Samara's loyalty mission and the suicide mission were the ones that kept me on my toes the first time through. I was so terrified of screwing somethiing up.

I would definitly have to say the Suicide mission. Before that, the Samara/Morinth face off was pretty intense as well. The Joker level was incredibly intense and I nearly shat myself when that huge collector ship came outta no where. Zaeed's level was very well done too. Both the derelict reaper and Collector ship had great atmospheres as well.

Can't wait to start my 2nd playthrough.

The most nerve wracking part is when you take your LI on the final mission [knowing people could die but being spoiler free enough not to be sure how or why] and you see them start to fall from the platform.

FYI: I think the person you choose second on your team is the one that [almost] falls if anyone wants to RP that specific option.

This. A thousand times this. And it doesn't just go with the LI tbh. Garrus was the one sliding off for me and I was basically sitting there and holding my breath during the entire scene. Basically the entire endmission is really exciting everytime though!

Definitely the part where you get trapped on the collector ship. The whole time I was waiting for **** to fan.

for me without a doubt was when the final boss appeared, I guess many ppl "saw it coming" I diffident I really thought it wasn't active. I actually had to pause and put down the controller when it appeared its the first time I ever needed to do that in a game.

Many will probably laugh, but for me it's Garrus' recruitment mission on Insanity difficulty. I'm always watching Garrus' vitality meter as though he'll just suddenly drop dead. Also, when you're running around sealing the doors in those tunnels, there's one spot where a vorcha pyro is standing right around a corner, waiting to torch you. Your allies can't aim their powers around a ninety degree corner, and for whatever reason flamethrowers stagger Shepard even if you have your shield up. If I let him get a hit at all, I'm pretty much guaranteed to have to reload my save.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who was freaked when the collectors boarded. It didn't really hit home how involved with the characters until I felt a rush of adrenaline when Kelly was screaming and being dragged into the elevator. That really wound me up, and my helplessness didn't help. That part made it personal for me, and i really wish there was a way we could play that part as shepard and the team and kick 7 shades of sh*t out of the collectors on our home grounds.

Let's see..

1. I think the first small bit of nerve rattling was Garrus's recruitment mission. For a bit I thought he could actually die or something.

2. The cutscene for going through the omega-4 relay. That whole thing. I mean I knew I had every possible upgrade. Yet, still, I felt fear, fear that something was going to happen. I was totally into that whole scene. I remember yelling, angry when Joker said "well it's a good thing you shields were upgraded" because I was still taking hits. I remember seeing Grunt react a little to the hit and realizing that people could die in this part. it was so badass though when we turn our guns on those damn collectors though. That upgrade was worth every bit. Just that whole flight through the debris field. I remember being glad Joker was there.

3. Tali's slide. To be honest, for some reason, I expected it on her Loyalty mission. So by the time we were doing the suicide mission i was doing everything I could to keep her out of danger. It's really unfair to her, but I couldn't take chances with Tali, and she wasnt' my love interest either. So when we finally kill the mini reaper, and she starts to slide..I was hoping and looking for a conversation interrupt to try and stop it. Then, when we fell and I thought I had lost both of them.(I took Miranda my LI and Tali).

3. The Long Walk. I chose Samara thinking she was best because her biotics where better then Miranda. However, when she started to waver I thought the husk had hit her so i re-loaded. When I got the husk first and she still did it I worried. I didn't really like Samara that much, but I wasn't about to let her or anyone die.

4. Saving the crew. I had read on the forums, sadly before the mission, that getting there right away is key. While I didn't do missions before I left (i was out of them) I did talk to everyone one last time. I thought that might have made me to late. I gave myself a pep talk before we left. Got everyone out alive, but it feels like it was as much luck as skill.

5. The vents. I choose Legion over Tali, though it was a hard choice. I had chosen Garrus to be team leader both times (made sense to me sense he lead a team on Omega). I got to the point where I was rushing into the no cover to hit those buttons, especially the last one. Then the cut scene with the door wide open. i was just waiting for someone to get hit.

6. I guess I should have just said the whole suicide mission. Anyways, the last part when they are running back to the ****, that whole part. Especially the part where they get to the **** and Joker comes out with a gun and fires back. I thought he might get shot, then I thought Shep wouldn't make the jump.

Having to deal with the fact that you cant recruit Morinth with a regular ME2 character.

Not being able to truly customize squad members ENTIRE load out which would include armor etc

In that moment when the collector ship jumps in on the Normandy to abduct the crew.

It looks so huge and deadly. The whole encounter screams 'this will end horribly'

Joker's level. Hands down and bar none, absolutely the most memorable in terms of tension and suspense.

Yeah, we can all look back at it now, play it a second or third time, and think, "Meh, this is too simple." But we all remember that nervous twitch that made us spin the camera all over the place while Joker hobbled through the Normandy.

