Saved 'em all. Used Garrus as the leader both times (had a moment of panic when he hunches over after the second time as leader), Legion in the vents so my Quarian lady wouldn't be at risk, Samara for the shield, and Mordin as the escort for the hostages. Mordin worked in STG so I thought he would be able to get people out in one piece (sneaky dude). Turns out that was what the forum suggests as well.

First play through lost 3 crew members (Zaeed, Samara, Thane). had some loyalty issues and would rather have Samara lead rather than a disloyal Miranda, and figured an disloyal Zaeed could at least figure out how to get back to the ship with the survivors without dying, hell it would make more sense that any disloyal party member should jump at the opportunity, you should only lose loyal members who died fighting for the crew). So leader (Samara, ?), tech specialist Thane, biotic Jack, escort Zaeed.

Second play through lost none (oddly enough Miranda was shot but laughed it off). All members loyal.
If I recall leaders (Garrious, Miranda), tech specialist (Legion), biot Jack, escort Grunt (figured he was unkillable)
only crew survior Dr. Chalkwas

First play through was much more rewarding. I would rather have a good dramatic story than "beat" the game.

I managed to save everyone on my first playthrough tho I was freaking out the entire time. I think my heart actually stopped for a second when Miranda hunched over after being shot. Thankfully she shrugged it off. I've read on here several places that Mordin can randomly die during the mission but after several playthroughs I've yet to have it happen *shrugs* so I don't know if that's true or not.

It was a smooth run for me, conciderred who is the best in what, and everybody lived at the end.

My logic goes like this:

Garrus- he learned up a bit in ME1 and he got a squad of his own, so yeah 2nd team leader job is perfect

Miranda - her talents are the explanation, cerberus officer so she needs to know her job - another team leader. (Jack got me worried, so I choose Garrus)

Legion - he is a geth, hacking is his life, so he took that job

Samara - "helping the weak" stuff - She took the survivors back to the ship

Jack - an ultimate biotic - so yeah, a shield is not a big problem for her.

Ofcourse everybody loyal, every upgrade to the ship, and the mission was without casualties.

Goes without saying in a thread like this but..

***Spoilers***

I had Jack in my squad and Samara as the biotic barrier..person. I reloaded completely by accident when I was just checking my time played (doh..I do that on the save screen now) and went with Miranda.

At the last moment as we went through the door Miranda's barrier dropped and Jack was killed by the swarm.

So I reloaded again...reluctantly as I had been trying to avoid reloading just to make the story suit me and had successfully done so until this point. I just felt that my "hey let's try Miranda this time just to see how it is different" idea was what caused it to happen and I had originally chosen Samara due to her experience and such... so it was justified in my mind.

Anyway! lol...

This time everyone lived.

So it is surprising to me that everyone states that someone dies when they use Samara.

I think there is some degree of randomness outside of just Mordin. For what this is worth when I picked Samara I never heard this dialogue from Miranda where many claim she agrees with the decision.

I used:

Legion for hacking (to keep Tali out of danger lol) and Miranda on the fire team. Squad was Garrus and Tali (even though I didn't romance her she's like my femshep's bff).

Then Samara for barrier and Jacob on fire team. I sent the crew with Zaeed and by the way somehow his little line of dialogue where all he does is agree to do the job redeemed all the negative feelings I had about him. Squad was Jack and Garrus.

I then took Tali and Legion (I figured they both deserved the chance to work together and maybe learn about one another) for the final fight.

Everyone lived.

Now to go get that dance.

Let's see... I beat it on my first play through with everyone loyal, saved the crew, and not one party member died.

If I recall it correctly... Tech: Legion, Barrier: Samara, Leaders: Miranda & Garrus, and Escort: Zaeed.

My final party was Legion & Jack.

Paragon Ending... I was playing my second go as Renagade, but I want to beat Dante's Inferno first.

After you do the mission where you get Legion go activate him immediately (that is if you want him on your team). On my first play through I went to the galaxy map which triggered the abduction. When it was all said and done I activated him, did his loyalty then went to Omega 4 and lost half the crew but kept all my squad members.

When you get Legion activate him, talk to him about his loyalty mission. It looks like the game postpones the abduction until after that. I got the impression I could still travel around and do other stuff as long as I didn't do his loyalty. Once I did that got back to the ship and the next time I hit the galaxy map, bam, abduction. Then immediately went to Omega 4 and got there in time to save whole crew.

Re: Legion, rescuing crew - Yup. After aquiring the IFF, the player must either activate Legion, trigger his loyalty quest and complete it, or simply get their butts to the Omega Relay pronto. Doing any side quest whatsoever (one not linked to the main narrative), even so much as landing on an unexplored planet to kill some mercs or bugs, will automatically push the plot's time ahead, killing many of the abductees, including Kelly.

@ Sabbatai - Only when Samara is placed in a leadership role (ie. for Fire and Distraction teams) is there a death triggered, even if there is full loyalty from all characters. There should be no issues with her as a Biotic specialist. However, according to some reports, if she is not loyal, her barrier will fail at the last second, and someone from your current squad will then sacrifice themselves to save her.

I cannot save everyone because my hate for Jacob is too much for me to allow him to live.

It was the same hate which made me go evil in Kotor just so I could stick it to Carth.

I saved everyone. Had everybody's loyalty, and had all my sh*t upgraded. I also had completed every sidequest possible before the Joker level, and I was able to save my entire crew. All on my first playthrough with my paragon Shepard.

I actually I was wrong. Sort of. There is a finite number of things you can do once you talk to Legion. Because I had unlocked his loyalty mission I mistakenly assumed I could do it at my leisure. But I was wrong. After it was unlocked I traveled around finishing up some planet scanning to get some last minute upgrades. Went back and forth between Omega and Illium to make sure I had everything I could afford. Did an N7 mission or two. By the time I got around to going to get Legion's loyalty, attempting to dock at the Geth base triggered the Collector abduction. Needless to say I postponed Legion's loyalty...

Yup. I had all upgrades.. Legion as tech specialist, Garrus leading both teams, Samara as biotics expert, Jack escorting the survivors, and in the final fight I had Miranda and Garrus in my squad. Never one casualty, on my paragon femShep.

It's not just doing the loyalty missions, you also need to get the right upgrades for the Normandy and then pick the right people for the right jobs on the Suicide Mission. Get any of that wrong and one or more of your team dies either on the way in to the Collector base or while you're actually there. There's a stickied thread on this forum about guiding you through the Suicide Mission and getting everyone out alive, or even gaming it so that only particular people get killed.
