hmm for me it was I think Zelda(if it counts) on my n64. Or pokemon, hehe, I was still in 6th grade back then. I didn't REALLY get into rpg's until I randomly stumbled on to Baldur's Gate 1 when I was about 12 or 13. Also, Ultima Online.

First edition D&D in middle school. For some reason I remember we had this weird tactic of throwing chickens in a room before entering, the idea being if we heard a scuffle we knew there was a monster inside. Nobody stopped to imagine what a group of adventurers carrying a bunch of chickens would look (or sound) like.

This is the greatest tactic I've ever heard:lol:

my first CRPG was Diablo; my first REAL CRPG was Baldur's Gate II, it was the game that hooked me on RPGs

edit: stupid spelling errors

Oh we did this too, but it wasn't chickens, it was a bag of ferrets... or something like that. Anyways it was a bag that had a limitless supply of small furry animals. We just recently tossed a bunny into a pit that repeats itself, and it hit the other side of the pit with a resounding crack due to hitting terminal velocity.

^The Bag of Tricks?

My brother once played a strong character who'd throw whatever we'd just defeated into the next room to see if it'd spring any traps.

... anyone remember the times when RPGs were played alonside actual people and you had these things called dice and DM's??  Image IPB

Yikes, now I'm really showing my age.Image IPB

As for CRPGs, my first one was Diablo, way back in the day.  We've come a LONG way over the years and I love where we are and where we are headed from a technology perspective.

Thank you Bioware!

Edit:  yeah, I posted after reading the first few pages and missed the elder statemen Image IPB commenting on AD&D.  Here's a shout out to tossing chickens into a room!  Priceless.

If you don't count Diablo 2 as an RPG, it was Baldur's Gate 2. So good.

For P&P, it was Vampire: The Masquerade.

Final Fantasy on the NES, first PC RPG was Might and Magic VI amd then Planescape: Torment. Planescape is still a fun game. I replayed it about a year ago and the ancient graphics didn't bother me a bit. I wish someone would make a sequal to that game; I loved the world.

My first RPG was Dragon Warrior on the NES. It was 1989 and I was six-years-old and had barely learned how to read well enough to play and understand it. In fact, I would say that it accelerated my reading skills by truly making reading fun.

My first RPG was also Dragon Warrior on the NES, my mom had ordered me a subscription to nintendo power when they did the promotion giving away a free copy of DW

It's still my favourite series but I play games of all shapes and sizes

I think I played Betrayal at Krondor, but I don't remember a thing about it. First real crpg was Baldurs Gate and then Planescape. I still love that game. Go Dakkon!

I'm going with Zork. And various other text-based games. First RPG with graphics I recall playing was Ultima 2 (I think...it might have been 4....it's been a long time...25 years or so. :D)

My brother and sister both played D&D when I was a kid, but I was too young to hang out with them and their friends (they're 5 & 7 years older than me) so I never got to play until I was older (I started out with 2E :crying: )

My first role-playing game was final fantasy 2 I think. (Which is actually final fantasy 4 or something like that?) I didn't actually play baulder's gate 2 tell several years after that. After playing it though Jrpg's just seemed less awesome to me.

To this day I wonder "Why aren't more people making rpg's like this?"
