Inherit The Earth: Quest for the Orb, published by (surprise surprise) Lucasarts. It was more of a linear interactive story than an RPG, where you played a talking fox and his companions on a quest to, well, get back a stolen orb. It might seem kiddish and limiting for some, but the world of the anthromorphs was really fascinating. Too bad they never made a sequel or brought it forward to this day and age: I think the results would be amazing.

That was an awesome game! No really an RPG though, that was pure Adventure.

Also people have been mentioning games like King's Quest and Quest for Glory that are Adventure games. Well QFG is a hybrid I suppose since you have skills to raise. They are definitely awesome though.

So by that definition my first RPG was Shadowgate for the NES. But that was an Adventure game.
For pure RPG......I think one of the Might and Magic games for the PC, Clouds of Xeen. Or maybe Shining Force 2 for the Sega Genesis? I don't think I had any NES pure RPGS.

Kotor, I think. In, about 2004.

late to the show but glad you arrived!!

I think if I'd stayed on an action and driving game diet for the last few years, I'd be needing therapy by now.

Burnout series of driving games wasnt so bad - Need for Speed though is nothing like it was back in the old days.  And I just cant do action, which is bad because I hear good things about the new Batman game.

Im glad there has been a small resurgence in Adventure gaming - go Monkey Island go!

I'm not sure. It could be Eye of the beholder or Champions of Krynn

NfS Underground was the last one I enjoyed. I don't think I tried a racing game since. Although Dirt 2 is awfully tempting..

Speaking of adventure games, I never finshed Beneath a Steel Sky. I need to remedy that.

Hmm... We were poor, so I never had any of these newfangled games until I was older. Zelda on SNES probably.

I played PnP games before then though.

First MMO was U:O though, definitely. I was there on day one, launch day. Now THAT was an experience. It was like the wild west. lol.

It's kinda funny how I played my first rpg; I always played Everquest on the PC and my little sister was too young for it, so to compensate my mom went to Wal-Mart and picked up a game. Don't know if it was a random pick or not but when she brought it home my sister enjoyed it but I was magnetized to it. The game was Final Fantasy 8 and my life has never been the same since <3

Zelda on the NES, if that counts as an RPG. If not, I also remember playing Secret of Mana and BG1 a long time ago. ^_^

I think it was "Eye of the Beholder" although it might have been "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" - it was a while ago. :D

Earliest RPG? Well, if we're not talking adventure/dungeon crawler/side-scroller type stuff, I think it was Pokemon Red. I could be wrong.

First BioWare game? KotOR.

I would consider my first ever RPG to be Baldur's Gate I - unless the Legend of Zelda counts (as above).

Baldur's Gate in the way of computer games, though I think I finished playing through Icewind Dale II first. That was about eight years ago now, I think.

I haven't the slightest clue. I think the first 'western RPG' I played was Morrowind which I never really played much more than a few hours. I had been playing 'JRPGs' from a very young age until that point.

It's hard for me to say, because I've gone back and played most of the old pc, c64, and amiga RPG's that I missed the first time around, so while I've played the originals, they weren't my first. My first was probably Rogue.Image IPB
