I imported a custom Shepard into ME2, but I wanted to change his looks a little bit. However when I jotted down his face code and reloaded the game, I discovered that code the game gave me is actaully the code for the first "preset" face, not my Shepard.
my imported Shepards face code is wrong.

Yeah, the only way to get the code for your Shepard is through the stats menu once you started a game. Also it might be super hard to see if you on a small SD tv, as the letters are almost translucent.

no no, I go to the stat screen, and the code it gives me is the code for the first preset face.

Yeah, pretty sure that's a bug. Having the same problem with my FemShep's face.
Edit: I might add that I use the PC version so it seems to be a but in the game itself, not just for one platform.

I think you have to get out of the Prologue/Lazsrus station before the code is correct

No, it's never correct.

Not sure how well you can see it, but this is the default FemShep code. I took this snapshot after beating the game.

When playing the game the first time, I saw the code, and wrote it down. When I later re-imported after finishing the game for a 2nd playthrough, I typed in the code I had written down, and it was about 1/2 wrong. Many of the incorrect settings were one notch off, some just way off, no real rhyme or reason to it. And now on my second playthrough, without changing it at all, the code that shows up in the squad screen is different again, about 6-7 of the settings are altered. But, like I said, I didn't choose to change it, though I did go in, fiddle a bit, then cancel back out and just choose the imported face. Something's definitely wonky.
Edit: And it's not just my bad grammar. Fix'd
