How many points should I spend on Magic? Actually let's make it more general, other than making sure we have enough points to qualify for spells we want, how many points should we spend on Magic to make a good Mage?

Blood Mage, you may wanna toss some in constitution, but that really isn't necessary wiht the right gear.

^ Yep, you only need mana to power sustained abilities like Spell Might, Spell Wisp, Arcane Shield, Rock Armor, etc.

Reaper's Vestments(+6), Deygan's Boots(+2), Collective Arming Cowl(+2), Lifegiver(+10), Blood Ring(reduces blood magic spell costs, +5% spirit damage), Blood-Gorged Amulet(+12), Oak Branch(Staff, +2)/Harrowmont's Staff(+2).

Those are the best mage constitution items.

The only bad part about being a blood mage is that u do not get the good spells until level 14

Also Andruil's Blessing, Key to the City, and Helm of Honneath will boost all attributes +2.  Which can help both constitution and spellscore.

Avernus Robe from Soldier's Peak dlc also increase Blood magic, but I'm not sure if it stacks with other blod magic boosting items.

i built mine differntly, perhaps not the best but i focused on willpower and magic until i got useful bloodmagic spells, where i then started to beef constitution up a little. I use bloodmagic as a backup primarily, where once i dump my mana i switch over and use life usually near the end of the battle. I found this helped me live longer, and allowed me to have control spells set up already and I would finish with blood. But i didnt spec to use bloodmagic all the time. If you wanted that, would make sense to pump nothing but magic and constitution.

An efficient way to play BM (non-tanking)
1. Activate blood mag and cast stuff till hp
2. Deactivate BM and cast self healing or do poultice. Regenerate is highly recommended
3. When BM cd (and hp shd be >90%), activate BM and cast again.

With some mana regen, a BM will not run outa juice. Use mana pool for sustainables and healing. Use hp for offence.
Invest heavily on mag. BM has a certain amt of fatigue reduction (cant rmb what%) from hp casting and you can further reduce that by bloodring. Lategame wear lifegiver. Willpower unnecessary for BM.

Edit: typos

You shouldn't pump Willpower period. Lyrium potioans are easy to make, and you can use spells like Dark Substance (?) to get a chunk of mana from a mere 40 health. Your mana regen should keep you in combat forever.

As a Blood Mage, there are several types:

1. Normal caster, only using BM to cast BM spells: No point into anything but Magic. Mana Regen will keep you going, BM spells only drain about <50% of your health. A quick potion or a healer to heal you afterwards.

2. BM caster: Still everything into Magic. You can drain health from allies, not to mention you get enough Constitution from items.

3. BM/AW tank: Health regen items, allies to drain health from. High constitution from armor, and defense means you don't get hit or take a lot of damage. Can't cast as often as caster Mage. The only time you use spells is most likely to get a Blood Wound off and maybe another area CC after Blood Wound wears off. The rest of the time you'll be bashing people with your weapon.

So... nothing into Constitution or Willpower. Magic for casters, Magic + maybe Dex for AW for hit rate.

I tend to like to go SH/BM. SH for group heal and or revive. I orginally thought that it didn't make sense to go BM first since you didn't get the "good" spells until Lvl 14. But I suppose it really doesn't matter. BM/SH would work too. I thought I read somewhere in another thread that casting healing spells on your companions with BM active really ramped up the returns for them. Only downside, you can't heal yourself.

If this is your first BM, I'd suggest 15-20 Con.  Otherwise do as the above posters have said and go straight magic.
I always add a few points to Will also.  Yes pots are cheap and easy to make, but I'm not a min maxer, it just makes me feel better to have 15-20 Will.  The Con I can do without.

You get lots of good spells before 14... it's just at 14 you get blood wound which turns the entire game into easy mode :D

Once you get about 20 gold, you can make and sell potent lyrium potions for cash. Then get all the chars u want at the lowest level and pretty much insta-level to 14 through elfroot donations. That is, if you're not averse to quick money and quick-exp schemes.

Only two good tsaves in the game. Magister lord's staff, and Final Reason (DLC). Just equip them for the masive spellpower boost.
