I'm playing a human rogue, and I've entered Orzammar with my warden treaty in hand to demand my due respect. When I walk into the Royal Palace there is a goblet of blood. When I pick it up a Revenant appears and decides to demand his respect.
Needless to say every time I pick it up he ends up with more respect that me.
Anyone beaten this guy? I feel pretty low right now, only level 9, maybe I would be waiting a bit longer.

I have it is a little hard but you get the Reaver ability for your fighters if you do. Or at least i only noticed it after this combat or during the quest for the ashes where you meet the worshipers of the dragon. You can gain the Reaver skill by curupting the ashes with dragon blood then drink from the cup in next cut sceen.

The other stuff you said is right, though I wonder if he wants those spoilers that have absolutely nothing to do with the Revenants.
There are 6 of those vials in Ferelden, they CAN be beaten at lvl 9, but it's hard, to say the least, unless you have the correct abilities, A mage with Crushing Prison and Force Field (And if possible good healing spells) and a warrior with taunt are the absolute minimum I'd recommend, otherwise I can tell you that those things are immune to cold spells. Damage over time abilities like Walking Bomb, Curse of Mortality and so on are also a good thing to have.
They are completely optional though, so if you can't beat it right now you can always come back later.
