and she said she wanted to be queen. I think he might have actually said "and I want to be king..."Thor Rand Al wrote...

Hardened Alistair will, however, at several points say that he wants to be king and that he is looking forward to it. My HNF just had this conversation last night. She told him she was looking forward to being queen and he said "And I'm looking forward to being king. I would never have thought that before." It's not just about duty at that point.
Hey when did you get that lol... Hmm deeper investigatinginto Alistair now lmao

Well that would explain why I've never seen that, I haven't done the dump Alistair playthrough yet lol.

Yeah otherwise it would probably get replaced by gooey goodness. Dump Alistair and then marry him, and even at 100 Friendly he will at various points treat you like you're something on the bottom of his shoe. You do get to tell him you love him before you send him off to Morrigan. *sigh*Thor Rand Al wrote...

Im still searching for the perfect ending im happy with so wanted to know something. If I harden Alistair up and kill Loghain myself, will I still be able to persuade him and Anora to marry, and if so which produces the best ending. Alistair and Anora seemed to rule pretty well together without hardening him, is there a marked improvement if i do?
It kind of depends on whether Alistair's happiness matters in your idea of a perfect ending. Just imagine being married to a woman who's father you were instrumental in killing (even if the warden actually does it), and who describes you as 'biddable enough.' If he's hardened, he rules just fine on his own, wants to do it, and might even manage an heir. Anora is likely barren.

I can't see why he wouldn't treat you like that. You might as well just come right out and tell him that you're marrying him for the staus and power. He should probably laugh rather bitterly when you tell him you love him there.

Yes you can do that but he and Anora wont produce an heir which will mean trouble in years to come. Plus he really doesn't like Anora at the time of the Landsmeet (too much like her father aparently). So unless you hate the guy and/or want to snooker Ferelden, I reckon it's best to harden him, encourage him be king by himself then let him choose his life partner in his own time.
Trust me, single noble women throughout Thedas will be falling over themselves when it comes to King Alistair, he wont go short of choice or lurrve. Plus I suggest you buy stocks in whoever is the rose grower by royal appointment

Lol! Yeah, Alistair isn't going to have any trouble getting a date.

More like Eamon will hand-pick who he thinks is the best Bimbo Bannorn for him. <_<master-fluff wrote...

Hopefully a hardened Alistair would tell Eamon, the hypocrite who married an Orlesian with mage blood in her family for love, to shove his proposal where the sun don't shine...

well what about not hardening alistair at all and letting anora rule by herself, leaving us two freindly fellows to rebuild the wardens. i dont really want to do that but i cant justify locking her up forever, she hasnt done anything wrong really and when shes teling you about the arranged marriage and stuff you can see why she is like she is.
Im torn.
The problem with Anora ruling is the city elves get the shaft on that one. Whether you interpret the ending card as a pogrom or just a riot quelled, they end up with a food shortage she does nothing to prevent.
They get no such food shortage under King Alistair even if he's married to that harpy.

You just don't like elves because they excell at poverty.

Not at all. He himself brings up the idea of ending it because you two are not likely to produce an heir. And that's why my character got cold feet and broke it off, though after overhearing the nobles talking in Denerim she realized that his bid was failing and decided the Cousland name needed to be added. Plus not wanting to give him up after all. However, you don't get a chance to explain this or to re-start the romance in-game. It totally breaks RP to have Alistair treat you in such a hostile manner and to speak as though you had never been in a relationship before, rather than in love and sleeping together up to a few weeks before the Landsmeet (or right at the Landsmeet door!) But, eh well, game mechanics are awkward at times.errant_knight wrote...

It is an awesome trait, that can't be denied.
And I dislike them because they make two different models necessary of different hats. Think of the hat maker that is just trying to provide for his family that has lots of unsold hats that the state forces him to make to show goodwill to elves. The children will have to beg this winter to afford firewood too.

And Alistair is DEAD! Not a happy ending! LOL.
My happiest ending is me, HNF, and Alistair in love and married at the end. Yes, there may be heir problems down the road, but Ferelden is safe with a strong set of rulers who do right by the country.

I've always done the ritual. In one playthrough, I was male and didn't want to die myself. In the others, I was female, in a relationship, and didn't want to take the risk that either of us would die--in roleplay terms.
I'd kill my PC before I'd let Alistair sacrifice himself, though, just to make sure Anora doesn't get the throne.

I think the happiest ending for PC & Alistair would be to leave the throne to Anora, do the dark ritual and go off rebuilding the grey wardens together. Not sure if my PC will be comfortable with the Dark Ritual, though...I guess I'll see what Morrigan has to say when the time comes. If not, I will have a tragic ending...I'll sacrifice myself if Alistair is King, but otherwise it's probably going to be Alistair sacrificed. Sniff.
