There was a thread like this in the old ME forums that I liked, and I haven't seen anything similar here before, so here goes:

There's been ample discussion on the "big" things already, the game mechanics, the fighting style, the romances, the large decisions.

But what were the small elements of ME 2 that you loved the most, which tiny moments, references, comments, shout-outs, features, dialogue snippets made you laugh, go "awww" or just feel more immersed in the game?

For me, it is once again the way your actions and previous history are constantly referenced and reflected in news broadcasts and the like - it's really a nice touch, that makes you smile and feel as an integral part of a dynamic game world.

The "Shepard Foundation" that's giving out scholarships to underprivileged children on Earth in honour of the human spectre who allegedly had a "rough childhood"?
That really cracked me up playing as my earthborn Maleshep...

Same with the outbreak of riots that occurred with protesters attempting to extinguish the Shepard memorial flame on Torfan with the "Ruthless" background...

So, what are your small but heartwarming moments in Mass Effect 2?

The bar on Illium. The bachelor party, the matriarch bartender, and the turian/quarian convo all in one spot.

Legion's responses to the N7 armor question. Too cute for words.

I agree, the way the plates flare up and exclaim "...No data available.."

"The Geth do not intentionally infiltrate"

Don't know what I mean, bring legion to C-Sec customs, even better with Garrus there too.

The mother and the brother of the father still arguing on the health of the mother's child. Was kinda funny when she said what should we do? and the brother was like I don't know lets just ask some random person on the street.

They were in the first game also but there was a conversation with them then.

Oh, I didn't even know they had a cameo in ME2 as well yet!

I'll definitely be keeping an eye open for that now... and I'll be taking Legion to C-Sec ^^

I also agree with everything that's been mentioned (a lot of which I haven't experienced myself yet, but watched spoilery vids about - like the Tali hug, awwwww... and the bar on Ilium is FTW all in all).

The email system as a whole is totally a source of all these tiny awesome/funny/heartwarming moments.

I also liked the email you receive from the kid on Omega if you've used the Paragon interrupt to stop him from joining the Mercs...

In this context I find justinnstuff's signature to be totally hilarious :D

I liked all the small nods to ME1. Liara's line as you walk into her office was hilarious. I loved being able to reference the Geth data with Tali. Shephard's facial expressions has improved a lot since ME1, he doesn't keep that blank stare throughout the game.

In short, the continuation stuff.

I think this one is obvious for me, but...

the "YOU HUMANS ARE ALL RACIST!" Turian on the Citadel. :P

The bar on Iliium was also great, and I loved Samara's mention of her encounter with Nihlus.

Agree, the continuity nods whether it is to your backstory, you ME1 actions or your recent actions in game are always nice and immersive.
Same goes for Nihlus getting another mention, Nihlus ftw :D

@ Dr Metzger, oh yeah, that Batarian doomsday prophet was hilarious "You humans are a stain on galactic purity! You Sir, you are a blight - and you! And you! And you over there! All of you, humans!"

And @ Slidell, I think the way the absence of elevator-style party banter was actually referenced by the squaddies was hilarious, too.

II loved the emails! Haha some of them were weird, but it was so nice to see that people were actually grateful for all the storming around and fighting I was doing for them. Especially the kid that I stopped from joining the Mercs on Omega. And the spam was hilarious.

I also really liked that I got to see Shep SMILE from time to time! I didn't notice that happening much at all in ME1 (with the exception of the scene just before Ilos), so it was nice.

During Miranda's personal mission you encounter the merc leader

To Miranda: "Oh I was just waiting for you to get dressed, or Does Cerberus really allow you to **** around in that outfit?'

My favorite line of dialog. I also loved the whole Blasto trailer, including the follow up apology from the illium center for media about racism.

The emails really are a great system to get some feedback on your actions, a nice new feature all in all and often absolutely heartwarming, as with the Omega kid...

And the facial expressions range really improved with ME2, seeing Shepard smile or even cracking an amused/cheeky grin at times is also one of my favourite little things about it.

Hmm, I found the personalized advertisements on the Citadel pretty amusing. I think the last one I saw when I was playing earlier was for a biotic amp, and it actually mentioned "Sere Krios" as my companion (heh, I guess that was because Thane was in my group). For a second I was confused, wondering who it was talking about, and then I realized that "Sere" must be the equivalent of "Ser" in DA:O (maybe it was a little nod to DA:O - lol).
