It's even more "bad-a" if you're one yourself.

Eh yeah but if you're a warrior, I would like a bad-a blood mage right next to me

A personal vendetta I see, is this about Jowan, or about me, why don't you just let it go and move on. Me and Gaider has. If this is what its really about, you're reading more than what it was, into this

Gaider and I.  Have.

I found you under lining this to be pretty pointless, who cares, sad to see not everyone is mature around here. But whatever I'm saying about  you is probably an understatement.

One of my most memorable moments was when I went into the Fade as Jowan. His spell selection was bad but it was fun nonetheless. He was a whiner though and fairly annoying. Though he seems to have turned over a new leaf as a blood mage which makes him interesting.

Jowan could plausibly show up in a later expansion, as long as you didn't knife him in the gut. He could have escaped while awaiting execution, or escaped from the Circle, or evaded templars if you let him go.

Jowan is a walking disaster. He screws up everything he touches, and quite badly I might add. I really don't want to see him as a companion, however, I wouldn't mind seeing him as an NPC. It might be fun cleaning up yet another mess he created.

I certainly hope not, what a waste of a perfectly good NPC slot!

Jowan is one of the few NPCs I truely despise, whiny useless git. I wish there was a way you could tell Irving to go cram it with wallnuts and report Jowan to the templars right from the start, or at least stick a knife in his gut yourself during the origin story.

I think Jowan would have had serious potential as a recruitable character in your party. I'm a blood mage myself, and I know I'm 110% valuable to my party. Having two blood mages would make the blight turn tail and run screaming for the hills, especially after I specced Jowan to his full potential. I always liked Jowan anyway. He was never a bad guy, just someone who was screwed by circumstances. I would love if there was an expansion in the future that allowed you to rile against the chantry to free the mages from imprisonment and subjugation. It would be especially satisfying to get to kill Gregoir and/or Cullen...  Posted Image

Yeah excatly, this characters attuide/and his powerful magic, really balances out this character, a character who isn't a total jerk with his powers, but at the same time can be really dangerous if he wanted to be. Like a whip who can back up his word, I like how unexpected this character can be. If you don't kill him, I felt his role was uncomplete. Like you were expecting to see him again. Seems like a waste of a powerful character, whose sitution/being gave him uncanny depth. And in a sense, hes a good guy, and who doesn't like routing for the good guy, hoping it turns out well for him

Same here.

A lot of people complain that he's whiny, but strangely enough, those same people seem to like Alistair, the undisputed king of whine. (Seriously, if I had a dime for every time he teared up about Duncan... oh well, I like Alistair anyway.)  At least Jowan had the courage to stand up and defy the powers that be for what he wanted. The first terrible thing he did he did to protect the woman he loved, and to tell you the truth, I didn't blame him. I wish it had been an option to help him knock Gregoir and his templar subordinates on their tin-plated hineys. And when the crap hit the fan at Arl Eoman's place he was ready to stand tall and make things right, despite having just been tortured and knowing what the guards and the Circle might do to him. Whiny or not, that takes balls. On my second play-through I made him leave the castle, though. I didn't want him turned in to the Circle to be killed or made tranquil.

Of all the other NPCs I've met in my travels, Jowan had the most potential to be a bad-ass party member. And I wouldn't have to put up with Morrigan's obnoxious attitude or Granny-do-good's (aka Wynne) preachy judgemental ways in order to have mages in my party. (Don't get me wrong, I like Morrigan. Wynne, not so much.) I hope there's an option to have him as a party member in the future.

Or better yet, recruit him as a Warden. Now THAT would be seriously cool. Posted Image

lol I didn't want to be mean towards Alistair, but you are so right on lol XD. lol Alistair to me, is like the whinest character I've ever seen, who crys, well.... alot, its alittle comeical to me, since hes a grey warden...... not excatly bad ass, and tts hard to take him seriously sometimes, hes the joker of the party. But well hes ok. He does have a sense of humor, so its fun to have him around, I'll give him that. And omg it would, especially if he messes up again, it be a cool story/ ironic to have him as a grey warden to make up for that mistake. Like in the end of the game, if you choose that secret person to be your party member. Plus I never got the impression he was whinny, just sad, and conflicted. Plus you're right, even though he posses supposed evil magic, what he did in the castle, willing to make up for his mistake, weather it would end his own life. That guy is govern by some strong morals, even if it kills him. Thats why I would find him interesting as a teammate. He seems he could be a strong loyal companion, if he wanted to be.

I really liked Jowan as a character, would be neat if he was developed as a full party member in awakening.

i would as well, i mean, he is a well thought out character with a solid backstory.

and as naive and foolish as he was, he did try to make things right, and he stood up for what he believed in, even if it meant fighting a army of mage killing tanks.

Well, let's put it this way. One of the main reasons why people think Leliana won't be back is it's easy to kill her off. But Jowan ends up dead even more often. So *if* he comes back, that pretty much nukes the argument against Leliana returning from orbit.

Well as much as I often felt sorry for Jowan I'd never in a million years let him on the Warden's team (I mean no matter what he does, he messes everything up royally) just imagine what would happen to your party, he'd probably get you all killed the first time out with some wrongly performed blood magic ritual or something, or find some way to hand us to our enemies on a platter while trying the exact opposite :-)

I would love to have Jowan as a companion; he is an interesting character and would be a great asset combat wise. However I don't think we'll see him in Awakening since we already have two mages but maybe the next game/expansion.

"Great asset combat wise?":pinched:

Have you tried using him in the Fade? Oh dear...he's a debacle...his combat abilities match his ability to speak without whining.

thats unfair, his combat choices weren't really chosen well to begin with. When you really develop a blood mage, they can be really useful, like a battery, they keep on going. Give a chance to max out blood skills, and they can do alot damage/heal a party. Spirtual Healer/ Blood Mage. Giving extra umpf with some blood use:devil:

Jowan is a great character; He has depth and would give you a wider choice of mages ( I go for the duo healer combo to support 1 tank and 1 DD). Morrigan was a tetchy cow and Wynne just plain annyoing with her sermonising platitudes. Jowan represents a promotion from the both of em. An interesting backstory/subplot could also be sprung with his attempts to find and win back Lily. Cool stuff.

He was originally recruitable by using the rite of conscription to recruit him. Got the dev post linked in my group...

Indeed I had heard something to that effect..that he was originally meant to be recruitable ..but he was cut.   As to why ..I have no idea.

Yeah he was pretty much useless...I gave up after the first time.  Too bad we couldn't have spent some time with him,  speccing him so that he actually was of some help in the Fade.

Poor Jowan, all his decisions were bad ones...still wish there would have been a way to save him.
