I put one point into this on my infilitrator and it ended up being very useful against husk swarms or anytime I wasn't fighting synthetics/shielded enemies with disrupter ammo.

Wondering if it's underrated or is it just too situationally useful? SMGing husks with it I probably saw more freezes than I normally would, but then again I only had one point in it.

Highly underrated, as is Cryo Blast. Squad Cryo is epic.

Very underrated. I've learned that Squad Cryo Ammo is a godsend, since you can switch your own ammo, and your squad retains cryo ammo. That's what I learned from that huge Vanguard thread a half-page down. Even on the higher difficulty settings, you'll find that a lot of your enemies will be frozen left and right with Squad Cryo.

But then again, there isn't enough room on an Infiltrator for Squad Cryo, especially if you want to follow a build that has an ammo type for every situation.

In the Vanguard thread thisisme8 mentions you can put squad cryo ammo on your team then switch to a more damaging ammo. Your squad will still retain the cryo ammo which will freeze any health only enemy they shoot at. It helps a lot more than you would think, great crowd control without having to waste a cooldown. Since you will spent most of your cooldowns cloaking having a cooldown free CC should be nice, but you may not want to spend the 10 points.

Also during a load screen the game told me frozen enemies take more damage :o

edit: I'm too slow.

You can always ignore incinerate, take a teammate that has it, and go with squad cryo on infiltrator. Especially if your bonus skill was warp ammo.

Squad Cryo Ammo is definitely a very potent skill. Saved my butt loads of times. So I would have to say that cryo ammo is defiitely underrated.

How does cryo ammo and cryo blast fair on insanity? That's really the only mode where min-maxing is most important anyways.

It works fine if you plan for it. AoE Warp or the AoE version of Zaeed's grenade skill works wonders to strip armor off of groups. Usually, if you get rushed by enemies with barriers or shields, there aren't more than two of them at a time.

Its an okay ability if you don't want to bring along Grunt or Jacob, or you're fighting a bunch of synthetics and you don't have access to Disrupter Ammo.

Its basically a combination of Disrupter Ammo + Incendiary Ammo + Shredder Ammo.

I believe you're thinking of Warp Ammo.

Disrupter stuns mechs when theyre unprotected.
Incendiary stuns organics when they're unprotected.
Shredder gives a damage bonus to unprotected health.

Cryo Ammo stuns unprotected mechs, organics, and gives additional damage to unprotected health.

imo, Cryo ammo is very good providing you take off targets armour, I'm currently using an infiltrator, disruptor ammo 2/4, squad cryo ammo, assassin cloak, heavy incinerate, class skill 4/4 (assassin) and AP ammo 3/4... I've just done the IFF mission on insanity (which imo is tougher than suicide mission) almost flawlessly (and without cryo ammo i didnt even manage to do that on hardcore).

Personally I can deal with losing out on the extra 20% dmg from AP ammo if it means my team mates will sort out husks for me (but then again I have the Widow, another class might find the extra 20% dmg more useful).

to be honest as an infiltrator i rarely find myself using disruptor ammo im not really a fan of it because the cryo ammo freezes the mechs anyway

Warp ammo is a combo of disrupter ammo and AP rounds minus the overload

Cryo Blast apparently one shot kills husks. So husks die immediately if they are frozen by Cryo Ammo? If so, then Cryo Ammo's use for that situation is huge.

I think it's because even on Insanity, the Husks don't really sport the most armor.  It's why any Cryo in general works well on them.

Cryo ammo doesn't seem to work on armor, which reduces its effectiveness on Insanity. About the only time it'll be useful is the Reaper IFF mission (which Pandy187 points out). On most other instances, where you are NOT being swarmed by husks, armor piercing / warp is definitely better.

Heck for most mercs (and of course synthetics) I prefer Disruptor to Cryo early game ... mercs are almost helpless with overheated weapons even on Insanity and Disruptor ammo takes down their omnipresent shields.

It's good on the lower difficulties but lousy on the higher ones. You are better off with Disruptor/ Warp or Armor Piercing ammo on the higher difficulties. Especially if you are a soldier.
