I'm been gaming for 20years I don't think it's hard for us to pick up on anything unless the game is so out there or it has horrible controls but not everyone has been gaming for that long.
how I got to 40+ hrs in general my first play through
scanning ( I had almost 200K spare resources on my first play through )
exploring diagloue option ( I ran through as much of the investigate option as I could on first play through, I rotated party members out to hear their various views on omega / citidel / that asari planet I can't spell )
back tracking on levels ( I tend to dive from cover to cover and sometimes I might miss a corner so I back track to see what I missed )
reading planets descriptions
trying to interact with <everything> ( yea I ran around clicking on anything that I could )
like I said playstyle matters, I like exploring and finding out random stuff
56 hours? G4 is full of bananas!

I don't see how you can hit the level cap on your first playthrough though. I didn't get near it and I did everything. Second play would be easier since you get +25% exp.

Dialogue, Dialogue, Dialogue... citadel news reports, anyone that can be spoken to, always choose investigate and exhaust all options in conversations.

I was watching a video of G4's Xplay host and he said his playthrough of ME2 was 56 hours. I seem to have mised almost half the game? I capped out at level 30 infiltrator, made every star system 100% and had almost 90k resources in every catagory when I finished. What the heck was the G4 guy doing differently?
Such an exageration seems really unnessiscary .
35 hours for me to finish
All the pre release reveiws seem kinda full of poo poo to be honest from time to play to rating given.

Being a 40+ hours guy, I can tell you what I did, that I think you didn't do. But this is all just speculation and theories.
* Talked to every crew member after each mission, to explore all their dialogue.
* Read all the emails
* Didn't skip any dialogue
* Didn't do a powerbuild that could crush any and all opposition in 30 seconds.
* Used cover and my team mates do take down enemies.
* Made sure that everything was explored, so that I would get all missions.
I think that the one carrying the most weight is the powerbuild. I'm guessing that the fast crowd didn't use cover an awful lot and simply charged the enemy and ran in circles around them, exploiting weaknesses in the AI.
I've asked this in a couple of threads like these before, but no one wanted to do it (or answer at least), but I'll ask here again. Could some of the fast players make a video of how they play (combat and between missions), so that we can see what it is you're doing differently and what we then should avoid doing, unless we want to complete the game very fast to get a new save for ME3

The problem is your thinking that everyone does everything the same and takes the same amount of time to do everything just like everyone else doing everything at the same exact pace... oh and that there is a lot more to ME then "the main storyline"
Which brings me to the question. What do you consider the main storyline? Is it just the shortest route to the end of the game. Skipping everything that is "optional".
Also I cannot see how its lieing. I mean if it took him 50 hours and he said it took him 50 hours how is that lieing?

Yeah this. If you are clearing the game in 20 some hours you are skipping some of these steps, and missing a lot of fun in combat. It is very enjoyable to use tactics and flank to set u pcrossfire, things like that.
If you are just running round in circles and exploiting AI, you're missing out.

Good point that I havn 'nt seen explained properly before.A lot of posters complain about probing planets for minerals. In my game I needed something like 25000 Platinum for a weapons upgrade but only had something like 2000.while searching for the Platinum I came across 3 or 4 side missions.2 merc bases I could wipe out,1 crashed ship, with enemys of course, and another crashed ship that was a kind of maze thing, you had to get from one side to the other to retrieve the flight recorder thingy(I never figured that one out,had to reload a save and just bypassed it)banshee768 wrote...

When you first land on the wreckage, walk forward a bit, then turn around and look a bit to your left, you should see a hanging piece of metal. Shoot that and it will fall down, allowing you to cross a gap that you would not have been able to before.ZOMBO6F wrote...

fyi you're a moron.... computers are for everyone.. including grandma's and little kids. Consoles are a privilege not everyone has, but the majority of this world has access to computers... whether it be in school, at work, etc... and most at home.
imo playing games on the computer is very easy... especially so many people find ways to mod and do console hacks... that's why I prefer my consoles, although I've been competing in FPS games on the PC for years.... I'd be lying if I didn't say that the future is in the hands of microsoft for gaming.. and microsoft is pushing for consoles, soon there will be no line between the two.
Not to mention my huge hdtv and big couch are very nice and comfortable, so is a wireless controller. =)
But it all comes down to preference, I have the option to play on any of the new consoles as well as my gaming desktop or gaming laptop.... I usually choose my 360 EXCEPT for some games. Especially for multi-player and rpg's that are in-depth. That wasn't the case before the 360, but it is now.
If you scan every single planet til it's depleted in resources, you can probably clock in that amount of hours easy. Not to mention, I wonder if they realize leaving it on pause still racks up hours. I fell asleep, woke up... went to work.. came back I had A LOT of hours added onto my play-time lol.

This.. My first playthrough on normal was 56 hours... With an Adept.. I'm replaying the game on insanity as a sentinel now. We'll see how long that takes.Alamar2078 wrote...
I'm not surprised it could take 50 hours to complete the game esp if:
-- You listen to every line of dialog all the way through
-- You backtrack to find every single solitary piece of loot on every level
-- You don't mine efficiently [I didn't my first 2 times through]
-- You do every single mission, side quest, etc.
-- You visit every person after each mission to see if they have something new to say
-- You let the console run while you have dinner
-- etc....

Everyone is telling me what I've done, apparently there is a ton of content I'm missing with this list.. I just want to know where all those hours are. I don't want to start a snotty nerdfest.
I'm not trolling, I just want to get the most out of my game like I did in ME1

I find it depends on the person how long the game takes and not on what level you achieve (26 the first play through for me) or anything else. As a general rule I double any number I hear on game duration...DA:O first play through was 107 hours or something similar.

Things I did and didn't:
-almost no skipping of conversations
-inefficient mining for about a third of my first playthrough
-taking the "slow and sure" approach to combat"
-taking time to speak often with my team members
-taking extra extra extra time to explore levels afters I realized I coudn't revisit them.
Having said that, my most efficient ME1 playthrough, doing *everything* including collecting every single piece of resources, combat insignia etc., was about 19 hours. I guess you can easily halve play time by cutting conversations, rushing through combat, and using the knowledge where everything is in the levels you need not explore anymore in later playthroughs.
