SPOILER

I was always interseted in Jowan, since hes inherently a good guy whose found himself in a terrible situation that labels him as evil dangerous being, this scenario presents potential for a cool compainon, to me. Since its a character that sparks fascintion. You want to know more about this character, since it seems hes so conflicted with what he is, and what hes done in the game. I really thought he was a usuable character in the game. Since you have the choice to spare him (like Zevran), and the dialog suggest you can use him. But lol darn it turns out you cant. I was looking for the opinon to ask Eamon, if he could release him in my custody, since wardens have the power to do that. I was leaning on this idea, since you can use him in the fade, and pay him and see what a blood mage is like, which was really cool. Anyway if you spared him in the last game, do you he could be a companion?

I definately think he should be a playable character. I also think that it is disapointing that no matter what you say to Arl Eamon after you revive him, he always ends up locked away ( even when I have max cohersion ) He asks my opinion on what to do with him and then bangs him up anyway even if I say he needs to be released, I hate people who ask your advice and then ignore it, what's the point of asking someones advice if you have already made your mind up ?

He was originally recruitable by using the rite of conscription to recruit him. Got the dev post linked in my group...

If anything, there are too many fighters in the game, you have Alistair, Sten, Oghren. Shale and the Dog can do little else but hand to hand brawling so they are essentialy fighters/tanks, you only get 2 mages as followers, Morrigan and Wynne and they are polar oposites in the approval ratings so its difficult to have them both together at the same time.

I always thought it'd be cool if we got to witness (or read about it in codexes) the hunting of Jowan by perhaps Cullen (who we know REALLY hates mages). I think it could make for an interesting story, hopefully some day in an expansion or somesuch we will be allowed to try to fight for the liberation of mages from the yoke of the Chantry and I'd suspect Jowan would be in on something like that (or perhaps we can fight FOR the Chantry against the mages). The tension between the two groups is clearly high and we witness it pretty early on in Origins, would be cool if the PC could play more of a role in the conflict (outside of the Circle that is).

This has been already clarify by Bioware / Gaider : Jowan was planned in the game but because of short money they had to cut him from the companions and just make some apperace.

I really would hate for Jowan to ever be playable. In my games he either dies (if I'm playing a mage) or gets sent to the Circle (if I'm playing a fighter or rogue). He's whining and ineffective. His spell selection truly sucks. He may have good intentions, but he is the in-game proof of where those lead. In D&D terms, he's chaotic stupid.

True for Origins, but in Awakenings, we've now had 2 Mage companions revealed. As we're supposed to only have 6 companion choices in DA:A, having 3 of them be Mages would be sort of unappealing (imo, at least).

I think Jowan would have had serious potential as a recruitable character in your party. I'm a blood mage myself, and I know I'm 110% valuable to my party. Having two blood mages would make the blight turn tail and run screaming for the hills, especially after I specced Jowan to his full potential. I always liked Jowan anyway. He was never a bad guy, just someone who was screwed by circumstances. I would love if there was an expansion in the future that allowed you to rile against the chantry to free the mages from imprisonment and subjugation. It would be especially satisfying to get to kill Gregoir and/or Cullen...  Posted Image

I 100% agree. As long as they change Jowan's annoying voice and give him a slightly bigger pair of balls, I think he could make for a great companion. But then agian, so can many other great NPC's throughout Origins.

You do know if you tell jowan to leave and that u never want to see him again in the dungeon you will see him again as a random encounter, he's solo defending some refugees against darkspawn and you can help him or let him die. He'll kill a decent ammount before going down.

If you don't like him, don't recruit him. You don't have to 'collect'em all', after all. (Well, apart from the achievement, but that's easy enough to get and then reload...)

Since we already have two mages out of six companions in Awakening, though, I doubt he'll show up there.

OMG thats why i wanted him on the team in the first place :o, cause he is one XD. thats what makes him so cool. Unless you're a mage, its probably most unlikely you'll learn blood magic, I was hoping to recurit him so my characters can learn. Plus I think its cool to have a malifcur:devil: as a team mate. How bad-a is that.

It's even more "bad-a" if you're one yourself.

I put up with Morrigan. I'd just as soon that any additional mages not get on my nerves. Besides, it looks as though we're getting Jowan 2.0 judging from the trailer. With any luck, his spell selection will actually make sense.

Yeah excatly, this characters attuide/and his powerful magic, really balances out this character, a character who isn't a total jerk with his powers, but at the same time can be really dangerous if he wanted to be. Like a whip who can back up his word, I like how unexpected this character can be. If you don't kill him, I felt his role was uncomplete. Like you were expecting to see him again. Seems like a waste of a powerful character, whose sitution/being gave him uncanny depth. And in a sense, hes a good guy, and who doesn't like routing for the good guy, hoping it turns out well for him

A personal vendetta I see, is this about Jowan, or about me, why don't you just let it go and move on. Me and Gaider has. If this is what its really about, you're reading more than what it was, into this