The sudden shift from having a squad of three powerful characters to having to drag a glass-boned, unarmed pilot through a ship full of Collectors is one of the most brilliant part of this game's design.

Now, as far as combat and missions are concerned, the entire Suicide Mission is still the best and most enduringly enjoyable - as well as exciting.

Oh yeah. This bit was doubly terrifying for me because I didn't take the renegade interrupt with Cathka and as Garrus guttered out I was thinking: "No! See, this is what I get for doing the paragon thing! Garrus DIED!!!!"
If he had died, I'd never have taken another paragon decision all game long for fear...

I have 4 or 5 files to play, and I have not yet seen Garrus die.

So help me God, I do not want to see Garrus die.

My Jack Romance file, He got shot and got back up.

Garrus is like Shepard's best friend. If he dies, I have no faith in anything.

Most nerve wracking moment for me was N7: Javelin Missiles Launched. It was just like Bring Down the Sky except there was an actual time limit and the end decision actually made you think. The entire time I was rushing towards the end trying to stop the missiles, I died a few times and when I finally reached the end I thought that was it. I was wrong. Honestly that decision was probably the hardest I've had to make in a game.

A close second was the Collector ship. That entire first part before you find out it's a trap reminded me of the movie Aliens. I kept walking forward and looking up around and behind me expecting the Collectors to pop out any moment. By the time I finally got to the fight I was happy as could be, I couldn't take anymore of the eerie silence.

- Horizon: Hey, that girl with Kaidan has my hair. Is he dating... wait, did that Collector swarm just eat my lover? Okay, I've had Collectors and scions. Now what? What the frak is THAT?!

- Garrus loyalty mission as a paragon Shepard with a paragon Garrus: Do I let him take the shot? (much pacing about the room, pulling my hair out, biting my nails, with -that- music pumping away, as Shepard stares blankly at Sidonis)

- Samara loyalty mission: Did you just say no weapons?

- The Collector ship: Okay, EDI, I'll just dash for that door and... ah, frak, a praetorian!

- Tali recruitment mission: Right. A collossus. With a shotgun.

- Grunt loyalty mission: Right. A theasher maw. With a shotgun.

- Collector attack: Joker, run faster, dammit! If EDI is Ms. HAL 9000 I'm going to poke TIM in the eye. With a machete.

- The suicide mission: If I've properly upgraded my ship, what's that fraking oculus doing in my cargo hold? I have to charge through how many Collectors to get to those switches? Frak, sions! Did Garrus just get shot in the chest? Dammit, close that fraking door NOW! Uh oh, Samara is about to faint... Right. A Human-Reaper. With a shotgun. Grab my hand, you fool! Did my squad just get squished? I'll never make that jump! TIM, that's the last time I'm doing anything for you, ever again!

Scanning for resources, I'm like «C'MON C'MON! WHEN WILL IT END!», it's quite nerve-wracking.

Oh and, yeah, the Normandy crew abduction.

I just realised what I posted wasnt the most nerve wracking for me, but its very much so related. I chose Thane to go through the vents, deep down I knew it was the wrong choice, but I simply could not pick her, Reasoning was that he's an assasin, and can cope with shafts like a trooper, and deal with any situation that arises, still the wrong choice tho.

With this guilt wracking me, he started to speak.... Thanes voice actor is so so good in this part, Thanes normal quiet and collected voiec has a very subtle, yet obvious hint of panic.

That really got me, so I just rushed to the valves, ignoring most enemies and somehow made it (on hardcore).

Second, the ending, indeed. It was tense AND rewarding. Some of them upgrades for the Normandy really paid off... Felt good to see I had made the right choice. And choosing which squad member would do what at the end. I weighed up them folks very carefully.

oh yes, I was horrified at the sight of Garrus lying there facedown in a pool of his own blood, I knew he'd survive but it was still scary

then when Jacob said Garrrus would be okay I sorta thought "oh he'll probably walk in any second looking fine"-and that was the major shock. that's when the whole "darker second act" thing sunk in for me, not when I became a cyborg who has to work with these incredibly shady people, not when I realised the council no longer believed in any threats, but when my best friend from the first game walked in, divots still blown out of his armour and half his face permanently mangled and held together with cybernetics (although it makes him look indubitably more badass)

Then there's the Joker segment, which is pretty freaky but I figured it was designed so that nothing would actually get Joker-just a cool thing to give the player control for-I discovered I was incorrect when got to the engineering deck and then went up the stairs before the door closed behind the collectors, I was promptly treated to a cutscene of Joker being pounced on  by a scion and realised how much danger I'd been in the whole time, thus I was much more careful upon reload to wait til the door closed:P
