How can Alistair not die at the end? *Spoilers*

I can't seem to keep Alistair alive no matter what! I accapted Morrigan's offer and I'm an romancing Alistair. My character always takes the final blow, and I never die, probably because of Morrigan. I've even taken to leaving Alistair at the gate so as to keep him far away from the dragon. But at the end, Anora always says that Alistair died in battle, and of course he is no where to be found.

And another potential bug, I always have Anora rule alone. But Alistair seems to think that he is king. Whenever we talk, he mentions that he will be king. Anora also doesn't try to kill Alistair, like I've read she should. And Alistair is hardened.

Is this a bug? Am I missing something? Help, please....

This is a bug. I had the exact same thing happen in my game with a female elf mage. I, too noted that Anora didn't try to kill Alistair, even though I put her on the throne alone. I had not hardened Alistair, but he kept talking about being king.

As a small consolation, in the epilogue at the very end, after you leave the castle, you will probably read that Alistair and the Warden went off together.

I haven't seen any fix for this problem anywhere on the forums.

i hope they fix it soon i am sick off loosing my stuff that alistair had and how come if you let *LOGHAIN* take the final blow why does he survive?

What platform are you playing on?

In the PC version, Alistair lives when I choose the Ritual option with Morrigan. And so does Loghain. In the play-throughs that I've spared Loghain, Alistair takes the crown for himself and says so. I usually pre-arrange the marriage between Alistair and Anora - seems like this is the best ending of all.
