Please... patch out scanning.

Honestly, it's just a bad design. My MX Revolution's right click micro-switch is now dying. Wanna know how fun it is playing a cover game when every other time you lean out to aim it fails and pops you back behind cover before you can even line up a shot? Not at all.
On top of that my hand now hurts from my middle finger to my little finger and my wrist. And no the scanner upgrade doesn't help any of that at all. Besides, reducing physical pain should not be an incentive to do something in a game.
I don't even agree with most of the suggestions to "fix" scanning as it just detracts from the gameplay that keeps most if not all of us in this series: combat, conversations, and exploration.
Please just patch this out, add a one click scan button, maybe an auto-scanner that will spend say 5 probes on the top 5 resource sites. Don't let it scan below moderate for balance if you want. I don't really care as long as I don't have to move that crosshair around planets anymore. Make it optional if you think there's someone out there that actually enjoys scanning but... please. This is a really amazing game and any other issues I have can be chalked up to personal preference that don't impact my enjoyment all that much, but breaking my fairly expensive mouse and risking permanent nerve damage is a little much to ask.
I find it hard to believe this made it through testing. And yet, here it is. Is anybody else out there with me on this?

But yes, something should be done. Make scanning a toggle instead of having to keep RMB pressed or something..

Definitely one of my minor quibbles, it's mandatory to progress your character (especially on insanity) but useless for anything else, like overcoming the severe underpopulation of the universe with credits even though I have enough Eezo to buy a small solar system.

Anything to make scanning less of a treasure hunt for a SINGLE purpose (upgrades) would be great.MassEffect762 wrote...

Also, why in God's name does the upgrade to scanning make the stupid thing go faster than it ought to anyway for accurate scanning instead of just making the reticule bigger? Scanning is the only part of ME2 that feels like it wasn't completely play-tested, or if it was, it wasn't finished.
There are lots of things about ME2 I don't "love", most of them are little and don't detract from the game because, honestly, I didn't make the game and BioWare doesn't make games specifically for me. Getting damned close to exactly what I'd like is impressive.
Scanning? Scanning just sucks. It's just such a chore with no reward outside of something that might as well just come with levelling your character (aside from the ship upgrades).

We cannot and will not customize the game for each individual who happens to like or dislike specific parts of the game, just as authors do not routinely re-write passages in their book to satisfy individuals who happen to want something changed.
not liking something is fine. Preferring something else is fine. Asking for a feature to be removed because you don't like it is selfish and unreasonable. There are thousands upon thousands of other players out there, each with his own opinions and preferences. You wouldn't like it if they called for us to "patch out" something you enjoyed, would you?

Anyway as pointed just crank up your DPI while scanning, it's not so bad at 5700 with the scanner upgrade
Or if you wan't you could always play with the Coalesced file and modify the scanner moving values to a speed more suitable your taste. At the same time this gives you a perfect perfect opportunity to turn off the awful mouse acceleration.

I think you're misunderstanding the concept of software patches. If a system is working as designed, we're not going to patch it. What you're asking for is to change the game, not fix it, and that is not the usual purpose of patches.

Why can't more developers respond to complaints with this kind of fire?

But otherwise, stop your incessant ****ing.
I'm playing on the PC and am having no problem with the scanning. Without changing my default DPI settings, I can get all the minerals I'll ever need with an hour of scanning.

I think this is funny. They replaced the Mako with scanning because people were whining about the Mako. Now people are whining about the scanning. I rather they kept the Mako, but if enough people complain about the scanning I am afraid what dumbed down design they will put in to replace it.
No, they replaced the Mako Missions with the shuttle missions.
They replaced surveying with scanning.
Get it right.

Mako worked fine on (almost) even ground but mountains and rough ground didn't work. And driving around looking for 3 USELESS (exp and money wise) rocks didn't exactly make the system good.
Scanning's fine, but it is too slow OR there should be some sort hints on planets where to scan (craters on rocky planets and storms on gas giants are good bets... but most planets don't have any "special terrain"). Maybe the scanner cursor could hint towards to a good mineral patch.

I'd also like to see some mini encounters happen for those planets that have warnings about pirates or rogue merc groups. (Maybe incorporate that into landing with the Mako. Fights over resources...)
Anyway, I digress.

hahahaha ! best response I have read in a while. because, mister woo, of course, they are actually people enjoying the mining mini-game, huh ?
I enjoy the mini-game immensely. It's very much a Pop-Cap type game, quick and entertaining. If you don't have two minutes to play it, you don't have time to play the full game.
