I've been reading all these threads about people complaining about scanning but look at it this way it adds another pillar into the game.  Personally i like this system for more than one reason it makes people who put time into the game come out with more upgrades , I like it because its one of the few ways I feel like you can actually a leg up for the next game considering the level cap is much lower I feel that individuals who took the time to gather minerals for upgrades will see more results in ME3.

honestly if your complaining about scanning your just lazy the hardest part is before you have access to the advanced mineral scanner once you have that its very simple and easy not to mention you discover alot more while your scanning for minerals . If you have beat the game already and are playing a 2nd run through you really shouldnt complain considering your rewarded with bonus starting resources.

I think bioware had a good Idea by adding another aspect to the game which is scanning for minerals that fuels your upgrades.

I like the general idea of having a gameplay mechanic that is:

(1) not really required, but

(2) if you want to be real anal and relentlessly exploit some resource to max out your character here's something that will give you some goodies if you pour a lot of time into it.

I know a lot of people want to be able to find some way to be real systematic about maximizing. It's the old look everywhere for loot thing, except since Bioware (smartly and commendably) pretty much took the traditional loot hunt out of the game, it's a good idea to replace it with something else to allow loot-completionists to get some edge from sinking their time in.

Only problem is the actual scanning mechanic, at least on the PC, where you have to hold the RMB down and move the mouse up and down for minutes on end. That is beyond no fun and into the realm of physical pain.

I like the idea. HATE AND DETEST the implementation of the idea. It's enough to make me go back to ME1 and get a level 60 character just so I can minimize the scanning required in future ME2 playthroughs.
