I understand the need to expand your market to new players,  I get that.  Some people who are buying a Bioware game for the first time aren't necessarily going to be proficient with maneuvering their Shepards with dual-analog sticks, I get that as well.

But, I must say:

Not only am I extremely frustrated with trying to fight the rather sub-par auto-aiming feature you have placed in Mass Effect 2, but I am equally frustrated and also insulted by the fact that you have completely omitted an option to turn it off in the options menu.

It is ridiculous and rather inexcusable in this current generation of gaming.

You're not the only ones mind you. I can think of at least one other developer guilty of this absurdity (Infinity Ward ... looking in your direction).

Yeah, it certainly hinders more than it helps, at least when you're going for precision strikes like head shots.

permenent flawed auto-aim
giant symbols of ammo type
mission complete screen to show us how much less we need to account for in the sequel
tutorial messages every 5 minutes

someone seemed to forget the M for mature part.... we arent THIS stupid bioware, granted some of are...helped better by these things...but at least make them optional hud elements.

Clearly, capitalizing is for sub-humans who need auto aim and tutorial messages.

It must be. I've never had a problem with it on the PC.

I would very much appreciate it if ME 2 on 360 had an option to turn it off. Really screws up my aiming. I went through all this trouble of learning to aim with analog sticks and they mess it up.

Also, "Auto-aim" is not quite as accurate as, "Aiming assist."  Such a feature could be helpful, but it has frequently pulled my reticule off into empty space as it tracked the wrong enemy.

Yeah it's for Xbox. So obviously if you have the PC version, there's no need for you to reply is there?

"Oh gee, hyuck... well I ain't never had a problem with that! Must be them damn gays! Those damn gay xbox owners and their ******'in around and such! I don't have nothin' to contribute or nothin' but I thought I'd just dun chime in anyway so I can move the conversatin' along not one bit. "

LOL, overreaction Makoto, overreaction. Even if they are wanting to flame you, at least give them a chance to make that clear first.

@Jaysonie

There's aiming assistance.  It's where your target reticule moves to approximate tracking a target.  At best it helps you keep a lock on fast moving enemies, at worst it messes up your carefully lined up shot.

Sorry, just furious over the dumbing down of the interface for Mass Effect 2.

I had been a staunch defender of this game since its release... but things are starting to seep through. Things perhaps I had been purposely turning a blind eye to...

You know... the flaws...

There's no auto aim on the PC version.. no option for it either in the menu (ME1 had an option for Auto aim on the pc version).

I'm assuming it's the console players experiencing this? I too would be angry with auto aim. You have my sympathies.

I really hate the auto aim, especially when your fighting husk at close range.

I think this would be the exact opposite.  Those that have been buying BioWare games the longest stand the biggest chance to not be comfortable w/ aiming with their thumb via a tiny analog stick.

This is only the 3rd shooter they've ever made after all (4th if you count Shattered Steel), and the 2nd that was playable on a console.

All that being said, I didn't really notice a big issue with the auto aim personally.  I support the return of options for tuning/tweaking the feature or turning it off entirely however.

It's different in ME 2, and it's always on.

Your reticule will occasionally move to follow a moving target.  In ME 1 you would just face in the general direction of your enemy and fire, but since ME 2 has no character stats to use for the effects of a gunshot, it physically moves the reticule. A fair portion of the time it doesn't just help you follow a target, it helps you line up shots that will miss more consistently than if you had control of the ability to adjust where your weapon is aiming.

Also, I still love this game.  I don't believe the tripe that the game will somehow stop being awesome just because people become aware that it has flaws.  Of course it has flaws.

I'm assuming this is a console problem.

My only guess is that auto-aim was included because of the lack of precision offered by controllers. The few shooters on consoles that come to mind all feature auto-aiming to some degree. It does kinda suck, but I can see why it might be included.
