It is looking more a more like a XP SP2 issue. Is anyone having this issue that is not running XP Service Pack 2?

Well actually I didn't get the program to "work", i just was able to stop the boot cycle, but now the Steam Fix that was issued by other forum members* has started it again, so it doesn't look like I'm going to get this bad boy working.

I've added a section to the troubleshooting page specifically for this issue, since it's so crippling.

Beerfish alluded to this earlier in the thread, but without a link. Apparently there can be issues with sp3 as well. Here is where he was quoting from. It does have a couple of links to MS knowledgebase hotfixes as well.

You could give those a try.

Ok using a trick from someone earlier I was at least able to uninstall SQL using the "backwards" trick so at least that's fixed. I just installed SP3 and now I'm going to attempt to install SQL again. If you don't hear from me, it's probably due to my PC being totally hosed.

I'm still trying to get Service Pack 3 working on my system. Seems to be a pain in the butt on a Boot Camp setup :(

Ok, it appears that it is in fact SP2 that causes the problem. After installing SP3 SQL installed perfectly. W00T! Problem solved. Thanks everyone!

Whew... good to see there is a fix for this. I was about to flip out there. I couldn't get out of the blue screen of death cycle so I reformeatted my computer. Thought it might have been due to some kind of virus. But, then I installed the toolkit again on a frresh windows install, and exact same thing happened.

I'm now installing SP3 as I'm typing this. Hopefully it fixes the issue. I have already wasted 5 hours of my day on this.

Ok so the msconfig part works, out of the endless rebooting. Thanks alot.

But. I can't uninstall the SQL, every time I try the PC restarts.

It's the "Microsoft SQL Server 2005" entry in the list, correct?

You need to go to the bottom of your list and uninstall SQL things from the last one upwards. Otherwise yes it will do the reboot thingy. Good luck.

I can't get out of the boot cycle. Even safe mode gives a BSoD. I'm using CHKDSK in the recovery console right now, hopefully that fixes it.

Ok that was a nightmare, thank god I was able to get into safemode and stop the cycle.

You should really put a warning on the download page...

I protest Microsoft's forced "upgrades".

If you like SP2, keep it.

Alleged toolset fix for SP2 found here: http://social.biowar...113400/2#183578

Dragon Age alone runs fine with XP SP2.

this actually messes with my system... If I install service pack 3 I have a lot of programs that don't work right, so now in order to use the toolset I have to install sp3 ?

Computer is chain restarting... I first attempted to deactivate the SQL services, but when I hit activate my computer froze and just sat there indefinitely. I restarted and tried to load with last working settings, but this did nothing. Now every time I try to just get into windows and deactivate the SQL services, my computer BSOD right after I open msconfig. What should I do now? :/
