This is the worst part of the game by a huge amount i hate it with every fathom of my being
edit coalesced.ini and add this to your bindings:
Bindings=( Name="NumPadFive", Command="initpalladium 5000000 | initiridium 5000000 | initeezo 5000000 | initplatinum 5000000" )
press numberpad 5 once and never deal with scanning again
Thank you for this. From the depth of my being. Scanning is only useful if I need to do the anomoly side-quests ever. Otherwise scanning is boring and for it to be a required part of the game is just... ugh. I might even like it if it was improved upon but as is moving my mouse from side to side and up and down repeatedly while watching for signifigant spikes feels more like work instead of fun.

You want a solution? Since I don't believe you'll completely rewamp the thing, how about making the scanning mode toggleable? That should be a really minor change, something like this... What I believe you do now in some event handler is:
onRightMousePressed () {
startScanning ();
}
onRightMouseReleased () {
stopScanning ();
}
...Now if you'd change that to...
static boolean scanning = false;
onRightMousePressed () {
if (scanning) {
stopScanning ();
} else {
startScanning ();
}
...I believe a lot of people would be happier. All it takes is ~5 lines of code.

Developers often accuse players of this, and it is fruitless. We bought your game which is the highest honor you can receive.Stanley Woo wrote...

We understand that the project took many years of sweat and tears, and we're not attacking that work. Since you are too absorbed in your own pride, I will answer his question.
The reason Bioware makes you travel to each planet and scan them is due to the basic concept of the game. That concept is that you travel the galaxies and explore uncharted worlds. If we delete the map, and forgo scanning, you will not feel like you are traveling to planets. It will feel like a corridor shooter.

Fixes are made to patches, not changes in functionality.
But, for ALL YOU PEOPLE who HATE PLANET SCANNING.
SOLUTION FOLLOWS:
At any point in time, you can edit your save-game using a save game editor.
When you edit it, you will easily see a couple of values, namely the resources you need in-game.
Just change them to 500.000 for each resource, save the save-game in the save game editor and voilá!
Link to save game editor last in this message.
Continue playing without having to scan a SINGLE planet for resources again!
(you might want to scan a couple planets for the quests though? luckily each planet says anomaly reported if there is one on that planet)
And a little story to get you in the mood:
During my first playthrough of the game, I scanned every planet I could, until I had scanned half of the galaxy, then I stopped.
Why did I stop? Did I hate the mini-game so much? NO!
I was starting to feel RSI , for the FIRST time in my life, and I've been a computer user for 20 years.
Now you go on and tell me it is NOT the mini-game, it's just my body.... suure, I will just outright refuse to believe you
The biggest problem is holding down the right mouse button while moving the mouse in bigger arcs than necessary (due to the fact they decrease the mouse sensitivity!).
This is the key, to getting Repetitive Strain Injury, not to making a good mini-game.
On my second playthrough, I used the save editor to change my game and didn't scan a single resource (okay, one eezo hit when I sent a probe to the quest dot
And you know what? I feel fine!
I'm happy, my hand doesn't hurt!
You just have to ask yourself... If you really hate the planet scanning, why NOT skip it?
Before you answer, don't! Give yourself the thing you want, instead of reasoning against it!
Here we have a link to a support site for the save game editor and other tools:http://www.masseffec...es.com/mods.php
Version 2.3 of the save game editor (this is the one I used) http://mod.gib.me/ma...eedit_rev23.zip
Version 2.5 of the save game editor (updated version, I have not tried it) http://mod.gib.me/ma...eedit_rev25.zip
Thanks for reading, hope this helps you as much as it helped me!

Dethateer, maybe because you don't know me and you must think that all the people you don't know are complete idiots, you posted a useless troll post but, thanks for clearing that up for 13 year olds who have yet to learn how to mod.
I know how to mod but I was thanking the person I quoted because it was brought up in a "I hate Scanning" thread and there may yet be people who don't know how to enable the work-around for the scanning minigame. Obviously though if someone were to edit an INI file without making a backup file then they deserve to have to reinstall... futhermore I support PC gamers modding out scanning.

I'm 36 and don't know how to mod. What the heck does age have to do with it? I read the how to mod thread, and I'm still thinking I don't know I might mess it up. I'm not a computer guy, I don't have the time or patience ot learn it now. That does not make me an idiot, responding to your post might though.

Include it as free DLC through the Cerberus Network. Through this, you could EASILY include updates to the system, such as making the reticule bigger, some kind of auto-seeking probe, make it move faster, etc. These updates could even be purchasable through the Normandy upgrade system.
And no, not EVERYONE hates this mechanic...but I'm positive the VAST majority do. All of the guys at work have complained about it, some said they got so sick of doing it they just ditched and "finished" the game, completely unprepared. So basically...there's a group of guys at my work that will never even actually finish the game...and likely never purchase ME3

This isn't a simple ini mod- wait, why do I bother?

Plus if you have a good gaming mouse that can change DPI in the fly scanning is easy. Start scanning, max the DPI of the mouse, the scanner moves almost douple the speed of normal. When you are do with the planet, change the DPI back to what ever it was. (This method has been mentioned many times before).
The only improvement to scanning would be a way to sell the minerals to some trader for credits. But that would mess up the current fully funktional economy system of the game. But maybe in a DLC.

I don't mind it. I think it's a nice change of pace in the normal action. But if you are strip mining the whole galaxy then it might get a bit boring.

Stanley, I'm not sure why you went on your little tirade there... Since "streamlining" is a big idea for ME2, streamlining the resource gathering into the normal story line seems to make sense. Heck, WHY DO WE EVEN NEED minerals in the first place. Is that mechanic necessary at all? Can't upgrades be purchased with cash?
These are sensible enough questions. No need to get defensive about it.

However, for those of us on Xbox, it's considerably slower. Even with the upgrade, it takes about 10 seconds to make it from the top of the planet to the bottom. To do a full scan, you have to make that full motion...i dunno...50 times? Probably more. We're talking about more than 10 minutes a planet...and usually you have to do several planets to even afford a single upgrade.
