Well, I guess it's safe to assume Morinth won't return as a permanent squadmate in ME3.

Yes I agree even in ME2 she shows her desire to fight the collectors because they are a threat, so I guess this won't change in ME3, I still dream with Morinth being a squadmate and LI in ME3, but if this isn't possible I think a role as SHperad inteligenge gatherer or Shadow operative helping fighting the reapers would be a cameo that would suit her personality.

It could be interesting to see if she returns in some capacity.

I have to wonder...if Samara returns, even as just a temporary squadmate in ME3, would they include something with Morinth also? I mean...Morinth doesn't have much motivation for helping Shepard, since really her only reason for helping in ME2 was...to provide incentive for Shepard not to kill her, I suppose.

Morinth have a huge motivation to help Shepard and that motivation is survive, she knows that the Reapers are a threat that's why she helps Shepard in ME2 instead of running away in the first oportunity. She has as much motivation to help Shepard as any other character.

It's a shame her implementation in ME2 was so half-assed as evidenced by her "acting" as her mother if she dies in the SM and lack of other unique dialogue outside of the Normandy. They didn't give the player any compelling reason to recruit her besides the novelty of it either.

It's a lame cop-out no doubt. There's no indicator that the squad even cares about Samara or that they would be that worried about Morinth considering that there's other less than noble characters like Zaeed,Jack and Grunt onboard.
Still, the biggest issue is that the game doesn't provide any good reason to pick her over Samara. They should have had her revealing dark secrets about her mother that would have had the player dealing with a moral dilema over who to pick.

It could have worked so long as it would have potentially caused unrest among the rest of the crew. I think Kelly keying in on the difference was a hint that it would have gone there. That they didn't continue with that and Kasumi apparently knows about it and doesn't care shows the likelihood of the team coming to terms with the whole thing.

I hope she is given at least more depth in the third game than she was in the second.

I think that Morinth had huge potential to be a fantastic character but all this potential was wasted.

Morinth is one of my favourite characters in ME2, and I really wish they had developed her character more, having her being recognised as a full squadmate and not simply an imitation of her mother was absolutely necessary, I think it would be very interesting to see the reaction of the others squadmates to her and her interactions with them. having more conversation with her was also necessary to help her character development and to help the player create a conection with her character, because as it is there isn't much to conect with.

She most certainly did have great potential, a hedonistic sex murderer ending up as an unlikely galactic hero? Now THAT would be an interesting character. That would have been unlike her mother who's a dead end as far as character development goes.

I posted a story featuring Shep/Morinth on FFN: Hollow
Synopsis: A visit to Morinth's quarters leads to a dangerous situation for Shepard.
Rated M (language and adult situations)
2650 words
Here's an excerpt:
"I'm not in love with Miranda," Shepard announced as the door to the observation deck hissed shut behind him.
Continuing to look out at the expanse of stars drifting by, Morinth made no reply. She had been thinking of her sisters, ensconced in an asari monastery for the safety of the galaxy. Were they happy tending to bees and brewing honeymead while suppressing their true nature? Had stoic Falere found a use for her gift with numbers? Did clever Rila still like to play pranks on her friends? Did they have friends? She had thought of them rarely over the years, but playing the role of the dutiful justicar for the past few months had led to endless hours of reflection in this accursedly quiet room. It was dreadfully dull. She would much rather be in a dark, pulsing nightclub somewhere, anywhere, dancing the night away in a hallux-induced haze, thinking about nothing but her next victim. Soon, she would be. Shepard's mission was over and she would be disembarking at the next stop.
"Did you hear me?" Shepard prodded.
"I heard you, Shepard," Morinth replied. She didn't intend to look at him until he said something interesting. "Why are you telling me this? What do you think I know of love?"
Shepard ignored the question. "She thinks I love her. I've told her I love her. But I don't. I never did." There was no anxiety in his voice. No guilt. Just...weariness.
Oh very well. She turned to him. "You're boring me, Shepard. And you know how I hate that. Of course you don't love her."
Shepard's eyes burned like dying embers, casting an orange pallor on the scars that criss-crossed his face. "You knew?"
She sighed. Idiot. "Do you remember that night on Omega? When you helped me kill my mother?"
Shepard shrugged his shoulders slightly. If the memory caused him any discomfort, it didn't show. "Yes. What of it?"
Smiling, she stepped toward him. "Well, in between all those clever lies and prepared responses, you said something that was true." She touched his arm, relishing the electric discharge.
"Now I'm the one who's bored," he said, shrugging her hand away. "What 'true thing' did I say?"
She smirked before turning and walking toward the divan, hips slowly swaying. "That you were like me."

Morinth doesn't have much motivation for helping Shepard.
I'm not so sure about that. I think Morinth would follow Shepard almost anywhere, because she's totally into Shepard. Samara went on at great length explaining how Morinth is attracted to strength, power and creativity. Shepard has that in spades and she wants it bad.

Doesn't sound good. I like Kasumi and Morinth, especially her VA. Sigrun was my favorite from Awakening as well, seems she likes to do characters with death fetishes
Haven't saved her in any playthrough yet but I will eventually even with this news.

I've really grown to appreciate Morinth's character. At first I dismissed her as being a one note sex murderer but she's a very interesting character. She has/had great character development potential stemming from her going from a self-obsessed hedonistic serial killer to an unlikely savior of the galaxy.

I agree I really loved Morinth because I couldn't help but appreciate how incredibly written her character was. Even with the little dialogue on the Normandy she was so compelling- the absolute archetype of a mass murderer. Her smooth words made me want to have compassion on her and forget she was a ruthless killer- even though her buttery sentences were just a clever means of pulling in another victim. I wish she had more dialogue. The voice acting was incredibly sexy and compelling.
