Everytime I see someone say this I always wonder if there was another scene I didn't get because I never saw a sex scene.

If what happens with Morinth is considered sex then Liara is a very bold for getting you twice before the actual love scene (in front of all your squadmates) and Shiala's just as bold for getting you right after you released her (no pun intended).

There's some subtlety to pick up on between those instances.

The subtlety within that instance with Morinth and the definition of sex (intercourse) does not match.  My point for using the instances with Liara and Shiala were to state that sultry speech followed by touching someone's head does not mean sex occurred.

If you share a drug with someone and have a euphoric experience does that equate to having sex with whom you shared the drug?

For the Asari, there's a difference between joining minds for the purpose of the transfer of information, and joining minds for the purpose of intimacy.

In ME1, when Liara and Shiala join minds with Shepard to access the information about the Protheans and the Cipher is Shepard's mind, that's not intimacy.

In ME1, if Shepard romances Liara, and we see the romance scene, that's joining minds for intimacy.

Ardat-Yakshi do kill people by the joining of minds.  We'd need to establish exactly what was happening when Morinth's eyes go black and her face goes white.   Was that mind-control, which Morinth has, or a joining of minds?  It can't be both, since, as I stated, Ardat-Yakshi kill people by joining minds.  As I see it, there are two options:  That was mind-control (which Shepard, with Super Protagonist Powers, can break), or the developers made a boo-boo with lore.

I would assume that their is a brief joining of minds that occurs, like it occurs with normal Asari that are not AY.

The mind joining is intimate in itself, even if intimacy is not the purpose or motivation, I would think.

She presumably enjoys the act.  Is murder the sole enjoyment?  Is pleasure derived from the mind joining, with the enventual death of the other individual adding even more pleasure?

It satisfies an addiction.  That's probably the primary motivation - it satisfies the "itch" of it having been a while since her last "hit".

EDIT:  The mind-joining is the entire act, though.   It's why sensations are multiplied and split between the Asari and her partner during the act, making the intimacy more potent.  Presumably, it's why the Asari can get pregnant from the act.

In ME3 I would like Morinth to be like Dexter.  I want her to be influenced by Shepard... but even then she is still twisted.  I imagine her hunting down and seducing other sociopaths (not necessarilty Ardat-Yakshi... but other "monsters" like herself).  That should be her attempt at redemption... if she has one.

I thought I was the only one who thought like this.

I hated how they tried to shoe horn a 3 dimensional character into a 2 dimensional box and how many (if not most) just accepted it.  To imagine that for 400 years she reveled in her condition instead of trying to find ways to improve or fix it just seems like a waste.

Along the lines of "Dexter", I thought about how it would have been if she were targeting only mercs and such to boost her abilities since they and murderers et al wouldn't be in short supply over the course of 400 years.

The way I look at it: Morinth can forge a link with her partner and begin the process that allows for randomization in case she wants to bear a child, but what happens is she's unable to exert any control over the process so she ends up overloading her partner's brain (basically exerting more force than she needs to) resulting in some weird kick back when her partner dies.  I don't think it's pleasurable because of something Samara says if I remember correctly.  The last time I started ME2 after the last patch I interacted with a console and my computer froze.

By the way, sorry for the late reply.

I think that she should still revel in her condition... it would detract from her character otherwise.  I just think that though she is thinking she is doing better by targeting other sociopaths... she is still twisted and a murderer.

Maybe unconsciously she could do that, but to consciously revel in her condition it doesn't seem like she would be the type to do that.  At least to me she doesn't come across that way.

I think it would be a twisted version of Paragon though... closer to paragade. Like she tries to do what is right, like Dexter, but her being a sociopath means that she doesn't get it quite right.

Would certainly make for an interesting party member the next go round. Some sort of perverse loyalty to Shepard, coloured by the struggle not to succumb to that killer's instinct. Not to mention, having an "evil aligned henchman" is always fun (Jack doesn't really count).
