I don't know where I can best post this.

I can't do the mini-game hacking. I've tried several times. I've read posts where people explain how they do it. Nothing helps me. Is there a work around for this? If not, I hope I can return the game to Gamestop.

Are you sure you are choosing the correct fragments ? U have to navigate using WSAD and choose with spacebar, you also have to avoid the red ones.

Don't touch the redcrossed boxes. go around them. I didn't notice them in the beginning, colourblind and all, but once you see them, it's easy. No need to return the game.

The way I do it is, before I click on Start Hack, I take a good long look at the first block of code that I'll need to find (it's displayed on the left side of the pane). Then, once I've got it firm in my mind, I click on Start Hack. Once in, as noted, navigate with WASD and make sure you don't touch any of the red outlined boxes.

I have tried all of these suggestions, and more. I know what I'm supposed to do, I just can't do it. Thanks for the replies.

What do you mean 'I can't do it' ? What happens ? You can't navigate between the parts or nothing happens when you choose the right part ?

I kept trying to select boxes with my mouse the first few times I tried the hacking mini-game, that didn't work so well.

You can't select with the mouse. You move your highlighted window with the WASD keys. You select the code block you want by pressing the Space bar.

Yeah I know that now. It just took me forever to figure that out in the game.

The actual box you need to find is displayed under the time bar.. you have to find a selection of 3 blocks, if you select a wrong box or pass on a red crossed box you loose 1 out of 3 maximum failures, once you fail 3 times you've failed..

Besides this it's simply easy, find the block identical to the one shown on the upper part of the screen and select it, then find the next and then the last.. hacking done :)

LuPom brings up a good point: once you select the first block of code, thenext is different. And the thrid will be different again. First time I tried hacking, I made the error of assuming you had to select three blocks of all the same code pattern. Check out what LuPom posted in case that's the error you're making.

Kepha: yeah, apologies. I figured that out after I posted.

Now I'm really confused. I thought you had to choose the exact same text each time. On the third time I used space to choose the exact same text, the message said I failed. So, if you choose something different each time, how do you know what to choose?

Also, even after several fails, I still couldn't advance until I did the hacking. So, I can't advance. See my problem?

I chose casual play. If I choose normal, will I then be able to pass after three failures at hacking?

Each time you select the right block of text, the example block at the top will change. Then you need to select the block that matches the new example.

Yes, look carefully at the displayed text because it changes. If you have a large monitor, this is particularly hard to get used to.

Since it allow spoilers, go to Omega and buy the hack module, this increases your time to check all the texts.

I'm having some similar issues. I can move the cursor around by cannot select. I have the keys bound different, but when I select the 'use' key, it doesn't select. Anybody have this issue?

have u tried using space for giggles just to see if the binding does not change for the minigame? sounds like a silly question i know but stranger things have happened. also if this does not work... change it back to space try using space and see if the problem persists.. this would eliminate your keybinding change as the cause... althought it would be no closer to a solution...

I'll try to clarify. Let's say there are 26 different possible blocks of code. We'll call them A, B, C, D, etc.

In order to successfully hack the system, you must match 3 blocks of code without an error.

When you start the hack, there will be a block of code displayed at the top, which is the one you need to match. Let's assume it's code block Y. When you find Y and select it, the code block at the top will now change. Let's say it changes to P. You now have to find code block P as your second block. Once you select it, the code you need to find will change. Let's call it J. So for your third and final code block, you need to select J.

When you get all three within the alloted time, you successfully hack the system.

Hope that helps.

Wow, I didn't know that! Thanks! Of course, that makes it harder since I now have to also watch the top for the change. Yikes.

Once you get the hang of it, you'll find it's not so bad. And if you get the hacking upgrade, you'll rock. Enjoy!

just squint your eyes so everything is a ltitle blurry and look for the similar shapes.

its not too hardonce i realized that there were multiple instances of the right answer (its not a one-shot situation).. i calmed down and i get em every time pretty much. your priorities should be in this order:

1. dont hit a red block

2. find a matching square

and ideally you can pull it off in .. whatever the aloted times is.

i dunno how our colorblind friend above does it, jeez. i mean, i'm a ****ing moron but thats not a very clear gripe.

gamestop is generally full of jerks when it comes to customer service, but its always possible. if not there, im sure you can get 45-50 for it on ebay. i just sold modern warfare 2 (threw in a pdf file of the game guide) for 40$.

(see, i had promised myself never to paly a first person shooter on a console about 8 years ago.. and then i was playing it constantly even though i think i might actually hate it. thankfully the glitching broke my trance enough to get it up on ebay)
