I cannot be the only fan of this character that is bewildered by the fact that no-one has opted to make a game or movie out of his franchise. Any thoughts on why this amazing character has not made its way on to the big screen or gaming?

I too am fan of the legendary drow and I share your surprise there. Although he has a lot of cameos in various RPGs and books, he hasn't had the exposure that he deserves. I myself think that there should be a game with Drizzt and his friends as the main characters(Wulfgar, Catti-brie, Bruenor and Regis) or even an animated series(that would be awesome)

Probably the lamest drow on the face of Faerun. Liriel Baenre is soooooo much better...

She's pretty awesome too but Drizzt is older.

I love Drizzt
And Artemis Entreri
And Jarlaxle!
In fact I don't think there are any characters in the series that I don't like.

Jarlaxle is just awesome for just the fact of shaving his head being a Baenre. All the rest just makes him even better.
For Liriel; well, any worshiper of the Dark Maiden automaticaly rocks.

He was playable on one level of Demon Stone. He definately does deserve his own game though, And all his little freinds too.
I have only been able to find the first Liriel Baenre book so i cannot comment there.

Drows, Rashemi berserkir and the Dark Maiden behind; what else do you need?

Liriel converted to worship of Mystra after the Starlight & Shadows trilogy. There's a short story about it in one of the Forgotten Realms compilation books. Realms of the Elves maybe? I can't remember. It makes me wonder what dark fate befall her when 4th edition rolled around. :/ Elaine Cunningham once wrote in her blog ages back that given she was both a mage and Mystran cleric, and that WotC owns the character, there's a good chance she didn't make it past the Spellplague. I realize that's all PnP stuff, but those changes do affect Forgotten Realms novels. Sadly it's unlikely we'll see Liriel Baenre again. It's sad because I must concur she is a more interesting character than Drizzt.
As for the sword swinging ranger himself, he's okay. He's undeservedly maligned in my opinion. Just because a bunch of fans can't help but imitate Drizzt in tabletop and video games, and generally gush with praise, he gets negative attention. Drizzt's only serious crime is popularity, and being trotted around as an advertising icon due to said popularity.
I did enjoy the Drizzt books up until the Orc King trilogy. The last one I read was Sea of Swords. I just couldn't keep up interest in an ongoing series with no end in sight. That and the fighting scenes, while well described, get extremely repetitive after awhile. It reached a point where I would skip to their outcome to get back to the story.
But on the whole? I don't mind Drizzt. There are far worse characters in fantasy novels; especially in the Forgotten Realms setting.

That because I killed him and his gang in Baldurs Gate II, a dead legend is not much of use these days.
