Faxanadu.

I had to look it up. Interesting game!

It was one hell of a challenge :) NES really was the golden era for consoles.

OMG Faxanadu!

That game rocked. I think I may still have the piece of paper I wrote all my save codes on somewhere...

Those damn passwords :D

Might and Magic; World of Xeen.

If I recall correctly. I might've been Ultima 7 though.

I could be wrong, but I think it was Quest for the Rings -

but that was a friend's system.

Otherwise, Adventure on the Atari 2600 I think I played - I think. I don't remember owning it. First one that comes close to being an RPG that I owned (well, my older brother) would be Swordquest - we had Earth and Fireworld. Nice comics with those games.

What I would call an RPG, however, the first would probably be either Phantasie or Bard's Tale. Maybe Ultima IV. I'm not sure which was first for me to play.

Bard's Tale. Greatest RPG ever! I even figured out how to mod the players so they all had full tier magic and a Spectre Snare!

Been trying to think for a while what my first RPG was... Still none the wiser. The earliest I recall would possibly be Doomdark's Revenge - though thats more a war-game.

Failing that, three that vaguely stick out in my mind, though I'm sure they weren't the first - just the earliest I recall, are Heroquest, Might & Magic 2 and Ultima IV.

On the "computer": The Hobbit (ZX Spectrum).

Pen & paper: Traveller (1977 by Game Designers' Workshop - best RPG ever).

In PnP, it was the original D&D in the Winter of '75.

In CRPG, I started later than some. My first owned copy was the Gold Box D&D: Secret of the Silver Blades. I played for nearly 11 hrs before I realized it; started shaking at the thought.

yes D&D still rocks the world lol hell im only 19 and i still sit down and playin at times classic rules to with a thaco rather then the new sets of rules lol

Geez, I feel like such a newbie.  My first RPG was the first KOTOR.  I married my husband around the time that it came out and he got me interested in rpg games. I was a gaming virgin until KOTOR. Image IPB

I'd played games since I was young (my brother had a C64 and we had a BCC computer), but most of the games were either arcade or text based.

The first RPG that hooked me was Zelda: The Ocarina of Time. I loved that game and played it so very much. Previously, I'd mostly played platform and adventure games, both of which I loved, but Zelda opened my eyes to what could be. I've played a lot of Spyro!

I didn't really adore RPGs on the PC until Morrowind. It remains my favourite Elder Scrolls Game, and I was pretty disappointed with Oblivion. My first Bioware game was Neverwinter Nights, which was brilliant. Then I got stuck into KOTOR and the sequel.

I've celebrated enough anniversaries of my 29th birthday to remember playing Haunted House on my dad's Magnavox Odyssey. I loved it. We played a lot of Atari games. We had 'Adventure' and 'Raiders of the Lost Ark', which might qualify for 'first RPG', though that would be a loose interpretation. Then I want to college, and doctor school and played table-top RPGs. AD&D Oriental Adventures was the first of many dungeon crawls. I didn't have the money for a computer or console for years, so videogaming was out until funds finally allowed. Then my hubby got me the PC version of Kotor for my birthday about 5 years back. I was hooked back into videogaming after that. That was my first PC RPG, and my favorite to date.

Not flipping through the, currently, 21 pages of flashbacks ya'll are giving me here.  But I have to answer this since I don't think anyone put this one out.

First RPG would have to be a game called "Tunnels of Doom" for the Texas Instruments home computer.  For us old timers, yes, the one with a tape drive.  Don't even know if you'd call it a PC, but I guess you could.

Then moved on to Bard's Tale (all 3), Wasteland, and Sentinel Worlds on the C64/128.

First PnP RPG would have to be Star Frontiers back in the early 80's.

Then moved on to alot of other RPGs too numerous to mention.

Ah, the memories...    Image IPB

I had a TI99 4A.  Technically "PC's" can mean Personal Computers, which would be Apples, Commodores, Tandy's, etc. - but the common usage nowadays is that PC means IBM compatible (or, even moreso, Microsoft OS running system) and an Apple is NOT a PC (at least if you'd believe MS and Apple ads.)

So yes and no.

I don't think I had Tunnels of Doom.  I had a cowboy game and a skiing game - man, I can't remember the name of those catridges.  That computer must be in my mom's house somewhere...
